I try to get some kind of distraction to see if I am really hungry or just bored. Sometimes I go for a walk, or call a friend. If after a few minutes I no longer think I need something to eat then it was just a craving or boredom not real hunger.
Best wishes as you move through the challenge emoticon

I never consider myself as a stressful eater, but last week found myself grabbing an ice cream bar and more...after a stress situation. I never noticed that beffore...

Jackie I'm a Halloween baby but many years ago.

5'1.5" - I shrunk from 5'4"
Summer: Minesota
Winter: Arizona (as of Dec. '08)

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

I quit smoking over 25 years ago, and remember I chewed alot of gum and did gain about 10 lbs. But it doesn't have to be cigarettes; this past weekend I did ALOT of damage to myself by eating all kinds of chocolate (yeah, Easter didn't help much). I was stressed and depressed about a certain personal situation, but now it's Monday, time to put it behind me and get back on track. emoticon

And may I just say, I still remember how HARD it was to quit smoking and STAY that way; I remember quitting several times before it finally stuck. This too shall pass. I wish you the best. emoticon

Now that the weather is getting nicer, perhaps we will find it easier to go
outside, for a walk, and some fresh air...
I find that serves to relieve my stress !

Why not? Instead of shouting "I need a cigarette!" shout "I need a SPROUT!" There ya go! It even rhymes emoticon

I really appreciate all your help. The problem is I knit, crochet, bead and do counted cross stitch as well as read and spend time on the internet. I haven't found anything I can't put down to feed my face. I am going to try the water, short walks (that's all I can do right now) and trying to distract myself. I have been cooking a bunch of brussel sprouts and keeping them in the refrigerator so when I am going crazy I can just grab a couple of those. That is just how crazy I get but it seems too work and add vegetables to my diet. I also used to shout "I need cigarette" and it would all go away.

Do something (non food related) with your hands and your mouth. Reading a book. Crocheting (or knitting) Making something for someone else's need. You can do it!

I have never smoked in my life, but since I have been out of work, I seem to wander around and just eat anything in sight. I think it is boredom and frustration over not having a job in my case.

Cheers

Quit in 04 still at times I have the urge,I find that a glass of water works for me. The hand to mouth thing I guess. A friend has a tooth pick in his mouth all the time. Hope this helps.

Will try this. Anything, sometimes it is so bad I find myself stuffing my face and don't remember where I got the food.

I quit smoking about 12 years ago so I do know those urges. I also get worked up when there are stresses or situations that I can not fix or control. When they get bad, I go for a short walk, play video games, work on a craft, find an old music video on the computer and rock out and if all else fails, get a hard candy. Does not work every time, but if I distract myself, it makes the duration shorter and less damaging.

I discovered today that what I thought was a sweet tooth is just urges to eat! I didn't have anything sweet and I was going crazy but I had some cooked spinach in the fridge so I ate that (Yes they are that bad). I think this has something with the cigarettes, or lack of them but I quit for four years before and had the same problem. Please, is anyone else going through this? Is there anything I can do? Some days I just walk the house and eat everything in sight.
