I have tamed my sweet tooth. I think what I like most of all is feeling in control. I used to feel out of control when I was trying to figure out where my next sweet fix was going to come from. I hated feeling that way, not to mention the anxiety I felt from not having the sweets right when I wanted them, and how I felt after eating a lot of sweets all at once. I am in control now! emoticon

3rd sugar dt session since I started this challenge. Felt so sick, I thought I had a virus. Came across with the memory of the last two events and had a small amount of sugar in my iced tea. Voila! I felt better almost immediately. Now that I am more conscious of what my body does with and without sugar, I am so grateful to be working on beating this lifelong addiction and a little more sympathetic to those people who battle their own addictions.

emoticon I am so happy!! No sugar for about 2 weeks now. Some days I think I want chocolate, fortunately the thoughts do not last. I feel so much better. My mind is clearer, I can concentrate better. My sinuses cleared up. I had to throw away any temptation food and stock up on healthy alternatives. I also eat every 3 hours to keep blood sugar level - healthy meals and healthy snacks.

I thought summer would be easier because I work outside in the flower beds and the garden. It seems I am hungry more often. We get invited to picnic events (one again tonight at church) and it is really hard for me to be careful. emoticon

Did really well for 4-6 wks. (I have ALWAYS had a sweet tooth!) But, have blown it the last 4 days. Back to drinking sodas, eating candy, whatever I can get my hands on!! Have gained 2 pounds back of the 15 I've lost! Seems like I'm constantly hungry. Trying to get back on track today. Maybe I need to restart the challenge again.

WE went to a picnic yesterday and I thought it would be a bad day. It was not too bad as I only at the meat and salad. My husband brought back some dessert but I skipped that table. a

I only ate a chocolate bar last night instead of multiple bars. I also have two more bars left, something that NEVER happens.

Well done everyone! It seems this challenge really works.

After having overindulged (yet again) over a sugar fueled weekend I found this challenge in the hope of finding a solution to my problem. And it definitely did help! I realised that I don't need sugar to 'celebrate' the weekend, or 'commiserate' a bad day and that I was giving into my cravings far too easily. After a week of monitoring and then reducing my sugar intake over the following weeks I really feel much more in control. Towards the end of this week I wasn't craving sugar at all and found it incredibly easy to avoid the cakes at a friends Birthday celebration. I'm so glad i found this challenge and would definitely be up for the next one...bring it on!

It is hard to admit you are addicted to sweets. I have finally gotten myself to no mini candy bars at night or cookies. I have blueberries, an apple, orange, or even some carrots and celery with a little peanut butter. I sleep better with out the sugar. It has taken a while for me not to just walk past, reach for the healthy treat, or just get a glass of water.

I have tamed my sweet tooth. I use to eat 2 or three candy bars a day a few cookies and had brown sugar in my oatmeal. Now I eat 1/2 a york peppermint pattie a day and have fresh fruit with my oatmeal.

Want to let you know in advance that I admit something about myself and if you are male or squeamish, you may not want to read...
You have been warned...

*** ++ ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ## ###
Last post of the things I've noticed. 1) I had a fight with my sister and didn't eat the whoopee pies I have
2) I have had a chocolate pot de creme in my fridge for 3 days and haven't touched it
3) I have some ginger candy and it was on sale and I ate two pieces per day for three days. Haven't touched it or thought about it till this post.

The point is that I have been triggered big time (big fight with my sister, upset with husband, PO'd with school kids) and I have not increased my intake of sugar. Other than my morning coffee, I'm not taking in lots of it.

So here it goes. During my week of PMS, I ingested no chocolate. None, nada, zilch! I have never done that. It is usually my sign that my time is coming. I saw chocolate. Wanted it. Bought some. Ingested none. That alone makes this challenge worth it, because I will blow three weeks of good hard work with my weekly chocolate binge. I know now that things have really changed for me and I look forward to the changes continuing! Thanks for everything guys!!! All of the support and such

DUKETTE316 - I cut up a huge fruit salad and have it in the fridge at all times. Then when I crave candy bars or such I get a cup of it or 2. Then I keep telling myself this is worth it. Just little things help. Besides fuit is much lower in calories than a candy bar and its better sugars for you. You gotta do what you gotta do!

I have defiantly cut back my sweet tooth. I went out this past weekend to a group event I go to and everyone always brings sweets and in the past I always over did on eating sweets. This time I only had one cookie and a very small slice of someone's birthday cake. I filled up on the healthy choices first before I had any sweets.

I have changed so much in my relationship go sugar. I see that the challenge is tame the sweet tooth and not to banish it forever. I feel that it is tamed quite a bit. I no longer spend lots of time after dinner or after work looking for/searching for/wasting time trying to find something sweet to eat. I'm truly OK without it. Other than my coffee, I have actually had some sugar-free days. I also found myself eating something sugary and thinking - I don't really want to do this. The obligation to eat the whole thing was a bit much. This is a new day for me!

done, actually I've been sweet and sugar free for 9 months except for about 5 tiny sugar cookies a week when i'm away from home --- and feel like a million bucks down 55 pounds. at work the other day I looked at a huge box of glazed donuts and called them what they are: POISON. walked away and knew I was healthier for it!!

Yes I'm doing very well. It seems that I don't feel like I need it as much as I did before. When I crave for it I usally get up at work and walk that helps a lot. That was my worst sweet tooth habit because we have candy around all the time. I reallly feel good about this now.

