It's so good to see other positive experiences. I'm not really being a purist. I am trying to stay off white sugar and white flour. However, I want to be a realist and know that staying off these two things 90 - 95% of the time is so much better than having it in your diet multiple times a day! I figure one time once or twice a week is a success for me. And, I'm not even treating it as an indulgence. The one time once or twice a week is only if I'm in a situation (out with friends, at a friend's house, a student brings me something, etc.) where it would be a little awkward saying no. So, if I'm not around those situations in a given week, then that's one more success.

I have finished week number One! For the most part I have done very well.
When I want sweets, I have fruit and it has worked. On day 6, I ate a bit of
carmel mix-prepackaged with apple slices. I craved the combination, but
also enjoyed the delicious snack.

Writing in my journal is very helpful to keep me aware of everything that I
crave or eat.

I am on day 3 I guess. I think I'm doing okay, but I'm not attempting to be a purist? I'm trying to avoid refined sugar and cut back on other types of sugar/refined carbs. Is everyone else trying to go 100%?

Sounds like you are doing great! I am on day 4 of week 1 (I think) and am doing well staying away from sugar. Ate some flour today but got back on track and feel good this evening. I am so grateful to be here, taking steps towards a healthier life and weight. Glad you are all here too! emoticon

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.

Mistakes are the portals of discovery.

Don't be afraid to give your best at what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

These small victories add up, so don't under-celebrate. Good Job! I am facing two huge trays of cookies in our breakroom today. Unfortunately, I can see them every time to go to the photocopier. Someone might get mad, but I moved them so I couldn't see them!!

I am on day 4 of week one and I don't know if I am sabotaging myself or challenging myself, but my hobby is cake decorating and well, I'm making a cake for my friend. On the plus side I washed the batter bowl before I could lick it clean and I haven't had too many cake scraps. I better go to bed soon!!

Nice work! I am trying an approach to weight loss that I never have--just monitoring feelings and times that I eat sugar to see if I can find a pattern. I have done this for almost a week, and notice that I too want sugar in the evenings. However, three o'clock seems a common time too. Next week I am going to try to abstain. I hope I have your commitment!

Well, I would consider Week 1 a success. I stayed away from candy all week and almost everything with white sugar. I used substitutions all week. I usually crave sweets in the evenings, but ate a baked apple whenever the craving was strong. Went on a road trip this weekend, and we usually have some type of snack in the car. I did take along carrots and trail mix. My boyfriend bought some Laffy Taffy's, but I did not eat a single one. This was my first week actively on SparkPeople, tracking my food, and doing the Sweet Tooth Challenge, and I lost weight, so I think this week was successful.

Are there any other success stories out there?
