emoticon Everyone. I think this was a very good team challenge. We will do it again in May, maybe a 2 week challenge instead of 21 days. The warmer weather gets us outside and moving.....makes it easier to avoid eating.

Thank you all so much emoticon ....your are all emoticon

Marion

EVERYONE GETS A TEAM GOODIE FOR THIS CHALLENGE.....IF YOU DO NOT GET YOURS IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS PLEASE LET ME KNOW emoticon

We have bad habits in our background, about eating. Just recognising them makes a deference. Learning what is seasonal and local keeps more vitamins in them. Probably one more week of leaks at the farmers market. So I spent $1.25 on veggies. parsley is fine but just one plant. Free eggs. Capon from Coop for farmers market bought mushrooms.

Yes, you' re right. I think it has to do with what we allow to control us in the food department. I did pretty well with not having sugar treats, but ended up scarfing down the pretzels. Hmmm. I'll be working on that one as well over these six weeks.

Oh YAY! Thanks for setting us on this challenge. Think I'll try to keep on nudging myself in this area with a less rigorous plan. Cookies and other treats will be OK sometimes...in moderation. That is the benefit that I see in these food challenges. We get into a habit of better choices!

I can give up candy and chips for 5 days easily but the last 2 days of the week are impossible. I have them in easy reach at work since I sell them to our guest at the motel.
I get ansy and can't concentrate on work when I can't have them. Like when I leave my money at home.
I have problems with cravings. Carrots is a poor substitute when I want chips. They just don't satisfy the craving. Fruit is not helping the craving for candy either. The more I try to replace the candy and chips the more I want them as well as the healthy foods. I end up eating so much more food then I should. I end up going over on calories, carbs, fats and sodium.
I have been trying to track food and exercise all week. I found that I spend so much time tracking food that, that is all I think about so want to eat more even if it means adding it to the tracker and over eating. Even if I plan healthy meals I end up eating something else not so healthy instead. I have upped my exercise from 15 minutes to between 30 minutes - 1 hour twice a week and I have seen weight loss of 3.8 today and blood sugar drop from 153 mg/dL to 137 mg/dL. I have decided to not worry so much about the food and concentrate on the exercise. I want to get so I am exercising 5 days per week for 1 hour. Saturday and Sunday would be lighter so body can rest. I am hoping that by upping exercise the eating will work itself out.

Hi Lindam, Mushroom leak soup sound yummy. Did you use an SP recipe or your own? Be encouraged, one step at a time in this challenge busy of junky food. Out habits do take awhile to break. Substitutes are so helpful. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

MARILYN,
Perhaps you are trying to give up too much too soon. Why not start with just one bad food. One that might be easiest for you and not so overwhelming.

For instance, if you drink soda/sugary drinks during the day, choose a time period, like 12pm - 2pm every day that you will not drink a soda or sweet drink. If water does not work than find a healthier, lower calorie alternative:

www.stretcher.com/stories/99/991213b.cfm

..and read everyday motivational and success stories that you can find on Spark in the Community Section & Articles & videos. The more positive information you take in the stronger your motivation will be to reach your goals and the more knowledge you have the better the choices will be.

I have not been able to give up the junk. I can't stop thinking about food. I am going grocery shopping later this week and will buy some fruits and veggies that are easy to snack on and see if that will help.

I am still going strong. I've been able to avoid the sweets such as cakes, cookies, pies, donuts, chocolate candy, or ice cream and such. Yesterday night was my hardest so far because I wanted something really sweet. So I went to Wal-Mart and bought a fruit tray and was able to satisfy my sweet tooth.

So far, so good! I have not had any kind of soft drink since the challenge began. The afternoons when the kids get home from school are the toughest, but I have been substituting with a decaf coffee or an herbal tea and it has been helping. emoticon

Are we really at day 10? So far I've been able to stay off the sugar with the exception of Tuesday PM when friends made homemade ice cream for our supper with them. It is tough, but thanks for the challenge to toss the "junk food".

the last couple days have been hard.

