This year is going by so fast.... I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that race #5 & #6 are both scheduled for this week and I will be right at the hump of 13 in 2013! I gave myself an entire year to accomplish this feat and I think I can beat it by the end of June.
I am learning that I need a purpose for running. While I love the feelings associated with a good run, as well as the health benefits, I still struggle with running just for the sake of running. For whatever reason, I can only run if I feel I am running for a purpose and I have yet to really embrace running just for my health as a purpose.
Training runs for my 1/2 marathon were on purpose, hosting this C25K cohort is on purpose, and I plan to begin training for my upcoming 1/2 on purpose. Having said that,
I found a 1/2 marathon training plan as I scanned in a runners magazine I grabbed at my local running store. The plan features tailored runs in the foundational phase (weeks 1-5), the specific phase (weeks 6-10) and the taper phase (the last 10 days). Jeff Gaudette breaks down the importance of each phase, clarifies the necessity for various running workouts that are deemed essential for the physiological demands of a 1/2... he even goes in to the chemistry involved (I love that!). UPCOMING PURPOSE FOR RUNNING
My June 1/2 marathon occurs 9 weeks after my C25Ker's graduate, and this 12 week training program will have me covering 1/2 marathon distance at the end of weeks 7, 9, and 13.
Races #5 & #6 of 13 in 2013... coming right up! I will continue running the race set before me.
