I have not been here for a while - been side tract and now I need to refocus and start over . I am glad that I can start over again. That gives me opportunity to change and change in this case is good !

As July is half way through I will just continue with the habits I have already developed and get back to the ones I need to develope in August.

Babysitting these 3 dogs I took a whole new tone with DH last night he went to say he was gonna do something and I said oh I thought you were gonna say you were going to go to bed at a decent hour instead of staying up till what ever time you go to bed, and it worked he did it. I am tired of being up for 3 hours + every morning alone and half the day gone before he gets up when he has sooooooooooooo many things to do. I am not just talking about being up to deal with these dogs either he has a list on the fridge that we made together.

I don't mean to be doom and gloom, but now that I know I am not going to kill over it is going to make it much easier for me to get back on track. I have been getting my kitchen stocked and printing off SP recipes so now intend to cook at least one new one a month. Baby steps are a good thing but I should be way closer to my goal weight now than I am so now that I have searched them for the meat we buy and have them all in a nice folder in my kitchen now when I make my grocery list for the month I can add some more ingredients little by little and start cooking them and really start seeing some results not beating my self up over it just getting closer to what I need to do.

Since had a few major things put it on hold this month.

We are babysitting 3 dogs at our house for 2 weeks so really had to do some dog house proofing along the way to. They will be here in the a.m.

emoticon LINDIEMAE It takes a lot of time to weigh and measure everything that you eat, but I have lost another lb so it is worth it. We even had mac and cheese for supper last night, and I measured my amount and when I logged my food and was entering foods not listed how much protein and iron ect.....ect. by eliminating these foods instead of eating them in the right amount. I think I am liking this plus the fact that I will eventually learn and not have to weigh and measure everything, but for now it is ok. emoticon

DH even brought home another cherry cobbler that you bake and of course eat hot out of the oven, and I did not touch it I am really proud of that one.

I am tired of tight fitting clothes I wanna go get new ones and not have to look for a 5 X and it still be to small in the stomach area I need about a 2X but we all know how small clothes are made today I don't even want that to matter anymore I want an XL you can find them anywhere.

I am getting some extra walking in today for the leg exercises have to sit down and rest inbetween, but getting it in.

I am gonna be so glad to go see my new doctor tomorrow I sure do hope she is as nice as everyone has said that she is.

Starting on mother's day I gave myself a present I started weighing and measuring everything that I eat, and of course logging it. I have stayed in my ranges very well just right in fact for 2 days now trying to move around more walked around the back yard. Still recovering from being so tired.

This is a new month and its time to add a new clock work pattern to develop and change to good health. As I recently got a table to sit down and eat at that will be part of this month's make over - no more eating at the computer - but sitting down and eating a meal, not inhaling, at the table. I will continue with the others that I am developing as they are still new.

Good luck to those of you working on your issues.

When I started this journey I knew that it had to be life changing experience, and not just with food well I have taken on a new task in my life that is really challenging my anger issue's It is really good for me the task that is. I had stopped it before I came back to SP because of the anger well I decided that I was not going to deny myself the good that it did for me over the anger issue. It deals with people I am really trying to find a balance with it this time, but I am not going to beat myself up if I cannot manage it. I will have to find something else that is good for me in a different place. I realize I have issues but I also know that I do not have to accept unacceptable behavior from anyone. Faith emoticon

Faith, I am assuming that is your name, of course, but you go ahead and run on, sometimes in the run on we find the part we were looking for. There are some great books by good author and doctors to help you understand why you eat the way you do, and just what kind of relationship you have with food. I am learning that right now, through a book I should be reading and need to give back soon.

Look for those articles that address your own personal needs, either on spark or at the library. Librarys can be great sources of information as well and it gets you out !! Have a good one, cheers emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

LINDIEMAE you are so right on all of it, I so need to learn to think like that. That is exactly why I love SP and feedback so much we do have to count on our success instead of failure at 57 I am just now learning to do that. I have worked on it before in my life but not as hard as I am now lifestyle change means exactly that it is not all about eating for me I have always heard you have to know why you eat it seems that this time it is comming to me it is a whole bunch of things I guess I was always looking for that 1 thing when it is a bunch of things, and today I can say that I am learning much more about those things today I learned one is anger the other is looking at my failure instead of success that is 2 for today that is great procress for one day. I am so glad to hear that you are doing good with your journey and happy to be a part of yours and this team's. Faith emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Oh and yes you made very good sense. Your welcome, emoticon we are here to support one another. One thing you might want to consider is how to measure your success.

success is not always a number on a scale, it can be and is so much more.

