WoooHOoo We rocked the February challenge. In total we crossed 3,900 miles!!!!! Our last destination is Columbus, Georgia

1 Founded in 1953, the Columbus Museum (accredited by the American Association of Museums) contains much artifacts on both American art and regional history, displayed in both its permanent collection as well as temporary exhibitions.

2 Columbus is home to the National Civil War Naval Museum, a 40,000-square-foot (3,700 m2) facility that opened in 1962 and features two original American Civil War military vessels, uniforms, equipment and weapons used by the Union and Confederate navies.

3 The Coca-Cola Space Science Center opened in 1996 for the purpose of public education in science, physics, and astronomy. It includes seven flight simulators and a planetarium.[18]

4 The National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center opened in June 2009 and honors the service of Infantry forces in the United States Army. The museum includes displays related to the history of the Infantry from the founding of the nation to the present. It also has its own IMAX theatre.

5 Columbus is served by one major indoor shopping mall, Peachtree Mall, which is anchored by major department stores Dillard's, Macy's, and J.C. Penney. The total retail floor area is 821,000 square feet (76,300 m2). Major strip malls include Columbus Park Crossing, which opened in 2003, and The Landings, which opened in 2005. Columbus is also served by The Shoppes at Bradley Park, a lifestyle center.

6 MidTown contains two of the city's early suburban shopping centers (the Village on 13th and St. Elmo), both recently renovated and each offering local shops, restaurants, and services.

Hi Ladies, looks like we have crossed a total of 3,527 miles since the beginning of the month. We have just a couple more days left so make them count!!!! We crossed 163 miles in the last couple of days and are now in Fayetteville, NC:

Fayetteville was the first city named for The Marquis de Lafayette and the only one city he actually visited, in 1825. The carriage he used during his visit is on display at the Fayetteville Independent Light Infantry Armory & Museum

Babe Ruth hit his first home run as a professional baseball player in Fayetteville, on March 7, 1914.

The Airborne & Special Operations Museum is the only place where you can see, hear and experience the comprehensive history of the U.S. Army airborne & special operations units.

The Babe’s bat boy was Maurice Fleishman, who became a successful Fayetteville clothier and county commissioner.

The state of NC ratified the NC Constitution in Fayetteville in 1789.

Fayetteville missed being NC's capitol by one vote!

In 1839, the first cotton mill in present day Hope Mills, equipped with cotton spinning machinery, was constructed. The factory was known as “Rockfish Manufacturing Company” in “Rockfish Village”, and operated 3,000 spindles and 120 looms

Jack McKeon, Manager of the Florida Marlins and the National League Manager of the Year for 2003, got his professional start managing the now-defunct Fayetteville Highlanders of the Carolina League.

The University of North Carolina, America's oldest public university, was chartered in Fayetteville in 1789

Golfers Ray and Marlene Floyd grew up and honed their skills on Fayetteville courses

Archibald "Moonlight" Graham, made infamous by the movie "Field of Dreams" was born and raised in Fayetteville

19th- century artist Elliott Daingerfield, known for painting “The Grand Canyon” grew up in Fayetteville.

Methodist College is one of only 14 schools nationwide and the only Division III school to offer the PGA-sanctioned Professional Golf Management degree

emoticon we are rocking and rolling on this challenge. We have crossed a total of 3,364 miles. Our last destination was Philly and since we crossed over 200 miles it was either go south or end up in the ocean LOL so we headed south and are not in Chesapeake, VA, I'm still looking for some fun facts about this city. So far all I've found have been Census stats, that's boring! I will keep looking and post again later.

Keep up the great work ladies!!!!

Thanks Temeka. I feel so much better. I went biking twice today on the same route. It was 30 minutes each time. Going and returning on the route was 3 miles.

Women of Color Unite ROCKS emoticon

We moved another 585 miles for a total so far of 2,927 miles and we're just half way through the month!!!!!

