Surgery went well and I have to be on crutches for a while and he does not want me to put weight on it. I will see him either Tuesday or Wednesday. I will have to call his office and then I will know what day and time I will see him. I do have a boot too. Not very stable with the crutches and put the foot down for some stability but no weight on it.

If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing. But when you say yes to Him, all of heaven opens to pour out His goodness and reward your obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit.

Hi all,
Late checking in here...busy day.
Rick...glad you can slow down a bit today. Although I think like me, your 'slow' is still pretty productive!

Talked to my mom this afternoon and my dad is still having some heart episodes (he's still in the hospital) but they can't figure out what is causing them. Last night they thought is was from having to change out his heart and bp medications over the past two weeks. If he stabilizes, then they will release him some time tomorrow. If not, they may have to send him down to Green Bay for more tests. My mom is tired but she did go home to sleep last night and she was planning to do the same tonight. So...we'll just see what tomorrow brings and keep praying that if there is something to be found, they will find it.

My son's soccer game this morning was amazing. We should have had 8 players (our team is 10 total) today, but no idea why 2 others didn't show up. So my DH (coach) only had 6 players today. The other coach agreed to play 6 players at a time, but he rotated his 10 in and out. All I can say is that those 7, 8 and 9 year olds played their hearts out! They all made amazing plays during the game and they just kept attacking the other team's goal. They scored twice, but the other team not only didn't score, they spent very little time on our end of the field. Our team was tired at the end from constant running and playing, but they were all so proud of what they accomplished!
It was a great start to the day.

This afternoon my DH built our compost box so tomorrow we'll start hauling yard waste down to get it started. And so excited to be composting again! I had to leave before they were all done because I had to go find/buy a pair of black dress pants. Most of my clothes are not fitting well anymore and when I teach K/1st Sunday school at church I don't like to wear skirts because I'm doing so many activities with them. Anyway...the search for basic black dress pants has been difficult at best for me. Apparently all the sizing has changed in women's clothing because even though I know I'm not a size 8 anymore, that's what I had to buy today. Maybe it's all the 'stretch' materials? I hate shopping anyway...so this was such a chore for me...but I probably got in an extra couple thousand steps because of it today...LOL!

I am back to using my pedometer so I'm tracking steps again to try to stay active even on days I don't feel very well, or like I can't work out.
My smoothie today was spinach, orange, banana and kiwi...I ended up making two because the kids wanted to try it and my DH had a bit too. They all just sort of gazed at the green smoothie at first, but after they all tried it they agreed it was good! If they start drinking them too I'll have to keep planting lettuces all summer to keep up!

Time for bed...look forward to checking in with you all tomorrow.

Morning all,

Sunny and warm today, mid 80's expected.

Deni, glad to hear it is not shingles and it is wonderful your Doc works well with you. Prednisone is a wonderful drug if used properly and in moderation. and if you don't have to use all the better. Unfortunately or fortunately for me, it saved my life, but with a high price.

Cathy, hope all your tests went well.

Melissa, fortunately the help was a great deal of help, I think now that the bulk of the work is caught up I can handle the rest on my own except for a few instances when I may need an extra hand.
As far as my mower, it would cost around 4000$ to replace it, and I can fix it for a couple hundred, It's just frustrating that several things go bad at once.

I think today I am just going to take it slow and just get done what I can at a slower pace. Got a lot done yesterday so I think I can afford to take it easy today.

Dog lesson this morning, then we need to go look for a new canopy. Ours got damaged in the winds at the last dog show. Then we might go to a movie if there is time.

Ordered my package for SRD (State Recognition Days) for TOPS and made my hotel reservations. It is at the end of May in Santa Clara, just down the road from where I had my heart surgery.

Hope everyone has a great day!
Rick

Morning All,

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. This is my first flare and the doc says its one of the worst she has seen. My face and upper body is covered with red blotches and swollen. She wanted to put me on prendsone but I will not take it. Thats OK with her but it will take longer to get better. Thats better then the meds. Glad I have a doc that works with me and she respects my decisions I make.