Success can be in changing your life style habits to be more healthy, loosing inches, changing attitudes, there are so many ways you can count success, so count your sucesses and acknowledge your non successes to pull your socks up an do better.

No one and nothing is a failure- that word is not in my vocabulary - and won't be used here because there is no such thing as failure - especially when you acknowledge and learn from what you are doing. I hope that make sense.

I am ready for February's challenge - it will be related to meal time. Learning to relax and not wolfing down my food but rather enjoying it. Using smaller plates and watching the portions. While doing that I will continue with all the other patterns I have changed ...

Team; I agree I don't think, that fat-shamming is a good way to motivate either I think I got lucky this time, cause I have been through it so many time's before I have learned that the motivation can wear off and can lead to saying the heck with it Why does it matter anyway's? Well....... it does matter just yesterday I got so angry, over my scale not saying what I wanted it to, and my DH of course LOL. This time I did not let it cause me to eat until I went to bed I realized before it happen that was only going to cause me more pain as I would have guilt on top of that today. I also feel that there are to many other way's to motivate people to lose that shame that is mean and hateful to me. I was going to blog about anger and the scale today, but I have had the chance to have the topic's brought up on the board's that I needed to hear today. Thank's Team emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I am not sure that shaming a person for being fat is that much of a positive encouragement. Some people are fat because of heredity, some by choise or lack of knowlege. Shaming someone can also discourage them. I know it would discourage me to hibernate.

You are using it in a possitive way, keep up the good work but be prepared for when that wears off, that is when you will have to keep your guard up. This is a good place to start.

I am doing good with my trend change this month. All of them are working and I look forward and am preparing for next months. By the time I am done I will have 12 new clockwork patterns and 12 less bad habits !!

FATFREE4TODAY--anger can really motivate us but holding on to it can also eat away at you. So--use it for motivation but don't harbor it inside. I don't know if that makes sense but I expect you already know this. Hate the words, try not to hate the person!!

And yes, we will ALWAYS listen and let you vent, give advice (which you can ALWAYS take or ignore) and just be here to help.

Hi Fatfreefortoday, you are right, sometimes someone needs to ring our bell to get us to move and groove it for ourselves, after all that is what we are here for. So while you are getting YOU in the healthy shape you want to be, that cold mean spirited person can couch potato to bad health, but then again, maybe they will pick up and do likewise. Part of why spouses say things that discourage is they are afraid of the success you will have. Mean? yes, because mean, like bullying , causes one to stop. DON'T stop keep going and we will help support you.

I am doing good with my changes - so far - no breakfast left over for snack, so the snack is a true snack!

I joined SP again January 4th I think. Yesterday was the first day that I really started moving. On monday my DH made a comment that just shattered me,It made me very angry, but I have learned that if something make's me really angry then I need to look at myself, and see why.Starting yesterday I logged my food I actually exercised and timed myself so that I would know what to log. For whatever reason does not matter it got me moving I guess that Is a reason to start. Now all I have to do is concentrate on me. What he said to me was cold, hateful I will remember that all the way through motivation come's in many ways. emoticon emoticon emoticon

WE are here to cheer you on, infact you can have your coffee, but you should have an equal amount of water to counter act it .. I would ixnay the pop though, the sugar and carbonation is not good for the bones .. so I have read over and over again... remember a bit of lemon, lime, ginger, cucumber can change the flavour naturally !!

I need to drink water, I am terrible at it! Coffee always sounds better...so does hot chocolate and diet soda and iced tea...

So, that's where I'm going to start. 4 glasses and working up to 8 a day!

Thanks for this self-improvement challenge, by 2014 we should all be near perfect!

Lets see if we can stick to the program ALL DAY! (And then do it again tomorrow!)

The 10 am snack seems to be history, although its really only been 2 days LOL I am finding that I am reaching for something at 10 and remind myself that I have given this up - I am good and hungry by the time I go and have lunch. I am not sure of any emotional effect from this.

