Feeling like I am more in control with sweets. When I have artificial sweeteners I get really edgy and jittery! I am going to try to stay away from using them. I eat dark chocolate 85 percent. Not all the time.

For me I have found that the sugar like salt causes me to retain water. I try to stay away from them both as much as possible. I have not totally cut them out of my overall diet, but I do not consume nearly as many and I am conscious about my consumption. In my past, I could have eaten chocolate candy bars by the bags. Now I do not have the first one in my house. So I really think that that is an accomplishment.

I am also paying more attention to sweets, and find that if I eat foods that have added sugar and or are processed (ie: store bought cookies) I now react with getting a headache. So if and when I get a sweet craving, I eat fresh fruit, or even veggies that are normally sweeter, ie a carrot compared to potato. So I have learned a lot by avoiding sweets, and I feel so much better for it. This was a very interesting challenge.... difficult and informative. Thank you emoticon

I had a great swap today of buying yoplait whips instead of bakery items. Valentine's day has been hard to stay away from the sweets but successful today. Had a mounds yesterday because they were in the house.

I ate a tb. Of the peanut butter with cane sugar and I felt lousy! Going to be more careful to watch ingredients on labels. It takes a conscious effort when shopping. It" so easy to pick up the wrong thing. I try to do the same thing eat foods in the whole form than I don't have to worry about it. But sometimes you just want something different. Cereal I found is the hardest thing to find sugarfree. The only thing I found was cooked cereal.

My ongoing trouble is being tired. Unless I am well prepared with food, I fall into bad habits when I'm tired -- I just have no resistance. Part of the problem is work is insanely busy so there is little time available for good planning or simply breathing.

Today went really well until after dinner, I gave in and had sherbet, but I kept it to 1/2 cup.
If I can keep doing that I should be okay. And yes it is very hard to find foods without sugar.
I've cut back on eating out and cooking from scratch trying to stay away from processed food.

I am very conscious of what I eat sweet. I can't believe how many foods have sugar in them. I bought some natural peanut butter and found out when i got home that it had cane sugar in it as a sweetener. Trying to find foods with no added sugar. That is sure hard to do. It sure opened my eyes to all the foods that have added sugar included in them. I do my best but some times you just can't afford it. Especially if going out to eat. Oh well I do the best I can. It is quite an education.

I'm going to do fruit as a dessert. I made the frozen banana with pieces of dark chocolate, was that ever good, taste just like ice cream and very filling. I'm going to have occasional chocolate but make sure I get the dark in 85 percent cocoa. I feel much better without the sugar

Into week four find my biggest trigger is when I am tired.....now if I could only take a short nape thing would be easier. I eat nothing over 8grams of sugar so that takes care of a lot. thanks Sparks for getting me through the with drawl.

Just starting week 4, not craving sweets like I was. I've identified my biggest trigger which is boredom, and I am keeping myself busy. Keeping alternative snacks, which are filling and contain protein and fiber. I'll let everyone know how it is going. emoticon

I have been able to not eat sweets as much as I have in the past. I have healthier options in the house that are satisfying my sweet tooth. I find that now that I have less stress, I am less craving sweets.

I am so proud of myself. I was able to say no to a sundae today while out with clients at an ice cream shop. I actually replaced the sundae with two pieces of chocolate covered pretzels.

Well my cravings are at quite a low point. I have had two chocolate candies this week and that is saying something. I still think about the cookies in the cupboard but in the evenings I have not had any whereas I used to eat the whole container. What a difference!

That is a great idea - figuring out calorie counts for foods you crave (cookies, candy, etc.) versus calorie counts for healthy foods (salads, fresh fruits, etc.) and at the same time considering which are more filling/satisfying. This is being mindful about what you are eating. When I do this, I have a much better chance of making the right (healthy) choice.

Has anyone else noticed that if you do eat a sugary treat it seems to sweet. Maybe after 4 weeks watching your sugar intake it changes what you consider sweet.

I have not eaten sweets in almost 4 weeks. Last night I made peanut butter cookies and my oldest had 4 on his plate. (I did not eat any) We got into a discussion about calories. In those 4 cookies were 540 calories and if I would have eaten them, I still would be hungry and want more. I can eat a plate full of lettuce, 12 sliced strawberries, 6 dice almonds, and 1/2 an avocado for less than 500 calories, be full and satisfied with no cravings for sugar. Just something to think about the next time I want to reach for something sweet.

Slowly but surely I am making it happen: experiencing less cravings. When I do experience a craving, I don't usually give in. If I give in, results are much less drastic. I am learning to be more mindful of what I crave and what I eat. Of course, from the start of this challenge I eliminated the most challenging sweets in the house which is a tremendous help.

I have 2 priorities for keeping my sweet tooth under control:

Track what I eat -- everything - planned and unplanned meals and snacks
Count carbs -- all of them every time I eat to stay within my calorie range

I am amazed of the difference in my way of thinking. I was careful about to much fat or watching the carbs but never really gave a thought about the sugar. With this challenge I am more conscious about even what I drink. I think for me it finally sunk in on week four at least three days of week four I had no snacks or sweets not even my Crystal Light I like so much, I drank all water. This was a very good and healthy challenge one I hope to continue for a long time to come.