Melissa sorry about your Dad. Waiting to hear about him when you can and prayers are going his and your way.

Cathy thanks for all the info its been very helpful. I agree with Melissa you are a good friend and prayers his way and yours.

Rick that shingles sounds bad. Glad mine wasn't that. Just have to get through this flare. Doc says about 2 weeks.

Gotta run getting tired. Have a great Saturday Deni emoticon

Hi all,
Late check in for me too.
Deni...I am so sorry to hear about your flare up. That is not good at all. But it is better than shingles. Rest, rest, rest and we'll all send healing prayers your way.

Cathy...glad your friend is ok...so good of you to go and help him like that.

Rick...time for a new mower? Hopefully that's the only thing your helper cuts down! I'm sure he feels bad. Hopefully he's helping out more than making more work for you.

My kids had off school today so they pretty much lazed around this morning and then this afternoon we met up with friends at a local park for a play date. I hadn't seen the other family for over a year because they had moved and gone through a lot, but finally things have settled down for them. Good to reconnect. I haven't had time to buy new sunscreen yet for this year so what I put on today did not work very well and I'm sorry to report that I got burned a little bit today.

Time to run...just got a message that my dad is in the hospital again. I'll update tomorrow ;)

Afternoon all,

Just a quick check n for me, it is currently about 78 degrees out and is suppose to get to 90 this weekend,

I've got a lot done the past dew days but still and have mower problems and water leaks. Seems I fix one leak and another pops up.

Having a lot harder time getting around with the way my knee is as well as with my feet feet, mine are giving me a hard time as well. I have orthodics I got through the V.A. which seemed to work well at first but I still can't be on my feet too long before they start hurting. I also had special shoes made but ended up with the same problem. I can't walk barefooted either. It feels like I'm walking on marbles, if you can imagine that.
All I can do is grin and bear it, take rests when I need to and keep going. Maybe one day they'll come up with something that works.

Deni, I have had shingles but it was like 30 years ago, I remember it not being fun. Especially the area I had them in, I had to lay on my stomach with nothing on except these patches soaked in the medication for several days.

Well I need to get back outside, The guy helping accidentally cut up a native plant he wasn't suppose to. I'm going to try to pot some of the larger branches. Hopefully the branches will sprout roots and I can replant them once roots are established.

Have a good afternoon all,

Rick

Hi all
Deni, sorry you are having a flare. And it does make you very tired and kind of foggy in the head. At least that's how I feel. The best thing is to just rest. So glad it's not the shingles. Did you ever have your Vitamin D and B12 levels checked?

Had some lab work done this morning for my new doc. Hopefully all will be well. Have a few errands to do this afternoon so better get moving.

Enjoy your Friday

The sun is out and it's getting warmer! Shhh, don't say it too loud! LOL

Hello
My friend called last night and said the new pain med was working and he was doing well. He thanked me for all the help as he was really needing it. He said he understood a lot more of what I go through all the time with pain....trying to deal with the day to day chores, shopping etc. that need to be done and in just trying to take care of yourself. Deni, yes this is the same guy who was sick in the winter. He has been in the hospital before from diabetic comas...had no food and couldn't get himself out to shop. I had told him to call the deli right across the street where he goes all the time to deliver him some food but he was embarrassed that they would see him like he was. emoticon

Most of the ideas about getting rid of the bugs I find on Facebook....the ideas are natural, made from everyday products that are nontoxic. When I find more, I will pass them on. But when I lived in Florida we had the inside and outside sprayed as the bugs down there are relentless. There were bugs called Palomino bugs that looked like roaches and I think they really were but people just called them Palomino bugs. They came out at night and they were huge and gross. I slept with a light on in the bedroom because most of the time the lights kept them away but not always and I would wake up to find them in my bed or near the bed and it would freak me out.