I think I need to step up my work outs, how are you ladies able to do 90 minutes in one day? That's awesome. I think I'm going to incorporate some yoga into my routine because I pulled a muscle in my back on Tuesday and was barely able to walk on Wednesday, not sure if I'm stretching enough.

I'll be back to post our new destination!

Keep up the great work ladies!!!! We are working out way across the country and I'm so happy you all are particpating.

I have not worked out since Saturday emoticon so I will make up for it tonight.

We have moved 140 miles N/E of Louisville up to Dayton, OH. In total we have traveled a total of 2,342 miles!!!!! Below are some fun facts on Dayton:

1. Dayton has one of the largest IT industry clusters in the country, and one of the nation's largest clusters of advanced manufacturing companies.

2. More than half of the nation's population is within 90 minutes of the Dayton International Airport.

3. Dayton was named the Ohio Aerospace Hub in 2009.

4. Dayton hosted the 1995 Dayton Peace Accords, which ended the war in Bosnia.

5. The average commute time in the Dayton region is only 19 minutes.

6. James J. Ritty, of Dayton, invented the cash register in 1879 to stop his patrons from pilfering house profits.

7. Dayton was named for John Dayton, a congressman from New Jersey who, along with several partners, owned the land when the original settlers arrived.

8. The region was referred to as the " Dayton Purchase",
then just Dayton. It is said that John Dayton never visited Dayton, Ohio.

9. The Wright Brothers built the world's first successful engine-powered aircraft here and today the community hosts the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, one of the nation's largest military bases.

We made it to 211 miles yesterday and a total of 1,022 miles. We are still in Colorado but I figured we would take a detour south and check out Aspen before heading East again:

1. The Hotel Jerome in downtown Aspen had one of the first elevators west of the Mississippi. Hotel Jerome opened in 1889 and remains one of the premiere hotels in Aspen.

2. Throughout Aspen Mountain’s trees, you can find four hidden “shrines” made by locals in homage to John Denver, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and The Greatful Dead’s, Jerry Garcia

3. Snow mass is the second largest ski area in the country with 3,010 acres – 36 Disneylands could fit within the ski area boundaries.

4. Singer John Denver made Aspen his home and was inspired by the town’s beauty when he wrote his 1972 world-recognized hit, “Rocky Mountain High.”

5. In 1887, Aspen became the first Colorado town to provide electricity to the whole of its population, totaling 8,000 at the time.

6. Independence Pass at 12,095 feet is the highest mountain pass in Colorado.

7. In the 1890s, Durant Avenue was known as the Red-Light District of Aspen.

8. Prospectors first discovered the silver lodes in 1879, and the mining town that resulted was called Ute City. The area was renamed to Aspen in 1880 due to the abundance of aspen trees.

9. During the 1930s and '40s, skiing was born in the Aspen area, and was enhanced by Army soldiers who came from nearby Camp Hale for recreation. (In 1935, Aspen was scheduled to become one of Colorado’s premiere ski resorts but had to postpone its opening due to the War)

10. Today, Aspen is known as a cultural, historical and sports center of the United States, as well as a chic, stylish mountain resort town offering upscale lodging and shopping, complemented by Special Events and Festivals.

On Sunday we left Phoenix and landed in Mesa,AZ. I've never heard of this city but below are some things I found emoticon

1. In 2005, Mesa's population was approximately 460,000, making it the third largest city in Arizona following Phoenix and Tucson.

2. Mesa is the Spanish word for table

3. Hohokam Indians were the first Native American settlers to Mesa

4. The Mormons were the second settlers to Mesa

5. The Honeymoon Trail is the road from Winslow to Saint George, Utah. Prior to 1926, Mormon couples had to travel to the Mormon Temple in Utah to be married.

