I am just happy not to have to take those diabetic meds. I was taken off them the day I left the hospital from the surgery in Dec 17, 2012 and haven't been on them since. YAY!

emoticon no rain though it has been forecast for several days...therefore DH on ride with disabled Vet and I am hanging the laundry on the clothesline Currently 2 loads on the line and another in the washer . After a beautiful day in the high 70's yesterday temperature is now down to 50F today and thunderstorms

we poured concrete into cylinders for footings yesterday... today it is raining...so very glad we did them yesterday
housework today while it is raining...glad we burned off some branches last night and I potted up more of my seedlings and plants.

Look who came to visit our yard today...Cuddles spied it from our French Doors and had to go out and take a look! Cuddles discovered a Blandings turtle in our yard this morning!

The last few days we have had so many birds visiting our yard or flying over it that include: lots of robins, mated cardinals, goldfinch, blue jay, bald eagle, herons, chickadee, song sparrow, cedar waxwings, heard a catbird or a mocking bird, a little blackbird don't know what it was, and the blue birds are nesting. We have more birds than the aviary around the lakes in Minneapolis! Anyone interested in birding should love Anoka County!

So far 2 dozen daffodils have bloomed plus all my forsythia bushes! Happy Mothers Day! emoticon

Taking your self off pills without telling the doctor is not wise. To often they think we want a quick fix instead of the root problem figured.
After Open heart surgery a lot of us needed antidepressant's. The Information did not come from the doctors.
Look up your symptoms or what they started out being. Just having an educated guess helps the doctor realize you are involved with your health.

Somewhere along the line the pharmaceutical companies have turned into big business for our physicians! I was once given a med for my Fibromyalgia which caused confusion, loss of memory, falling, staggering. I saw my Neurosurgeon several weeks after back surgery and she noticed my change right away. When I told her what I was given, she told me this medication is NOT FDA approved for Fibro, it is a drug for Epilepsy and I need to stop taking it ASAP!!
Recently my PA gave me an RX for ADD something I do NOT and have never had to help improve my loss of memory, keep me on track! In 5 days, I have been nauseous, dizzy and so jittery I thought I would chip a tooth getting a drink of water!
I am a medical Anomaly and the docs know there is something going on with me, just not, so they think the answer is more pills or expensive tests I don't need like sleep study. I sleep perfectly sound when I sleep, the problem is I am a night owl and stay up late...study that and we figure things out...

every day there a new drugs & items...but one must weigh the cost...i.e. every drug has side effects and most of them are worse than the original problem...somewhere along the line the oath to do no harm has been lost.

I have cooked down the carcass and de-boned it. emoticon the meat is in the freezer and the stock is cooling outside so I can remove the fat layer. then the stock will be stored in the freezer for future use. We don't try to eat it all day after day but spread it out and enjoy it in various ways. emoticon The tree & decorations are now up too! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

emoticon Weight loss on insulin and post menopause is difficult. But, if slow and steady win the race we'll get there. Just make yourself get up and move. I use a cordless phone and walk while I talk. When I shop, I park far out and walk in to the shops. I also exercise in 10 minute bursts. It all add up over time.

Love the rabbits CATSNKT. I have several wild bunnies in my back yard and enjoy watching them.
I am losing weight a lot slower than I would like,but feel I am on the right road. Exercise is the key and that is where if fall down the most! Got to hop up and get to it...

Vacation Just so you do not think I forgot you. We (Husband and I) are going on vacation. Wish me good eating.

Land lord is not my favorite job but as for now it is my only job.

Dialup means no communication for a week or more.
No I did not give up or drop out. Just a week away from this home.
Will miss the furry friends. we do not take them to the coast. Yamhill may be.

I just got home Friday after being away for 2 weeks. While I was away I was vigilant about my diet, tried to keep up with my exercise and to make healthy choices. My blood sugar was stable the whole time. Today I noticed I have spiked twice since I've been home. Neither was very high, but I realized I need to be careful to maintain my routine the time.