I had heard that shingles can hurt a lot and is like a burning feeling. Glad you are seeing the doc tomorrow. Hope that is not what you have...maybe just an allergic reaction? pollen or poison ivy? Have you been outside?

Cathy

Good Day All'

Cathy thanks for the tip on the ants. Dale and I are going to spring clean the kitchen this Sunday so wll try the whitw line and let you know how things work out. Sorry for your friend and hope he feels better soon. Is this the same guy that was ill this last winter that you went to see? Prayers his way.

Melissa, I remember when I lived in Fla. we had bugs many many bugs. I was expecting my first child and had to have the apt sprayed before he was born. Was so afraid I would come get up in the night to check on him and a bug would be in his crib. The spray people did good. We had no bugs.Hope you get rested today.

Its cloudy again and much cooler this morning. This weater is wierd!! Never know what you get in New England.

Anyone know what shingles is like? I have red blotches on my face and it is swollen and my eyes feel swollen also. It hurts. I see the rhemy doc on Friday maybe she can help. We'll see.

Gotta run Have a good one Deni emoticon

Hi all,
Busy here so I'm just now checking in. A lot of curve balls thrown my way in the last 24 hours so hopefully I can rest tomorrow and regroup.

Living in the South we have all kinds of bugs all the time. And we live on 3 acres of woods so we probably have at least 10 different kinds of ants on the property. I have not tried the baby powder trick but will try that...thanks Cathy! Here, everyone has a pest control provider of some kind. I have an Orkin contract and the house gets sprayed inside and out every month. In between times I am constantly vacuuming up dead bugs along outside walls where they thought they could creep in, but only to their demise. I should look into some all natural options for inside the house, but usually we don't have problems other than the random spider or rogue ant or scorpion as the case may be down here. We are battling carpenter bees and wasps again this spring on the exterior so hopefully we'll win that quickly. Good luck Deni and let us know what works!

I'm too pooped to do any more so I'm off to bed and will try to post more tomorrow!
:)

Hello all
Spent the last 2 days helping a friend down in Mass that hurt his back while at work. He was in horrible pain, drove himself to the hospital, they did send him home but had him on so many meds he couldn't drive, so he took a cab home. The meds didn't seem to be helping and he couldn't even get up to walk, so I did some grocery shopping for him, fed the cats, did a little picking up and got some food for him as he is also diabetic and hadn't eaten for more than a day. Today, I brought him to his docs, got some different meds, was still in some pain and insisted that he would be fine and wanted drive his car back home from the hospital. I had to get back up to NH to watch my niece as she had an early release day from school. So I had to leave him sitting in his car in the hospital parking lot, in pain, waiting for the new pain meds to kick in....stubborn! But he did make it home.

It started off cold here this morning, about 38 and now it is 70. I had winter clothes on this morning and by the afternoon, I was sweating.

Deni, I signed up for classes last week. I'm taking 2 classes starting next month for the Summer and then 3 in the Fall. I just read about a natural and simple way to keep ants out of your house. Sprinkle baby powder around the perimeter where they are coming in or use chalk to draw lines around the perimeter. They don't like walking through either one. I haven't had a chance to try it as I don't have ants yet. Let me know if it works if you try it!! I know 1 year I got rid of chipmunks that had gotten in under the mobile unit by putting spearmint or mint oil on cotton balls and placing them underneath the unit. They left and didn't come back. It works for mice too!

Melissa, hope you're feeling better today and not as sore from the outside work.

Rick, I get tired too just reading about all that you do! Where do you get the energy? Sorry about Maggie. Pets are family members and when they're gone they leave an empty spot in your heart.

Got a lot to catch up on
Cathy

Morning All,

Its cloudy and cold this morning but they say it will clear up and be about 70. The rest of the week will be nice and in the 60s. They keep telling us we will have good weather but I think they lie. LOL. We'll see.

Rick glad you got some work done yesterday. Hope all is well.

