Have done no exercise for months and was planning to join the gym when the boys were back at school/playgroup, but then got hit by morning sickness. So, have decided to just start some gentle exercise, maybe walking 10 min a day at first and gradually build up, and do something with swimming a few times a week. Need to check the timetable for the local pool for that. Starting tomorrow!

How's everyone doing on the exercising? I've been totally slacking. I stopped going to dance class about a month ago. It's been too hot in that room and my ankles kept swelling up, making things uncomfortable. Plus, I get winded right away now. I've still gone on the occasional walk with my friend, but haven't gone in three weeks due to one or the other of us being out of town or busy. Going to walk tonight--it'll probably be a slow and short walk, but at least it will be exercise. I haven't even done any of the 10-minute prenatal pilates workouts on the DVD I have. I've been running around so much with errands and other things, I just don't have the energy by the time I get home. At least my house has lots of stairs, so I get my exercise just going between floors. I'm always gasping for air by the time I get to the top.

I'm pretty proud of my self for keeping up in my dance class last night. We went through a decently fast-paced 3-min choreography a whole bunch of times. I was breathing pretty hard by the last couple of times we went through it, but I stuck in there and did it!

I did pretty well on the exercise front this week. I've been making a big effort to drink more water and that seems to have helped keep my feet swelling too much this week. I went to my Monday belly dance class and kept up much better than I thought I would. Luckily, we did a lot of more folkloric stuff this week that is more earthy & easier for a big-bellied dancer. The more classical dance moves usually take better balance than I have right now.

Walked with my friend on Wednesday for the first time in a few weeks. I made it two laps around the block = 2 miles! I thought I would only make one lap. It helped that we went slow compared to pre-pregnancy walks, but I still worked some muscle & burned calories.

Last night, I went to my old belly dance teacher's intro class, partly to see her and partly b/c I figured an intro class better matched my current energy level. Though the moves covered were all very basic, it was fun to dance with zills and veil and do some improv, things we don't do in my other class (it's an intermediate techniques class, so different focus). It was hot despite the A/C being on, but I kept moving (even hotter today--up to 105. UGH!!)

Didn't make it to belly dance class last Monday. I was just too tired. And no class this week b/c it's on Labor Day. No walking with my friend either b/c she's been busy taking care of her mom a lot lately. I worked overtime some nights last week, so I was too tired for any additional exercise. Plus, my feet have been swelling a lot and its' been very hot all week.

I did do a ton of walking yesterday at the county fair, though. Probably a little too much walking--my feet ached and my ankle started hurting bad towards the end of the night. I made it out to the parking lot, at least. DH got the car and picked me up.

Since there was no dance class today, I tried out a new pilates DVD that DH downloaded for me. It's a '10 minute solution' prenatal pilates exercise DVD. I did the first 10-minute workout -- 'standing pilates.' The movements themselves were fine, but the pace was a little fast for me in places. I started getting winded. I'd rather do squats and lunges a little slower than the instructor. If I do this one again, I'm going to pause the video and do them at my own pace. The next 10-minute session is 'Core pilates.' Maybe I'll try that one tomorrow.

Nice job with the belly dancing and the regular walking.. even though weather put it off a bit.. I only did walking yesterday and today - 1 mile each day. I think I did two yesterday. Oh, and 10 min. dancing. But I've been extremely tired and it's hard to do much with the hormones zapping me so hard. I took a 2.5 hr nap today and my 5 yr old interrupted me a dozen times. Then the doorbell rang so I got up (as my son was telling him to please come back another time cuz Mommy was sleeping). I told N. to go get him again since I got up. I couldn't even hold my eyes open.. It was a political pollster! GRRR! I asked him to please go away. LOL!

Good for you, Angel! Keep up the good work. And thanks for checking in--it reminds me to keep accountable, too.

As for me, I've continued going to my Monday belly dance classes. This week, the choreography we focused on was a little slower, so not as much cardio, but my legs muscles got some good conditioning (we do a lot of muscle isolation exercises, kinda like pilates). I've mostly kept up on my weekly walks, though I haven't been able to do more than one lap (a little over a mile) because it's been SO hot. No walk this week, as my walking buddy is out of town, but I did take a short walk around the block on a work break (I mapped it at .67 miles--better than nothing!)

I am trying to keep up my exercising. I lost 45 lbs in the last year. It would be sweet to hit 50 soon before I start gaining! So today I did 80 minutes between two walks and 21 min. hooping. Yay me! ;)

I do it before fasting but it really hasn't affected my fasting numbers but it did bring my breakfast ones down. I wake up do 20-30 min of either walking on the treadmill or a workout dvd I take my fasting numbers get myself and daughter ready for the day eat breakfast and by then it has apparently helped enough that an hour later when I take my breakfast numbers they are lower I'm still taking the 2.5 glyburide in the morning but that doesn't really affect my breakfast numbers more like my lunch numbers. I didn't really notice a difference in later day numbers but even if I do just like 10 minutes of cardio after lunch my numbers almost never go over then.
My doctor said you'd be suprised how many people could get off insulin if they would just exercise after eating for a few minutes, easier said than done when you lack motivation and energy lol but a good thought non the less. give it a try for a week I really have found that just that 20 min in the morning and 10 in the afternoon is helping.

Tell me more about this. Mornings are my challenge too. Is this before measuring a fasting level or sometime later? Does it help all day?

Been lagging on the exercise a bit. Last week, I got a charlie horse on my right calf on Sunday and was limping all day. By Monday night, I felt mostly better, so I went to dance class. We did a lot of stuff on tip toe and that aggravated my calf. Tuesday morning it HURT and I was limping all day again. I ended up skipping my Wednesday walk in part because I didn't want to aggravate it again. Then, Thursday morning I woke up with a charlie horse on my left calf. Not as bad as the first one, but still hurt.

DH and I did a lot of walking on Saturday. Walked all around a street fair in Redondo Beach, then drove down to Del Mar and walked all over the SD Co. Fair (incl about 1/4-1/2 mile each way from the car to the Fair entrance). Of course, the calories from the fair food cancelled out any calories burned from walking, but it just wouldn't be a county fair without a cinnamon roll and caramel apple :P . Went to dance class this week and on my Wednesday walk. Only made it two miles on the walk because my left arch was hurting. I've had more energy lately and would've walked a lot farther if it weren't for the sore foot. But two miles is better than nothing!

Last night, I went on my (mostly) weekly walk with a friend I met through SparkPeople a few years ago. We used to go 4 laps around the block (just under 1 mile per lap), but I could only go 2 miles this time. Since I've been pregnant, I haven't been able to go as far. My legs felt up to it, but I was getting a little winded. If we had rested for 5 or 10 minutes, I could've gone on, but we decided not to push it. Plus, I got to her place a little late anyways (bad traffic, and had to stop on the way and find a restroom--I have a long commute).

That's the only exercise I've done all week. I skipped my Monday dance class because I had a cold. Still slightly congested, but mostly better now. Thinking of going to the Downtown Art Walk tonight with DH. If so, we'll probably do a lot of walking around.
