I too love sugar and am on the road of cutting back. I decided not to replace with artificial sweeteners - health is my main reason for making a change and I'm not sure that something fake is any healthier for me. I think each person has to find what replacement food will be satisfying to them. When I crave sugar I usually need to just do something else to get my mind thinking differently. One time I read to just tell myself I'd have it later. That seems to help - later is somehow easier to adjust to than "never again". The snack I often fall back on is popcorn. I make my own with coconut oil in the microwave and truly love it.

I find I still want something sweet after supper but the longer I work on not eating sweets/cookies on an hourly basis, the easier it is to walk away from them and eat something that won't pack on the pounds and the bad feelings afterwards. I'm a huge fan of finding alternative foods and there is a lot of low calorie staples/snacks/desserts to help when you feel you just have to have something! Good luck - it sounds like you are on the right track!!!

Chocolate chip cookies are hard to resist!!! I love them. I gave them up, but I still get cravings. Will the cravings subside as more time goes on?

That's awesome!!! Good for you :). I've had my hand on the cookie jar more than once, for sure, and it's great to know you conquered the cookie, which is NO small feat!!! Hooray for you!!!

I made the note on my nutrition tracker page. It helped. Yesterday I had my hand on the oatmeal chip cookie container 3 times at least and I made myself walk away and find something better for me to eat. I recorded it on my note. I wasn't even hungry! I was just craving something sweet and crunchy... I finally got a Fiber One bar (oats and chocolate)
It did the trick! sweet, crunchy, chocolate. and 10 g. fiber to fill me!
Today, I didn't have much trouble. When I got a case of the "sweet" munchies this afternoon, I got a rice cake and spread about 1/2 Tb. Nutella on it. (sweet, crunchy, chocolate)
I still haven't nailed down what makes me crave it. But I do know a couple ways to satisfy it with a healthy choice. I also have celery with PB 'with' my lunch today... but really just kept the plate handy and grabbed one when I needed to crunch something for the next hour or so.
I have discovered that planning ahead really is the key. And now that I know what it is that I really am craving, it's easier to plan for.

Good goal! Keep pushing! emoticon

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.

Mistakes are the portals of discovery.

Don't be afraid to give your best at what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Instead of a carrot, try plain nonfat yogurt - my favorite is Fage with fresh or frozen blueberries, cantaloupe and or strawberries. When you want something tasty, if a carrot isn't cutting it, find something that will. Carrots, unless cooked, don't ever cut it for me, so I find something else that does. Hope that helps and good luck! Let me know what you find that is tasty, I'm always looking for new foods that will satisfy!!!

Besides my planned sugar intake, it's the hidden sugar, and sodium, in food I'm trying to be careful to avoid.

I'm hanging out on this week for a while!
I just can't make a carrot sound good when I'm craving a cookie. I haven't journaled about my sweet cravings yet. I am journalising everything that I eat on the nutrition tracker... maybe if I put it on the note at the bottom of the page that would work... thinking out loud here =)
That's what I'll do this week!

Hello, it's a challenge, but you can do it! My biggest sugar fix was M&M candies, and choc. chip cookies. It took a while to detox from these sweets, but now I snack on sugar free candy and sugar free jello. Cutting down on refine sugar such as cookies, etc. worked for me. I wish you luck..keep up the good work. hang in there.

Hi Everyone,

My goal is to work on reducing my sugar intake near the RDI level (50g or less of sugar each day).