My fall plans continue: I took tomato cuttings and hydrangea cuttings and hope to create new plants, shopping for the holidays...gifts and meals, cleaning up the gardens & yard for winter, the umbrellas & chairs are now in the garage.

emoticon Good Morning Team...
I am sore BUT not as sore as I would imagine after so much time in the last two days working outside.guess while I am using muscles I usually don't use I am kinda like a car and burning away the carbon from my system..and while I enjoy being in my gardens I really want to get to the gym and in the pool for some nice less impact on my body exercise. Have a lot of tree branches to deal with emoticon before I do that.

Our felling trees is just the end result of insects, disease as secondary causes of drought for years. Trees become attractive to both when stressed and drought is a stressor. Check my page to see my windbreak...I removed two pines that grew between my black hills spruce and blue spruce.
I hope to put a fairy house, or two in their place and move some hostas there to make a shade glen.

Hi week 8. I got my new bike all together today. We got 6 in. Of rain so I rode around in the yard. Its been a long time since I rode bike. Its fun. emoticon

I still have 8 pounds to lose and hope I can do it in 8 weeks but I kind of don't think so. I have no trouble sticking to the program, in fact I can't eat more than 1100 cals per day but I think maintenance cals for me must be about 1200.

Linda I agree a salad is much easier now than fries. I feel if I don't have a salad at least once a day I am missing something. I believe I have gotten over my exercise sidetrack and actually want to do something now.

I want to let you all know what has happened.
On Dec 17, 2012 I had laprascopic Gastric bypass and when I left the hospital I was no longer on my Diabetic meds. The day before surgery I weighed in at 253.4. I now weigh in at 202.4.
I have been getting used to my new way of eating and doing things. The pouch teaches fast.

I continue to interact with this team and track the team goals since finishing my 8 week challenge in February. The weight is still slowly coming off. I am down to a fraction of the diabetes medications that I used to take. Coming down off the meds is a bit scary. The doctor has be being very attentive to the amount of glypizide with each meal, depending on the expected carb count.

Based upon the glycemic load information that was supplied to us through the educational articles, I've joined a new SP team: Glycemic Index - Low GI Lifestyle. Its just starting out and they are welcoming new members. There is a TON of information on the team site. Check it out!!!

Did you know that there are 34 SP teams just for low carbers??? I was surprised. There are plenty of options so that everyone can find a couple of teams to support us with healthy carb choices for diabetes management.

emoticon I am also off my meds, with the weight lost, the dr was so happy! Said that I made her day. She had being telling her patients all their ills and I came in with the good blood report and weight lost. Glad I was able to make someone's day and mine great. I plan to keep up the good work. Have lost another 6 pounds since I saw her before Christmas.

Lord, bless my diet buddies and help me met my 2014 weight goals of 60 pounds.

Hello everyone, I hope that all is going well. I have lost not only a little over 30 pounds since December-I do not take my diabetic meds anymore. I had my surgery in December and when I left the hospital I was no longer on diabetic meds.
I still do my fasting blood sugars, but, all is going well. I am still getting used to my little pouch that I have-instead of a regular full size stomach. But, it has been great with the benefits!

Hi everyone!
I joined SP back in 2011, got started...then just stopped! I've been a type 1 diabetic for over 50 years and am on an insulin pump. My most recent A1C was 6.3. I check my blood sugar level 6-8 times a day and sometimes more. I'm currently having eye problems that keep my physical activity down, but am still able to do some. I've come back to SP because I let myself get depressed and started eating in an unhealthy manner so now I need to relearn these principles so that I will eat healthy foods and loose weight. So far I've lost 8.8 pounds since around jan. 16th (I think)...so I feel positive and I'm enjoying being back on this site and I'm also (slowly) reading The Spark...I can do this, I have a goal, and I'm happy! Can't ask for too much more!!! emoticon

I'm doing well I've lose 10 pound since I have started SP my 3 month blood work is at 5.5. That great and I cut out mindless snacking. I brought a FItBIT and working on walking more so far I've walked a 2048 steps is my max. I'm now weight 185.

I started insulin almost a year ago for my type 2. My A1C is down to 5.9!!!! I am down 20 pounds and have been focusing on cooking more at home, eating at least 3 servings of fruit and 3-4 servings of veggies (non starch) Thanks SP for helping to succeed on this journey!!!
