Welcome Radiant888,
Spark People is a great site and the trackers are invaluable. I too lost weight at WW but gained it all back when the WW group was no longer around. With Spark People I can check in everyday, get lots of tools and support and learn to do things on my own. I really believe I can lose the weight again and keep it off this time with what I am learning here.

I wish you the very best as you Spark along with us.

I've lost 2 1/2 stone so far on WW but WW is a little limited when it comes to nutrition. I want to be able to track my intake of salt (to minimise it) and calcium (to maximise it). I've just switched to being a vegetarian so I want to keep a closer eye on things & make sure I'm balancing my proteins properly - it's very new for me. My emphasis is changing from just losing weight to gaining health - and Spark People seems a wonderful tool to support that.

I saw it on a review on Amazon for the cookbook - so I tripped over Spark People by accident really.

♥ღ♥ღ♥ღ I'm finally getting to know my body and giving it what it needs – everything is looking and feeling so much better and I love it ღ♥ღ♥ღ♥

Hi

I joined back in 2008 right after blood clots had caused a stroke at age 47 (from a-fib) but didn't keep it up and put all the weight back on.

In 2002, I had a mild heart attack while on the phone with my doctor, believe it or not. She made me go to the ER or I'd have totally missed it. I was out of town and had called for refills on my meds and was in panic mode because my house had just been robbed of everything I owned. The stress caused the heart attack. My BP was sky high.

Over the ensuing years, I've developed multiple health issues, but joined SP again in Sept because I wanted to get healthier.vi wanted to get healthier and lose weight. About three weeks in, after walking nightly, vand eating healthy, I noticed that even with walking and using my 02 and walker, I was getting very short of breath walking all of a sudden, and though clothes were fitting better, and losing inches, I was gaining a ton of weight.

Low and behold, went to the doctor and found that I'm now in congestive heart failure and my blood pressure is uncontrollable. It was 207/110 at the doctors, and with the meds they gave me in the office, it went up, not down.

Needless to say, I'm on a ton of new meds, including Lasix and 2 new BP meds as well as potassium.

Im still walking. I missed one day due to sheer exhaustion, but finally got my 5k last night, even if it was on the darn treadmill instead of the road. I'm afraid of the shortness of breath now, and dont want to be far from home, but I walked 3.77 miles at a mace of 23 minutes a mile.vi just can't walk faster now, too hard to breathe.

Still fighting the high BP and shortness of breath, but all of a sudden, the weight is literally falling off. I seem to have no appetite, so am forcing myself to eat. No idea if the meds are causing the lack of appetite.

I hurt my back somehow, so can barely move without my walker, but not walking makes it worse. Not sure if I should ease off or walk it off.

Oh well. We will see.

I will be thinner and healthier if it kills me. We don't say diet in our house-ever. Diets fail!

emoticon This is how I feel most days, ready to eat. I am not hungry but my mind is always on food. I would go for a walk or do something but I am waiting to see my cardiologist first to make sure what I can and cannot do. I have been really watching what I eat and how much and just couldn't wait until Sat. to check my weight and so I weighed myself this morning and I had lost half a pound since last Saturday. That didn't start my day off very well. Then my husband got started in on how tired he is and how much he worked over in our daughters yard this morning so he can go mow, that made me angry because you would think he was the one who just got out of the hospital plus I have told him so many times stop doing that and make her and her family do it since you are doing all the mowing. I am working so hard to keep stress out of my life and I let him add more to it. I made as decision today that when I start my cardio rehab and start working out nothing is going to stop what I have to do. If my parents need a ride somewhere I will have to make it on a day when I don't have anything planned, or my husband will have to take them. It is time for me to come first.
I want to say thank you for the nice message from 4kwalk the other day.
Hoping for a better day tomorrow.
Have a great day
Pat

Hi Pat, and all others on the Healthy Hearts team,

A heart attack in Sept. 2011 landed me in a hospital then all the visits back and forth with surgery in March 2012 really opened my eyes to the fact that I am the only one who can better my health. I started here onSpark People on March 23, 2012 and I am learning to become healthier each and every day.

Pat, I wish you the very best as you learn to live healthier too. It sounds like you have three wonderful people who will support and encourage you at home. There are many more people here on Spark People who will also support and encourage you.

Please keep us posted so we can cheer you on and encourage you along the way.
All the very best to you.

I joined because I have only been home from the hospital 4 days. I went in early morning on Monday Sept 17 with chest pains. They found I was having a heart attack and transferred me to a hospital where they could do a catherization where they found a blocked artery on the right side of my heart and put a stent in. I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me because I brought this all on myself as I had the same thing happen three years ago when I had my hip replaced and was having trouble breathing and they had to put two stents in on the left side of my heart. I figured the doctors took care of it and I was fine and I can go on with my life. Well, I went on with my life and did I ever get a wake up call. When I was in the hospital, I looked down and saw my husband standing at the foot of my bed and he was saying, "I don't know what I would do if I lost you.", and it made me really take a look at my life. That evening he came in with my parents and it hit me really hard then. Here was my 85 yr. old dad, my 83 yr. old mother and my husband and I could see it in my parents eyes we don't want to bury our daughter, we want her to bury us. Good Bless you mom and dad, and Tom my husband I knew God meant for us to be together.
So here I am for more support and motivation. Bless you all for all you have done for yourselves and I am with everyone of you too.
Have a great day
Pat

I joined for a few reasons. I need motivation and non family support. Don't get me wrong my family support is good but sometimes their lives get in the way of mine and I get side tracked. My mom died from heart problems and i just found out that both my sister and brother just had attacks within the last 2 years. I decided that I need to make some healthy heart changes so here I am. This is step 2, Step one was was seeing my doctor

I had a stroke on Feburary 4, 2009, I was told that I needed to change my diet and exercise or I would be back in with another stroke. I found Sparkpeople in August 2009.

I knew that my life was in danger, I knew that all the other weight loss regimines did not work, I knew that SP may or may not work, but why not give it a try?

I did and I thank God that I did.

My thanks to everyone out there who are my motivation.

I joined the first time, because I loved the fact that everyone else was kind of like me...needing to lose weight, maintain weight, or get more fit. I quit after a year..due to spending way too much time on the computer writing about my weight instead of getting off my behind and doing something about it. When I joined again, it was with a new perspective. I go online in the morning...then again later in the day. I am spending more time being active.

I guess my main motivation was the camaraderie that we all have.

If we saw all the difference even the tiniest of our prayers make, and all the people those...prayers were destined to affect...we would be so paralyzed with awe...that we would be unable to get up off our knees for the rest of our lives.

As I visit team members Spark Pages, and since I am a grandmom myself, I realized that many of our members joined SP because they want to live healthy to be around a long time for their grandkids.

That's certainly one good reason......but that makes me think ( with thousands & thousands of members) that there must be at least 1,000 or 2,000 different reasons why we all joined Spark.

Won't you share with us what motivated you to join Spark?

Knowing that others share our struggles, our life & health issues, our concerns & fears makes us feel less alone in our journey.
