I also like Lambrusco as a sparkling red from Italy & only about $11!!! Yum!

If you like sparkling wines, Prosecco is nice - Italian champagne, a little sweeter but not as sweet as Spumante (bleah!). My fave is by Zardetto.

I guess we're lucky - we live in a duty free port, so EVERYWHERE sells tons of alcohol for pretty cheap - even KMart, LOL!!!!!!

I prefer Pinot Noir or Zifandel for red & Riesling or Sparkling for white. Rose is also good (love it with Greek food & light pastas)

I am not really up on which wines are carried in supermarkets. My hubby is really into wine so always buys different ones. I love Charles Krug, Neal for reds but I don't think they are in every market. Domaine Chandon makes good sparkling. V Sattui makes a good Rose but you can only internet order or buy at the winery in Napa.

If you go online, you can find wine ratings on different sites to help you find some recommendations.

Costco's wine department is usually pretty well stocked.

Wine bars or wine & tapa places are also a good way to try some different wines.

what are you planing on serving with it? The food and spice or lack there of can enhance or detract from the wine...

One of my favorite wines is Chenin Blanc by Beringer - very light, fruity, but not sweet. Great summer wine. Around here it goes for about $3.50 to $4.25, which is an unbelievable price!

We served it at our wedding. Seemed to be a big hit.

Wine can really be a personal thing. I believe I can't go wrong with a really good Reisling. Believe it or not, Blue Nun is pretty good for an inexpensive brand.
