It sounds like everyone here is doing just great. emoticon I was M.I.A. part of last week because I got some kind of stomach bug. I didn't throw up but I had a lot of bathroom "runs" and just a general feeling of malaise. The only time of the year that I really reach for ice cream "products" are during the warmer months. However, here in Georgia, that can mean 8 months. LOL. MoodyKeys, have you ever tried the no sugar added Original fudgesicles. I heard about them about 6 years ago and there is always a box in my freezer. They are so chocolatey it is hard to believe they are sugar free.

Since I am also in a fruit n vegetable challenge the month of April, it has really helped me move my hand away from the sugar towards fruit. I have been eating more frozen berries (red cherries, half frozen are fantastic on a bowl of cereal!) as well as finding non-sugar substitutes for when I too feel like "indulging": Two Atkins bars that I like are the chocolate coconut and the caramel chocolate nut bar. The first tastes like a Mounds bar and the second reminds me of a salted nut roll. They do have sugar alcohols but if you have just one per day (when you want something like that) they really do the "trick".

Take care Pam

I went with my family for ice cream last night and didn't order anything. I wasn't tempted I actually didn't want anything. It was a great feeling.

My best replacement snacks so far have been small apples, Blue Diamond roasted almonds and Blue Diamond Blueberry almonds. Also, sugar-free jello helped me avoid cookies. emoticon emoticon

near end of week three. been doing great. I have to go to the doctors today for blood pressure and blood taken to check levels of sodium, etc. I guess they will weigh me. don't like to get weighed, sometimes get disappointed at the scale when I am working so hard to be good. we will see wish me luck. have a great day towards your goal.

Into week three and am being VERY mindful and alert. Cravings are minimal; even for chocolate which is a welcome surprise.
I am finding replacement snacks for low blood sugar that bring my levels back up to normal without using sugar: skim milk, orange juice and long-lasting things like string cheese. If I absolutely have to, I'll use glucose tablets for fast-acting carbohydrates.
It's hard, but I can do it thanks to all you guys and SP.

Joyfully keeping on...keeping on!

start of week three. doing good on sugar . guess you could say had a little fall. I had a couple spoons of vanilla ice cream with more banana on it then ice cream. satisfied myself as I watched my hubby eat a banana split. I think I did really good since ice cream is one of my big down falls for warmer weather so I have to start now to down size that to next to nothing and be good with it. that is if we ever get warm weather instead of snow. lol.

About one week into this "Official Tame Your Sweet Tooth Challenge" I decided to join the "Official 30-Day 'Fit Food' Challenge" too.

Success in both challenges thus far (:

I really enjoy the articles linked to the "Official Tame Your Sweet Tooth Challenge."

and

The meal and snack ideas linked to the "Official 30-Day 'Fit Food' Challenge" are like 90% delicious. Of the 20+ "Official 30-Day 'Fit Food' Challenge" recipes I have eaten so far I have only come across like 2 recipes that I really didn't care for. All the rest of the recipes have been A+.

Week #3 was very interesting. I don't use sugar at all (unless it comes in food naturally), my husband is an insulin dependant type II diabetic, it is very scary. I believe he IS addicted to sugar, i buy him Splenda, all he drinks is diet coke (never water). I think even artificial sweeteners cause him to still want sweets. The info for week #3 was definitely a great read!

Yesterday, I gave in and had a snack bar, and it had more sugar than I needed, though I stayed within my calorie range, it made me want more sugar today. Tomorrow starts my 4th week, I don't crave the sweets as much now, but I do have an occassional slip. Especially when I am bored. BOREDOM is bad!.

I hope I finish off better than this last week (two days). emoticon

Hello, my name is Laura, I am a sugar addict. Week 3 I am in better shape with sugar but only after a mighty struggle to stay very aware/conscious of my relationship with this demon :). I have it at bay by staying aware, staying away, MANAGING MY STRESS, filling up on other things, focusing on my goals and reminding myself that I can choose something else.

I have not had any cravings this week. I was not feeling well yesterday, did very light work, but mostly rested. Didn't crave anything. Same this morning, not sugar cravings.
So far so good.

Yesterday, I got a call that 29-year-old horse was on the ground and wouldn/t/couldn't get up. I thought he was going to have to be put down. As you might expect, I was in a bit of a panic. A couple hours later I was told that he was back on his feet. Relief washed over me and along with it came the urge for a candy bar. Instead I bought a pack of sugar-free gum.

The cravings are becoming less now. I find I crave the healthy "sweets" over the cookies and ice cream. I just have to take it one day at a time.

I am on week 3 now and I still crave some sweets but I am able to replace the cravings with fruit or yogurt. The triggers are less and that helps a lot. I did get bored last night and almost grabbed something sweet to eat but resisted..I think it is going to get better by the 4th week.

Just starting Week 3. I'm surprised at how little I crave sweets. I think a big part of it for me is to make sure I eat my healthy snacks between meals to keep from getting too hungry. When I get to hungry is when I crave sweets, salt and carbs.

