As the colder weather approaches, be sure to wear layers for outdoor runs. Clearance sections are great places to start. Old Navy has pretty good capris & workout pants. Eastbay usually has a sale on compression pants/tights... I've purchased the men's pants because they run longer and I am fairly tall.

I went to the Goodwill store in my area and found lots of really nice, barely used fitness gear (jackets & pants) for $4.99 & $3.99. I mean, think about it, anyone who is running for weight loss will not retain the same clothing for long because their body is changing. Their weight loss became my inexpensive gain with respect to workout clothing. As I continue to lose weight, I will return the favor and donate my outsized, yet well-maintained, clothes to Goodwill. Pay it forward....

I know everyone has their apps, but here's another one Endomondo for tracking speed, distance and time as well as history of your runs or walks.
Another must have for myself is a Polar Fitness Heart Rate Monitor...it calculates heart rate and calories as a secondary measurement.
As for clothes just as Restore_Me says I would recommend the BGR clothing to represent and inspire others which in turn continues to inspire you if you can fit the sizes.
And I agree with the compression wear, strong, well-fitting bra, and light fabric for hot weather, but since fall and winter is approaching keep that in mind as well when buying workout wear for outside.

My recommendations for fitness gear:

1. Anything that says moisture wicking, dry fit, performancewear, or similar items. The less cotton, the better.
2. Running shoes fitted specifically for you in a specialty running store.
3. I prefer using the Jeff Galloway method (run/walk intervals). It is the only thing that got me through 4 half marathons last season and training for full marathons this season. I run two minutes, walk one minute, conserving my energy through the end.

Finished: Walt Disney World Marathon, January 13, 2013.

I agree on a good bra!! I have a small back and let me tell you, it was WORK trying to find a 32F!! Praise the Lord with this weight loss the cup size has decreased DRAMATICALLY, I actually bought 2 bras off the rack yesterday for the 1st time!!!

I would also recommend Zombies!Run App, Ease into 5k, Bridge to 10K apps for smartphones.

For those that like cardio and strength training combined I'd recommend The Firm 500 Calorie Workout-Kelsie is the leader and she's a strong sister!! It's a 64 minute workout that really gets the job done. You might even be able to find it at your local library(free is always nice)

I'd also recommend kettlebell training, very good for the core, lots of good home videos, I use Bob Harper Kettlebell workout.

Ok, last one I promise...I can actually recommend "The Brazil Butt Lift" workout....I have to say...it DOES the job!! LOL

It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning, great is thy faithfulness

If apps count as fitness gear, I highly recommend "Run Keeper" or any app that will help you track your distance through the support of GPS. If you can use GPS through your phone, you can use a GPS enabled app. Happy trails!

As for bottoms, East Bay compression pants are my standbys... they keep the jogging jiggle at bay. I am ample bottomed. Before investing in compresson pants, when I ran I kept looking back for the lil Fighting Irish leprachaun mascot from Notre Dame.... I just knew he was jogging behind me using my cheeks as a speed bag! LOL! Either he was training for an upcoming match or he was beating my butt (literally) back into shape. emoticon

Now, I can honestly he stopped beating my butt (ahem) training with me.

I also heard that New Balance capris/ running tights are well cut for women with curves.

I strongly recommend Enell (www.enell) sports bras for anyone who is well-endowed. I have a small back, but an ample endowment (38H) and running was a nightmare until I invested in an Enell sports bra.