I live in Brisbane Queensland and we are currently dealing with stroms and flooding, i havn't had power in 4days so i have had to buy food for breakfast lunch and dinner.
I'm tryingt o get healthy non-junk food but its hard.

i can't wait for the power to come back on and to fill my fridge with health food, however in saying i may be deployed to the worst flood affect areas to help the community but if that is the case i will be going with a bag packed with fruit and veg.

I always remind myself that tomorrow will be better. emoticon I made a low-carb crust pizza last night. I didn't have flax meal and used a combination of flax seeds and wheat flour. It wasn't too bad, I just had 2 pieces instead of my one piece and a salad with it. I was too full and kind of felt miserable after dinner last night. But I can't beat myself up and do better today. Weather it is eating lighter or extra exercise minutes.

Lets make today a better day, emoticon

Confession is good for the soul! You will do better today. As part of my plan, I went to the store and got lots of fruits and vegetables and fixed an appropriate meal so I have left overs today for lunch. I brought fruit to snack on today instead of chips that call me name a lot! Heres to a great day for all of us.

Today was alright. I went to the park and had the shakes, too close to lunch. The only thing I had in my purse was a small piece of chocolate. I had to eat to bring up my sugar level. After that, I went to the store and bought a huge back of sugar-free mints to suck on if that happens again. Otherwise, my day was good as gold. emoticon

I missed this so I would like to join today if possible. I plan to give up Whataburger, McDonalds, and Chick Fil A. I tend to buy breakfast out every day due to getting up too early to prepare something for breakfast. I plan to go to the store tonight and pick up some "healthy" items so I can do better the rest of the week. emoticon I need all the support I can get! Good luck everyone!

Hi All! My name is Susie and I think that I am a Junk Food Junkie! This is going to be a major challenge for me but I know one that I need to do. emoticon

I hope that I can meet a few good friends and gain some support in cutting out all junk food. I was a person who drank at least 88 oz of diet coke a day. I have given that up since Jan. 1 and I have started drinking water! Yay me! Not meaning that I have cut out the diet coke completely but I drink less than 8 oz a day now...I am hoping to do the same with all the other junk that I eat.

Love the people that treat you right, Pray for the ones that don't.

I'm not a huge fan of junk food, but I do eat chips and chocolate every now and then. However, I think giving up alcohol would be a harder -- and more beneficial -- challenge for me so that's what I'm going to do. I had my last "drink" last night and I'm going to aim for ONLY drinking on Friday and Saturday to start and it's dependent on my getting my four workouts in for the week. Wish me luck and good luck to the rest of you!

Still no junk food, and for me that includes fast food. The fast food was calling my name all weekend, so I made sure I had stocked up on better food choices. And actually then went home and had better food.

Hi thought I had better check in, been a busy week. I'm still cookie and cracker free. It has been rough a time or too at work. One day I didn't take enough to eat and got hungary. Had a glass of low fat milk and yogurt, did the trick. Looks like we are doing pretty good. emoticon

Went grocery shopping tonight...FF milk + lowfat yogurt + sesame seeds + egg whites (I think this will work with some onion/red pepper and mushrooms like an omelet). I feel so good about this.

I am giving up everything except meat eggs, and vegetables. I did perfect for day 1, and all set for day 2. I am about to cook up my lunch, and dinner.

Pizza and pop are the biggest issues I face. My brother works at a pizzeria that I managed, and if I order they give me a discount.

Yesterday was a good day. Took the dog out for a walk in the park and by passed my favorite store that I always felt I need to go in there. When I go in there, I would come out with a candy bar. This time, me and the dog waved as we drove by. Very hard for me, but I over came it. emoticon

Today is the real test, I had a very bumpy morning with my son. I so want to and would always get a sugary snack. But I took out a mint (sugar-free) and ate that. Not bad. emoticon

Hope everyone has a super day,

Good Morning all -- I'm not much of a junk food person, but there are things that I can give up for 21 days - Kemps Moose Tracks Frozen Yogurt. I am a pasta/brown rice lover, so I am going to cut back on that as well...

There are healthy snacks (90 calorie fiber bars, mini chocolate rice cakes & sourdough pretzels) that I have recently started eating - limited to 1 per day - think I am going to stop eating then for 21 days as well...

This is going to be fun...Thanks for this challenge...