Yeah! Thanks to Atkins I've totally stopped sugar. I'm still not on any major carbs or sugars, even fruit, and I actually feel great. I know that in moderation it can be okay, and that I can even wait out cravings...also, Atkins has some Endulge bars that taste just like candy bars, but have almost no sugar, so I can "endulge" in one of those IF I feel the need for something that tastes sugary. :)

I feel like I've tamed my sweet tooth. I actually quit sugar cold turkey and got bad headaches at first, but after the 4 weeks its been a lot easier. I had a slice of wedding cake last weekend and haven't had any cravings for sugar after that so I feel like I'll be able to enjoy sugar in moderation at special occasions now instead of binge eating sugar products.

Wow I must say that I have really been good. Actually today was the first day in a long time that I actually had a small piece of cake. It was at my great nephew's 3rd birthday party. It was nice, but now I'm ready again to stop eating that. It is nice to know I can walk away from sweets. It is really a good feeling.

Have you tamed your sugar tooth?
I'm sorry to say that I haven't tamed my sugar tooth completely. Most days I had at least one "treat".

Are you ready for another 4 Week Follow Up Challenge?
Definitely! Keep going I say!

What did you learn from your 1st 4 weeks of the Tame Your Sweet Tooth Challenge?
To check labels, the different kinds of sugars...that sugar is not the answer to my tiredness, or boredom or frustration.

What goals do you have for the next four weeks?
To keep trying to cut my daily intake of sugar laden foods, try to get to the point where I can go sugarless for days, instead of hours.

What advice can you share with others about how to gain control of the sugar monster?
Take each day one at a time. Find alternatives to your sweet cravings, like fruit or fresh veggies.

Yesterday I was walking through a town in the sunshine, and rather than craving an ice cream, I found myself craving some satsumas outside a grocery shop. I bought myself a bar of chocolate later on as a treat for the cycling and hiking I'd done, and only ate one piece. Before it would have all been gone in 5 minutes.

I have been doing a low-carb diet and that has helped quite a bit by reducing sugars of all sorts, I think if I'd just swapped the processed sugars for healthier ones I'd have had more cravings.

I've learned to try and plan ahead, but to know that once I start with something sweet it will be twice as difficult to stop. Eating protein helps me a lot, a piece of cheese or a few nuts. Drinking water also helps. When I do give in it has to be portion control and walk away!

I learned a lot on this Challenge. Actually my body learned a lot. REally lessened my cravings for sweets. Virtually eliminated wanting chocolate each evening. Instead I will have a cup of herbal tea and a few nuts or small piece of fruit. The odd time I allow myself a small dish of sorbet or a tablespoon of peanut butter reduces any momentum for cravings to start up again. I really enjoyed the Challenge and feel more in control of my choices. I'm kind of a middle of the road type of gal: moderation in all things.

I was never a sugar addict (butter addict- YES), but eating sweets was just a part of life. Doughnuts at the office? I'd eat one or two. Candy at Halloween? Of course, they were there for me to enjoy. Christmas cookies? I was a bottomless pit. I did all this without thinking. During this challenge, I learned to think first and choose a healthy alternative second. I rely on grapefruit, ˝ cup plain Greek yogurt with a tablespoon of honey, dates, apples and 85% cocoa chocolate squares. These are all changes that I know I can live with, because they all taste so good to me now. I feel 100% better and look forward to mastering other challenges.

Arizona - thanks for starting this thread. I really was focused on this challenge.
Tamed being the operative word. I'm also trying hard to focus on enjoying healthy food that is sweet. Such as a a smoothie with dates instead of sweetener and sugar (1 frozen banana, 2 dates, bio-yogurt, 1 tbs chia seeds, 1 cup ice, cinnamon...blend away)
I also find that fruit is yummy when in salads. Have you tried lettuce, avocado and grapefruit (red grapefruit?). Don't forget to peel the segments first. Fruit should always be paired with a protein (apples and cheese anyone? )

The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your
life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on,
rely on, or blame. The gift is yours -- it is an amazing
journey -- and you alone are responsible for the quality of
it. This is the day your life really begins."

New goals:
Eat Positively
Exercise daily (that one is already achieved)
Experiment with 3-5 meals a day
Avoid binge for at least 3 weeks.

I learned what my triggers are for eating sugar. And what I like are desserts--whipped cream, cake, frosting etc. I lost a few pounds while on the challenge although I did not cut out sweets completely (I like jam on my english muffins), I did severely curtail the desserts, and was feeling pretty proud of myself! So, of course I sabotaged myself and really slacked off the past couple of days. However, I'm ready to be vigilant again and keep myself on track.

I don't know how to separate out a thread (is that what I'm supposed to do?) and then put a special title on my post. Maybe someone could tell me how to do this?

Tamed no, but cut way down - YES! This challenge has helped me to lose a couple of lbs when my weight become "stuck". I am much more aware of what brings about my cravings for sweets, including the trigger foods and emotional issues. This will be an ongoing battle...I love fruit, but some times nothing hits that sweet spot like candy can.

Finished the Taming Your Sugar Tooth Challenge--4 WEEK FOLLOW UP!
I am starting a thread that we can share with others that are following the Tame Your Sugar Tooth Challenge. So, please share the thread so that we can check in with each other using just one thread and maybe we can put headings on each post that we make so that at a glance people can see what the focus of the individual posts are.

Have you tamed your sugar tooth? Are you ready for another 4 Week Follow Up Challenge?

What did you learn from your 1st 4 weeks of the Tame Your Sweet Tooth Challenge? What goals do you have for the next four weeks? What advice can you share with others about how to gain control of the sugar monster?