6. Mesa is home to The Chicago Cubs Spring Training team.

7. The Superstitions mountain range east of Mesa is believed to be the hiding place of the Lost Dutchman mine

8. Name the dam that is northeast of Mesa and named after the 26th U.S. President. Answer: Roosevelt.

9. Saguaro cactus blossom is Arizona's state flower

10. How many days of sunshine does Mesa usually have? Answer: 320 days

On Saturday we crossed over into Arizona, Phoenix to be exact. Here are some interesting and funny things I found:

1. Phoenix is home to the largest municipal park in the world. South Mountain Park covers more than 20,000 acres. The area has more than 1,700 acres of traditional park land. Arizona is home to 23 reservations representing 21 different Native American tribes.

2. Phoenix is the United States’ sixth-largest city with a population of over 1.4 million.

3. According to data compiled by the National Climatic Data Center, Phoenix basks in sunshine more often than any other major metropolitan area in the U.S. The sun shines on Phoenix during 85 percent of its daylight hours

4. There are 55,000 hotel rooms, 200 golf courses, and almost no rain (7.66 inches of annual rainfall, an average annual high temperature of 85, and 325 sun-filled days per year).

5. COTTON is king in Arizona agriculture: it’s the largest single cash crop.

6. CATTLE are a $2.6 billion business in Arizona, providing income and jobs for 4,000 cattle producers. The state ranks 13th in the US in cattle production.

7. CITRUS – Arizona’s Salt River Valley produces 5 million cartons of fruit each year, spawning a $40 million citrus industry. Arizona is third in production in the US behind Florida and California. National Agricultural Statistics Service

8. In the past, Arizona’s economy was based on these five “Cs”. That has changed with the exception of the “climate” element of the five Cs. The five new elements driving the statewide economy now are: high tech manufacturing, tourism, health care, financial/back room operations and warehousing/distribution centers.

9. It is less expensive to live in Arizona’s major cities than in most metropolitan areas in the West, according to a new report prepared by the Arizona Department of Commerce.

10. Arizona has more boats per capita than any other state in the nation.

I'm off to a slow start--just 20 minutes yesterday. I'll be back later to post what I do today. Temeka do you have the Donkey Booty workout? I can't wait for your review!

Way to go Julena! We crossed 122 miles yesterday which means we're still in L.A. let's see how far we get today.
I'm still down with this flu but luckily I'm still able to stick to my diet but exercise is out right now. Hopefully I'll be back up in a couple days. I have the new work out Dvd from Phaedra of The Atlanta Housewives and I'm excited to try it out.

Great job MrsBlak! I will total up everyone's points at the end of the day and post in the morning how many miles we did collectively.

Unfortunately I have a bad case of the flu, once my medicine kicks in I'm going to try to do a few sit ups or maybe jump rope for 10 minutes or so but a full kick boxing work out is out of the questions today... I hate being sick.

Temeka,
Of course I am joining you. Are we adding our minutes together to move eastward or are we doing this as individuals? Because of my mobility issues I may not be able to contribute as many minutes but I'm excited to have some motivation to move.

Good Morning,

I have been inactive for a LONG time. I was prompted to come back by Temeka's e-mail. I thought I would come and just browse. When I saw that you had no responses, I was prompted to respond. It can be very discouraging not to have any help. I do well in a group atmosphere and when I have other people to be accountable to, so I'm going to step up and joint the challenge. I did LOL at some of the fun facts, especially the fact that it's illegal to marry a rock. Thanks for your time end effort. I'll post tomorrow on how many minutes I moved.

Our life is a a sum total of the choices we have made. I choose to make changes in my life and allow God to be in control to keep me from being out of control.

This challenge is designed to get us up and moving. We are going to travel across the United States one fitness minute at a time. We will start in Los Angeles and try to get as far east as we can. Do you think we can make it to the East Coast in 28 days? Let's try!!!

The rules of the challenge are simple. Each day you will need to post how many minutes you worked out in this thread. Each minute will represent a mile. Each time we cross into a new city I will post fun facts about that city, and if anyone else has any fun facts to add feel free.

There's 2,400 miles between L.A. and N.Y.C can we make it??? Let's get moving ladies!!!