My main sweet these days is a cup of frozen blueberries in the evening - I look forward to it. Fortunately, we live 23 miles from the nearest fast food place, so I'm not tempted to drop in and my trips to town usually include enough errands that I don't have time to stop for a treat. We don't keep pop/soda in the house and I drink lots of water as we have a good tasting spring. HOWEVER, my husband is 6'4" and weighs 165 pounds - he is trying to gain or at least not loose any more. He loves the pies, cookies, and cinnamon rolls I bake for him. So, I eat one cookie or a small piece of pie on the day they are first baked and can pass them up when they are a day old. I try to avoid artificial sweeteners and now that I am more conscious of the sugar, I find that I am able to say to myself, "Is it worth what it will do to your weight loss plan?" Most of the time the answer is, "No!"
Thanks for helping me be more aware.

After four weeks of reducing my sugar intake (and not changing anything else), I've lost 8 pounds! I still have a sweet tooth, but eating a few bites of a sweet treat--- instead of the whole thing or multiple servings--- satisfies it just as well. I finally feel like I've turned a corner in my health journey! Something finally clicked.

I have definitely found that if I stay away from sugar that I don't crave sweets. Once I get it in my system it roars like a tiger. If I can keep to eating things with less than 4 grams sugar per serving I do much better.

I am very excited to say I haven't had any sugar/desserts for 22 days straight. After 30+ years of having sugar every single day, I feel this has been quite an accomplishment. My cravings for sugar are nonexistent.

Week four, I have been doing pretty good up to yesterday I ate 5 chocolate chip cookies. Received bad news and for some reason I thought eating cookies would make everything go away. I think I found another trigger for eating sugar, but I do have to admit it did not make me feel any better just worse. But, this challenge is showing me different ways to curb my reliance on sugar. My big one is I do not drink anything until I have my 64 oz . of water first, then after that if I want some Crystal light I will have it with my dinner and its working very well for me, even my hubby is doing it. I am up to the challenge of week four just need to keep in mind we will fall once in awhile, but we need to get up brush ourselves off and move on. Good Luck to everyone

My sweet habits are so much better as welll
Was out today and shared a brownie with the person I was meeting and only gave myself a third of it and only ate a half of that...I enjoyed what i had however that was enough...
this is going to be my new goal going forward.....2 bites of something sweet....I don't need to eat it all....

Now into week 4. Have found ways to limit some of my sugar intake. Last trip to the buffet, I chose a second helping of veggies with cheese sauce instead of that triple layer chocolate cake. Without the Sweet Tooth Challenge that never would have happened. I am so lucky now that the price of those candy bars one always finds on the way out of the checkout counters has gone so high. When I could get 2 Snicker bars for a dollar, I used to load up on a dozen of them at a time.. Guess I must be a cheapskate as I won't touch any of that candy at the price they charge now. Somehow it affected the desire and serious cravings that always attacked at that point in other years. However, someone gave me a bag of m&ms for Christmas. Eating a small handful now and then since Dec. 25th, I finally finished the last one tonight. Unless there is some gigantic sale on such items in the future, it is probably my last taste. But I'm looking forward to baking some cookies in the future. I only did one batch at Christmas time. One of these days I'll do another.

My husband and I went on this no sugar kick months ago.

I can't say it's been entirely successful. I still definitely eat sweets sometimes. The holidays were pretty rough.

However, my habits are so much better than they used to be.

Successes:
1) I no longer eat from the candy tray at work (used to do this multiple times a day).
2) I no longer eat any of my kid's Halloween candy or other treats. yes, I know I'm being a bad mom giving my kids candy but at least we limit it to a treat or two a day (after dinner).
3) I have cut down on foods with added sugar like sweetened yogurt.
4) I no longer make desserts unless they are fruit based only like date nut balls or all fruit/veggie smoothies (no added sugar). I do occasionally make sweets to bring to a party (which can be a problem - see below).

Habits I still have and need to break myself of:
1) I am always snacking on cereals. And almost all cereals have added sugar. As you can imagine I eat a lot of cereal. So am I really cured of my sweet tooth? I don't really think so.
2) If there is a really special dessert (and people are bringing things in all the time at work), than all rules go out the window. At least I try to limit my portions.
3) Baking sweets for the holidays and party can be a real problem for me. I can't help licking the bowls!
4) I know fruit is healthy, but now I eat a lot of fruit in addition to sweet cereal. It is better than sweets, but now I would like to increase veggie intake over fruit intake.

All in all, still good changes in my habits as I used to eat some sort of sweet/candy multiple times a day. Now I need to work on my carb intake like the sweets, fruits and white bread. I love carbs!

I'm a long time sugar addict! As I've gone through this challenge, I've started to ask myself if the sugar is really "worth it". I've found that most sweet treats really don't taste *that* good! I'm going to save myself for the really yummy treats (which I don't come across very often). I also used to have a rule that I wouldn't keep any sweet treats in the house. I fell off that wagon, but I'm ready to reimplement that again. My next step is to use fruit to satisfy my sugar cravings.

I somehow made it to week 4 without completely going off the wagon where sweets are concerned. Yay me! My long term plan is to just be conscious of what I'm eating & how often. I'll still allow myself to eat the weekly ice cream sundae someone brings me and the weekly hot chocolate someone brings me every Sunday at church. Other than that, I will save sweets for the occasional treat.

I have had many temptation so far this week.
Cheese cake, candy and I heard this Thursday will be a party with many goodies.
I am proud to say I did not have a piece of the cheese cake and only had two pieces on candy instead of sitting down and eating half the bag .
I know sugar will always be part of my life, giving it up completely does no good.
Making good choices and moderation is my plan of action. I will not beat myself up for having one cookie, instead I will celebrate that I controlled myself and had only one cookie.