I am continuing with no snacking at night and having that snack with a meal or not at all 80% of the time, so that is good ... When I want something I remind myself how much better I sleep when I do not snack at night. For some people this may not be a problem, BUT I am a snack-a-holic ... so ... what ever I can do to over come this. I still have my 3 pm snack .. at work .. dark chocolate emoticon

It is January and its time to develop a new living pattern while still working on the previous 2 - this will be how it goes with each new one, you keep doing the previous.

For January, I will forgo the 10 am snack that I usually have at work - I tend to save part of breakfast to have that snack and then when some one brings in something I have that too. So now I will just have all my breakfast at home and then have my water etc. I am still having my snacks with dinner to eliminate night time snacking. I am good 80 % of the time. works for me.

What ever you decide to do, I wish you well with it. I just keep telling myself that I will get out of this what I put into it, so if I want a lot out I have to put a lot into it ...

I am using the Other Goals to help me remember to take my multivitamin and my calcium. You can set that up and get points for it--helps me remember!

I have proven to myself that I can forgo "junk" snacks--I will always allow fruit or veggie snacks! But as long as it fits in my calorie range, I'll have it.

Thanks Terri, you've had a lot going on these past weeks, so if you have achieved some of that I would not worry to much about what you have not done. And coffee to noon is not so bad. I often have a coffee but a large from timmies takes me all morning to drink LOL I know that is not what you mean. emoticon

You're off to a great start, Lindie. I have backslidden on mine and need to refocus on taking my vitamins and getting enough water. I did switch to hot water with a small amount of lemonade concentrate (homemade, from a friend) in the afternoons/evenings when I want something hot to sip on. My coffee curfew has slid from 10 a.m. to noon.

November went ok, I am pleased with this progress and now ready to add another, the 3rd with the help of the dietician, this month's developing healthy pattern will deal with snacks. Although I am trying to keep them to meals, I slip on this but its not just the snack, its the kind of snack and being a junk food junkie that I am I needed help with this.

This month I will begin a new development where I will use a timer for 10 minutes 2 x before I have that snack outside of meal time. IF I feel I still need it, I will allow myself the treat, BUT if in the 10 minutes I forgot about it then I really did not need it at all.

So here is how my developments are looking:

1. Have snack with meals and no inbetween meal snacking
2. drink my pitcher of water at work
3. set the timer for 10 minutes 2 x before having a snack outside of meal snacking

I will do all three of these this month ... good luck everyone with your choices !!

Try boiled water if that is what you want, a warm drink compared to a cold one. I like my water at room temperature, not cold .. can't handle cold, I get pains in my chest from it ...

I've been forgetting to post here, but I've been working on getting my vitamins every day. I've only missed a couple of days since I last posted and I usually get them twice the next day. I'm still not getting enough water and, with this cold weather, have been drinking coffee until early afternoon again. I just like having something warm to sip on, I guess. But I'm not getting enough water, so will try to refocus on that.

With all the projects I've got going on, my house is being sadly neglected. I think I'll go back to making a list of chores like I used to when the kids were home and tackle something every day. Otherwise, it will be a cleaning marathon two days before company arrives--on top of all the cooking.

I almost forgot about this with everything going on. My goal for November is to do the cardio at the hospital once a week and to do 30 min on my bike 5 x a week.

I am also continuing with the no snacking, and the water from last month which was a bust but showed me why I need to keep it up. So now I have 3 I am doing consistently to build consisency ... its a work in progress and so am I lol

What are you adding to your other two ??

I've been doing pretty well remember to take the vitamins--have only missed a handful of days all month.

Doing all this sewing makes me want to drink more coffee, but yesterday I was working outside and got lots of water.

missed my vitamins the past two days, but I've been pretty good about cutting myself off the coffee by 10:00. Today we were sewing again and Jenny wanted a pot of coffee in the afternoon, so I had a cup at lunchtime. Other than that, I nursed on my water.

I got my vitamins this morning and remembered about the coffee at 10:15 this morning (so I chugged the last of my coffee). I still didn't do very well on the water because it was a pretty cool day. I had an A&W root beer at the BBQ today. I don't usually drink soda but it sure went well with my lunch today.

I have done better with my water this week, but still need to do more. AND I am maintaining the no snacking after meals which is excellent, the more I do this the more it will become a great routine ..

I have listed taking my vitamin as an "other goal" so I am better about remembering it! You might want to list it there!

