Oh I remember that. We were still doing that in the 60's here. It was quite a while before they changed it. I also remember 10 cents for a train ride to downtown, now it is over $6. one way! Do you remember

Do you remember black and white t.v. only with rabbit ears and the test pattern. We use to sit and watch the test pattern. Tin foil on the rabbit ears for better reception.

During the war, we got a "sack" of white oleo with an orange button in the middle. You squeezed the button, then the oleo until it was all evenly yellow. Anyone remember that?

No --- they were before my time!

However, our youngest daugther had a pink one with a black poodle for a grade school play.

Do you remember mail delivery twice a day --- morning & afternoon?

I do --- however, that was when I was a kid, living overseas --- on a military installation, so I am not sure if the same went on in the civilian world of the late 1950s.

God bless!

Oh Irene, I do remember that. My Mother was from England, my Grandparents were Taylors - I didn't have anything store bought until I was old enough to work and buy my own.

How about the comptometer, or the Burroughs Bookkeeping Machine, or the Ditto carbon which was used on a Ditto machine. Used Ozalid (orange reproduction carbon), and the first FAX machines, which were used on a vertical spindle.
Talk about older than dirt. We had the first TV set sold in the City of Los Angeles.

Putting rolls of film into a camera, taking each photo after much deliberation as we had so few shots and waiting a week or more for the film to be developed and prints made.

Long distance telephone calls that had to be booked 24 hours in advance.

Telex machines.

Adding machines with a little button you pressed so they remembered a number you wanted to add several times because there was no multiplication function.

Writing accounts on paper in big ledgers and then a few years later on Kalamazoo pre-sensitised paper - what magic we thought that was!

Maypole and climbing bars in the school yard (wouldn't be allowed today - might get a skinned knee).

Teacher hugging child who needed it (can't do that now, might be sued).

Holding a child back if the teacher felt it was best for the child (they can't do that any more either).
