I have a bad knee as well. There are a number of chair workouts you can find online that may be helpful. Also you can get these little bike-type thingies that you can pedal with your arms, to get that heart rate up, and many gyms have bikes that can be pedaled in that way as well.

I too "didn't do bathing suits anymore" but was desperate for some exercise with my heart condition slowing me down so much. I found at our Y that although there are some real bathing beauties, 90% of the people there have far from perfect forms. Some actually come in in shorts and a T-shirt. Don't let that hold you back!

Thanks for the suggestions...I don't do bathing suits anymore & I don't have a private pool...I will see if I can do anyof those exercises for the knee. The pain is pretty bad right now...

Meezermom - I do Aquafit exercises and there are often people in the pool with knee issues - pre and post surgery or injured - and they do low impact exercises with the water providing resistance. You can do a combination of cardio and strength exercises. At our YMCA there are several classes a day, each with a different intensity and formula. You might want to look into something in your area.

Any movement in the water would work.
Also, don't overestimate the power of exercise to maintain weight. 80% of success is still eating a healthy diet, in particular avoiding processed foods and keeping your carbs reasonable (under 100 grams/day) because as they go up our body will increase insulin which will increase fat storage and inhibit fat burning.

You might give Sit and Be Fit a try. It's on PBS, usually in the early afternoons here. There's a little on YouTube. It's a gentle but thorough workout. They do have DVDs.

As all of you know,exercise is an important part in heart health. My problem is that I have a bad knee, right now, so for the past few weeks, have not been able to work out for my cardio. I am going to chiro, but so far it has not done the job. What could i do for physical activity that doesn't affect my knee & keep me from becoming a couch potato & gaining back all I have lost? So frustrating..
