I found I am allergic to artificial sweeteners. I am now using Truvia with no problem. Recently purchased the spoonable package because the packets are to expensive for me. Rodyanne

Just finishing week 4 tomorrow, and thinking ahead to staying if not sugar free, certainly eating very much less sugar.

One of my downfalls is chocolate, and my DH just bought a bunch of Lindor chocolate -- UGH. I'm going to give a bunch to DS, bring some to work for others, and hide a few favourites away for my birthday on September 24th.

Other than that, the combo herbal teas (I combine a citrus and a berry) seems to cut my evening cravings so I'll be sticking to that, and no fruit without some type of fat (cheese, nuts) to slow down the sugar rush. Off to read all of YOUR ideas!!!

I'm not sure how long ago I started the challenge. I do know that despite saying I would go cold turkey when I started, I didn't. Anyway on the 6th of August I quit sugar for at least 100 days. That's my personal goal. I will stay strong! I have not cut out fruit, I find that it is not a personal trigger, and provides lots of other better nutrients. I hope to get past my brother's birthday without eating cake, it's at the beginning of September and I'll be thirty days into the challenge so I really don't want to blow it. emoticon

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.

Mistakes are the portals of discovery.

Don't be afraid to give your best at what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.

In my first week, and you are all so inspiring! Thanks for sharing your ideas and successes - it's very encouraging. One thing I've found that worked wonderfully for me was fruity herbal teas. I combined a citrus and a berry, and it took care of any cravings. Unfortunately, it was a gift of very expensive (ridiculously expensive, really) herbal tea, and I haven't found quite the right substitute yet... open to any suggestions.

Like some others here, I'm sensitive to any type of sweetener including artificial sweeteners. I may be able to add a bit of maple syrup to plain greek yogurt, but that's about it. Even fruit without cheese or nuts will set me off.

Managed to stay away from sugar the whole month of July. I find myself making up for it in refined carbs though. I will have to tackle the carb issue soon.

I am trying to stay away from sugar. It has not been my friend and I think I am addicted to it. I get a little numb from aspartame so I also do not touch any artificial sweeteners....I think they are a whole new set of problems for some. I find when I need something sweet, I will suck on a 20 calorie hard candy (like Werther's) until the urge passes.

If you are doing well without them, then stay away from them. You did great staying away from them for so long. It was hard work. Don't get involved with it again. Good luck.

Discovered today that my previous fave binge foods are in the past just for today.
Have been away from bakery, candy, ice cream, etc for 9 months now.
I have lost the desire for them!

All the sugar I consumed today made me feel really sick.
Wasn't a good feeling!!!

I have no problems with sugar free candy, I have problems with real sugar. Usually when I have some it triggers a sugar binge. It's strange how these things work on us. I mostly try to stay away from real sugar.

I'm busted!

After no sugar since December of last year I found the chocolate covered raisins and almonds.
Had a mini binge times two!

Yes, I am logging the sweets in the nutrition tracker.

THIS CHALLENGE HAS HELPED ME TO FIND ALTERNATIVES TO SUGAR. I'VE LEARNED THAT THERE ARE OTHER TYPES OF SWEETENERS AVAILABLE AND FOODS THAT ARE NATURALLY SWEET. HOWEVER, THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON I LEARNED HAS BEEN THAT SUGAR IS FINE TO HAVE AS LONG AS YOU HAVE IT IN MODERATION.
MY LONG TERM PLAN FOR SUGAR IS TO CONTROL HOW MUCH I HAVE IN MY HEALTHY EATING AND TO TREAT IT WITH GREAT RESPECT IN HOW OFTEN I HAVE IT.

Becoming a better me!