Not sure what I'll do today. Got the normal house cleaning to do. Would like to start spring cleaning soon but need Dale here to help move furniture and do heavy stuff so it will have to wait for the weekend.

I do have a problem maybe someone would know what to do. I am getting these real small black ants coming in the kitchen. I took everything off the counter and washed it down real good and do that 2 times a day. They still come in. Anyone have any ideas? Has anyone had a problem like this before? Its driving me crazy!!

Must close. Have a good day everyone Deni emoticon

Hi All,

Been CoOping this morning. Had a good morning with my friends. They are full of great advice. Also are good at being supportive. Can't ask for better friends.

The day is cold and cloudy here. I would like to start walking to and back from the CoOp on Tuesdays. Get so cold can't walk yet.

Cathy happy for you that you got your paper work done. Now you'll need to pick classes. Thats the fun part. Glad your feeling better.

Rick glad you have someone to help with the work. You sound like you have a lot to do. Have you heard anything else about your surgery?

Must get going. Best to all Deni emoticon

Evening all,

Whew, it was warm today! Got up to 85, tomorrow is suppose to be warmer.

It has been hard for me to get on the computer in the mornings because I have so much going on with the warm weather plus I have hired some help and he gets here kind of early.
So I thought I'd try posting at night for a while. The only problem I see so far with this is I make a lot of typing errors so I really have to proof read. Fortunately the red underlines help too.

Had our TOPS meeting today. I took my ukelele and we did a song called "Tiptoe Through the Food Store" I'm sure you can guess what tune it was sung to.
Our Area Captain was there today and she did the Real People program and showed some new material. Good meeting and I lost another lb.

I also contacted the vet and told them to cremate Maggie today. We'll take her out and put her in one of her favorite spots on the property. Even with the other dogs, her absence is really noticeable.

Cathy, I remember filling out those forms as well when my daughter went to school, and your right they were a pain in the arm! (misspelled)) But congrats on getting them in.

Dorothy, praying for you for a quick recovery. I have problems with my feet as well. But I've been told I have lost the fat pad on the bottom of my feet so basically I'm walking on bone. I have special shoes that alleviate some of the pain but I can't stand for too long without sitting and taking pain pills

Melissa, I too have cut back on gluten. mainly for the supposed benefits. I had asked my rheumy if going on a gluten free diet would help me and he said there was nothing to indicate I have a problem with gluten but, it certainly wouldn't hurt me to do it if I could stick to it, guess what, I lasted 4 days, so I'm happy just cutting back.

Deni, out weather is kind of weird. It was 33 this morning when I got up at 3:30 and reached 85 by 2:00.

Tomorrow, more yard work, plus I still have this broken water line and tractor to fix. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever get ahead.
In the evening I have band practice. We have a couple more new songs to work on.

Time to hit the hay.

Have good evening and a good day tomorrow!

Rick

Hi all
It's been a busy weekend. My mom just left this morning. She came up and stayed with me and yesterday it was my grandsons 4th Birthday party. We actually had a small party for him on Friday and he opened gifts from the grandparents, my son and DIL. So he had 2 days of parties and gifts, he was very excited.

I'm feeling back to normal and getting things done today. I got my FAFSA (financial) done for college online and it only took 1/2 hour. When my son was 1st going to college back in 99, you had to fill out the forms by hand and if you made a mistake, you had to start over, they didn't allow crossing out, white out etc...then you mailed it in and had to wait to see if it was done properly. If not, you had to do it over. It was frustrating! I had to do that the 4 years he was in college. So filling out the forms online was so quick and easy, I thought I had done it wrong... went back to check it and it was fine. What a relief...wish it was that easy years ago!!

Dorothy, sending prayers for your surgery and healing energy for a quick recovery. I have bone spurs in both heels but they don't bother me all the time. Sometimes they flare up and it's painful to walk for a few weeks but then they calm down. The last flare up was last summer after I had moved to my brothers from Florida.