I had a few off weeks. I'm ready to start week 3. I have had 2 great days withoug sweets. But tonight I have enough points for a bit of chocolate with coffee. Tea helps me also if I crave bad sweets.

Okay, I'm ready to tackle week 3. I've got a bowl full of fruit on the counter and some small pieces of dark chocolate. I plan to enjoy the chocolate (1-2 pieces) in the evening with a cup of tea if I have cravings; I'll skip it if not.

Well Valentines day wasn't a total bust, didn't eat a whole box of candy in one sitting! Last night had a bowl of ice cream but that will have to be my last one before I eat the whole container. Denial don't work for me, but yummy fruit and yogurt are a favorite sugar swap.

This is my first day of week 3. At church today, we did a Jesus Loves You activity with the youth ministry. Red velvet cupcakes were served with cream cheese frosting. They looked good, but I did not touch one of them.

Hurray for me. emoticon

I had chocolate today. I made sure it was 85 percent cocoa. Usually I would crave the whole bar, but I had a small piece and I was okay with that, much to my surprise! I'm having trouble finding cereal that is sugar free? The only thing I could find is cooked cereal. I am gluten free also so is it is doubily hard to find? Does anyone have any ideas? emoticon

I'm doing okay on my third week. I went to church last night and everyone was eating cake with whipped cream after service. It sure looked good, but i resisted, I was the only one that didn't have it. It was all around me but i ate almonds and an orange and a few apple slices. I remembered how I felt before on sweets and how they made me feel sick. Also I am gluten free so I have to be extra careful. So glad I resisted, it was hard though I can't say it was easy.

You seem to be doing really well. Keep up the good work. I haven't been having the cravings for sweets. I've started having a potion of nuts or soy ute which I found I like very much, high in fiber and protein, but I measure them out 1/4 cup is 130 calories. I also find I'm eating less at meals these snacks fill me up and I don't have a great hunger at meal time. I hope every is having a good day. emoticon

So far so good have made some good swaps, like having an apple for my 3:00 snack when I am craving chocolate. Have noticed the craving backing off a bit. Also, start making banana "ice cream" using frozen bananas with a few tbsp of dark chocolate chips. This has really helped with the after dinner cravings, and it tastes awesome!. Noticed also something pretty cool, since I have been more mindful of my sugar intake, i'm not feeling hungry constantly. I actually have been waiting for my stomach to let me know when it needs food rather that my brain. This has never happened to me before.

Sounds like you are doing very well Nancy. Good job!!!!!
Keep up the good work my friend. As for myself I am having to watch the sauces.
Definitely learning better swaps on snacks that aren't chocolate covered.
Fruits are really good. Strawberries and oranges ect.
Also watching the substitute sweetener is also important.
Those calories also add up. Time for me to move to week 4.
Hope that you guys have a great day!!! Holly emoticon

First day of week 3 it's going well. No urges to eat sweets, kept myself busy that seems to be a big help. Turned down desert tonight and didn't miss it. I'm trying to focus on eating more protein and fiber.

I am having an okay third week, trying to learn all i can about sugar and what it does to you. I decided i would try chocolate again i looked for an 85 percent but all i could find was 70 percent cocao. Well to my amazement is didn't taste all that good. I thought fruit tastes sweeter than this. I ate a small piece, and didn't have a reaction to it. But I thought i don't want to get attached to this and than become a need. So I don't think I will have it for a while.

Thanks, Mama-to-Five, I do like carrots. Pears are okay, not fond of the texture, but they are an option I kind of forgot about. They would be a change from apples.

How bout veggies? Raw carrots are seasonal and easy to take with you. I think radishes are beginning to come back into season too. Do you like pears at all?

Fruit this time of the year is a challenge. I'm not a big fan of citrus, oranges once in a while and lemons and limes for cooking. I eat a lot of apples and bananas as well as some dried fruits, prunes and raisins.
Any suggestions or help?

Thanks, Mary

Feel I'm doing OK with sugar swaps. When I have sugar I don't feel guilty because I'm eating far more healthily.

I don't bust my cravings as such. I'll make an active decision re if I really want the thing I'm craving. Usually I find i don't

And I like greek yogurt

I'm still doing pretty well. I bought a big bag of cuties (clementines), and they're so nice and sweet they satisfy my cravings.

I know why it happend. I was celebrated finishing my 4th and final AC treatment for cancer. We went out to eat afterwards and I had dessert. I got SO SICK! I couldn't do anything that evening! Lesson learned!

I'm here to get healthier just one day at a time!

Well I was going good up until yesterday. I have been wanting an ice cream and avoiding the ice cream. Yesterday, I just gave in. I got the smallest size hoping to make minimal damage, but it still cost me.

The good news. I don't want the ice cream any more. I think I just had to get it out of my head. Now I can go back to my grapes emoticon

One day at a time.
