So, for someone like me who has done a Whole30, the highest level 21-Day Sugar Detox is essentially a Whole21 stripped of fruit and starches? That sounds like exactly what I need to do.

I finished my Whole30 a week ago and I've been testing out dairy (I already know that the black bean and brown rice routine I had going before I heard about paleo was tearing me up inside... no more of that, thanks.) I've been attacking the flavored coffee with vengeance (and Truvia) but I know I need to kick my sweet tooth again. This sounds like exactly the thing for me! Thanks for posting it.

Thanks BOOKWRMB. I was confused there for a bit as I thought dairy was okay. That must be one of the differences between Paleo and Primal. I lean more towards the Primal plan. I have read some of Mark's Daily Apple, just need to go back and study his ideas and get some recipes. I have a book coming in the mail that I had ordered. Can hardly wait. Julia

There are some free Primal recipes on Mark's Daily Apple (marksdailyapple.com). Also, you can Google for low carb recipes and choose among them those that are also dairy free if you choose to go dairy free. (If you can get fresh-from-the-farm milk, cream, and butter that has not had any processing done on it and if you are not casein sensitive or lactose intolerant, dairy can be a nutrient-rich food with a definite place in your diet. Dairy is OK but not essential on Primal, but not approved on Paleo. You choose according to your own self experimentation.) www.marksdailyapple.com/#axzz1soZgrY

The info about the levels is in the program. Basically, level one is for people who are currently eating the SAD. It is mostly paleo, but allows full fat dairy and *certain* legumes and grains. Level two is the next step. It drops all legumes and grains, but still allows full fat dairy. Level three is a full on paleo diet with no dairy.

None of the plans allow any sugar other than one green tipped banana or green apple per day.

Level three is similar to the Whole30 program, but that program doesn't restrict fruit, sweet potatoes, or winter squash.

If you are new to ancestral eating and don't feel like you are ready to give up sugar, then it might not be right for you at this point. However, it is only for 21 days, so it could be a good opportunity to break your addiction and start fresh. The author doesn't recommend never eating healthy sugars again; doing the detox is just a way to get all of it out of your system so you aren't as tempted by them in the long run.

Good luck to you in your ancestral health journey.

I would love to join you buy I am not sure I am quite ready yet. It is more emotionally rather than physically, I think. I am fairly new to primal eating (about 4 weeks) and have cut out breads/wheat/grains/processed foods/starches/unhealthy sugars, etc. I just am not ready to cut out honey and maple syrup yet.

It would be great to understand the process through which you will be doing this. Any recipes to share? I have been kind of winging it as I have been going along, but I think it is time to get serious and really learn what I am doing.

I have gotten involved with some friends who have a CSA business and had my first foraged greens last night for supper. I decided I could never go back to boring lettuces or processed foods ever again. Just eating the food made me feel better.

I would like to support you in your endeavors, but not quite ready to go without sweets yet. Where do you find the information for these different levels? Good luck with this and hopefully you will find a spark friend who can take this journey with you. Take care. Julia

There is a new 21 Day Sugar Detox starting on May 1 and I decided to give it a try. I already eat an ancestral diet, but I've noticed a lot more "healthy" sugar options (honey, maple syrup, dried fruit, coconut sugar, etc.) and "safe starches" (potatoes, white rice, fermented legumes, soaked grains, etc.) slipping back into my diet and I think that could be the reason I've seen my weight loss stop. None of those things are necessarily problematic once in a while, but they've been appearing with greater frequency, so I think it's time to try sweeping them all out for a while and get back to basics.

I'll be doing Level 3 since I'm not new to these dietary concepts, but there are two lower levels for people who are still eating lots of processed foods and who are new (or newer) to the concept of ancestral eating.

If anyone else is interested, I'd love to have some support on the journey (unfortunately the only support available through the program is via facebook and I don't really want to air my dietary struggles publicly).