Melissa, I've cut down on gluten as well, not because I have celiac disease but because I've had some docs and other people tell me that gluten can cause inflammation in your body and auto immune diseases and inflammation go together. I do feel better when I cut down on gluten. Maybe I have a sensitivity to it.

Deni, I am so ready for the weather to get warmer. It's very cold here in the mornings too. It does warm up to the 50's during the day and the sun is out so guess I can't complain.

Gotta get some lunch. Have a marvelous Monday all!
Cathy

Hi all,

Dorothy...do you have anyone who can help out a bit after surgery? At least someone to check in on you each day to make sure you haven't had a problem, or don't need anything? Any idea how long recovery is expected to be? Sending prayers already for a successful surgery and easy recovery.

We did do a Celiac's test for my daughter a few years ago, but it was negative (not that that particular test is all that good anyway) so I've continued to reduce the amount of gluten in general in our diets. I did not eliminate it because I was changing so many other things at the time, I knew I wouldn't get reliable results. It could have been a reaction to the gluten, but it was more likely a reaction to the carbs and sugar in the donut and juice. Either way, we're keeping a food/symptom journal for the next two weeks and tweaking her diet just a bit. And I just emailed her teacher to let her know that she cannot accept any food or candy from anyone at school. The school is awful about using candy/food as rewards for kids so I have to remind teachers that they can't do that with our kids.

I'm a bit sore today from getting the garden in yesterday, but I have plenty of inside chores to do today so I'll have to keep moving. I may have to do a chair cardio workout today to go easy on my knees.

Cool morning here so warming up with a cup of coffee.
Have a great day everyone!

Melissa

Good Morning All,

Dorothy, Sorry to hear about your surgery on Friday. Prayers for a successful surgery with a good outcome. My husband has some bone spurs and his can be painful. Do you go home on the same day or do you stay in hospital?

Melissa hope your daughter is feeling better. Its hard on us mothers when our babys are ill.

Its cold this morning. Its only 23 degrees. Will warm up to 50 this afternoon. We start out with winter coats and shed layers as the day gets warmer. A spring day in northern New England.

Looks like breakfast could be ready. Will talk soon Deni emoticon

Deni, it looked like it would rain today since they said it would but we only got a lite misting from it.

Melissa - so sorry to hear about your daughter but you might want to look to see if she has a problem with wheat. That is also one of the symptoms of wheat problems.

I will not be on the Sparks Friday because I will have surgery on my left ankle to get rid of the bone spurs and then I have to keep my ankle up. I also will be on crutches too. I hate those things but need to stay off the foot. Plus I will be on pain killers so I know that I will not be moving around too much with those things and the pain killers. Might fall and cause more problems for myself.

If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing. But when you say yes to Him, all of heaven opens to pour out His goodness and reward your obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit.

Hi there!
Deni...it is already spring here so I was about a week behind getting everything in. The bad thing about having spring already here is that allergy season is from March through November.
But...we did get our vegetable garden planted today! DH put a fence around it so hopefully the animals will stay out. I am very tired tonight as expected and have some pain, but I should be okay by tomorrow. Busy week ahead again so I'll have to stay on track. My DH is grocery shopping and I am going to try my first green smoothie tomorrow so we'll see how that works ;).

Went to church this morning and the kids had donuts and juice as usual before Sunday school. I dropped my son off at his class and then went to find my DH and DD. Turns out she was having tummy trouble and in the bathroom. So I checked on her and the symptoms she described could have been the flu, a food reaction or hypoglycemia. Either way I had to get her home so we carried her out to the van and I got her home. She was shaking, weak and had an upset stomach. My DH stayed at church with our son and later I called a friend to go pick them up and bring them home. After about an hour and a half she started to feel better and I think it was actually a hypoglycemic reaction to the donut and juice. We'll alter a few things in her diet this week and see what happens. If that doesn't do it, I may have to call the doc and see what else it could be. So glad it isn't the stomach bug!

Time to close and get ready for tomorrow!
Take care,
Melissa