I have been so swamped that I haven't had time to think about this challenge. Having read (finally) what everyone else has been doing, I've been reminded about those vitamins! There are so many things that I would like to attend to, but I tend to be such an "all or nothing" person that it overwhelms me. Since I'm joining a little late, I'm going to focus on two things this month:
Daily vitamins and reducing my coffee intake. I tend to drink coffee until afternoon in cold weather and then I don't get enough water in--so reducing the coffee would allow for more water.

Since I really enjoy my morning coffee and I don't always rise at the same hour, I'm going to cut myself off the coffee at 10 a.m. That way, if I'm up at 4:00 one morning, I may drink more that day; however, I will switch to water at 10.

So, vitamins and coffee are my October focus. (Just got up and took my vitamins!) emoticon emoticon

The water challenge is exactly that a challenge - I did not do good this week, but the fact that I paid attention to that tells me that I am learning from this. Hopefully by 31 October I will have created a good habit to get all my water in - the snacking at meals only is still going good. I hve not lost weight but have not gained either emoticon emoticon and as my exercise picks up the weight should go down ..

Good going everyone, we all do what we can when we can ..

I am still trying to find my energy--it is LACKING! But--I will aim for 10 cups of water this month and my other focus is organizing/cleaning/putting away. I am SO overwhelmed--hubby has been working far too much so he hasn't handled his share and I need to get us BOTH organized.

So--water and cleaning up/organizing will be my goals--along with keeping up with work.

Have done pretty good the last 2 days on getting some needed housework done instead of sitting on my keister---the first few days not as I was just too hot and miserable with this weather---hoping the cooler weather will also help me have more desire to get things done.
Good for you, Betsy.

Decluttering went great for me in September and I plan to continue that but not as rigorously as we have some other things on our agenda taking up my time. One thing that I am SO happy to be getting rid of is an old boxspring that has been in our garage for months , maybe even a year or more. It goes out to the curb on Monday night with a tag I had to buy for $10 from the Village Office. It will be picked up by someone on Tuesday after 5 AM. I am looking forward to coming back from UW Madison Hospital and seeing it GONE. ( Pick up is only once a month)

Since I am in this 10 pound weight loss by Thanksgiving with Dianne I have already increased my water intake and plan to continue on that. My NEW goal for October is to walk OUTSIDE (unless it is raining ) for at least 30 minutes daily. If weather gets in the way I will walk inside Wal-Mart.

4 pounds down, 6 to go!

My challenge for the month of October is cleaning---housework will get me moving more at home and I will feel better with a bit more organization. I will also be continuing the water consumption---drinking water in the morning esp. has been very helpful.

I am also adding a water challenge. Like Lindie, I have a filter pitcher. It holds about 7 cups, which is a lot more than I drink now. I have water with my vitamins (last month's goal), after exercise, and with dinner. For October, I'm starting my day with lemon water. Then if I just use really big glasses, I might be able to finish the pitcher.

I sure hope September's challenge on this thread went well for everyone. The whole idea is to create exciting and new habits, or ways, or what ever you want to call them and continue into the next month while adding one more.

The no snacking between meals went fairly well and I can say was 90% successful, so I'llt ake that, I did learn from it, a lot about myself and what I was doing mindlessly. I no longer have anything after dinner in the evening except liquids, like water and the scale is appreciating that.

Speaking of water, that is my challenge next month, although the cardiologist laffed at me when I said I strive for 8 glasses of water a day, he said it makes no difference.

I disagree, but believe it can be over done, we forget that many of the foods we eat have water in them, cukes, zucchini, lettuces, etc... anyway, my goal for October is a water based one. I have a breta at work that holds about 5 cups of water, I fill it and forget it !!!! So the next new habit I want to create is to fill it and drain it - in the afternoon.

I will continue with the no snacking as the idea is to give up a bad for a good and well its not just for a month, its a life sentence ... and if I am good 90% I am not gonna sweat the 10 % that I am not...

So if you liked this please do join me in developing a new way of life for yourself, baby steps, one month at a time...

Dianne, I totally understand---Howard's schedule was like that all the time last school year---there is a big push for everyone to be back by 5 this year---so hoping this means we can eat more normal hours---but when one eats at 10:30 or 11---even 6 is too late.

I have been doing very well at eating breakfast--and I get more at lunch, too--especially if I have worked out. My problem time is later afternoon and then evenings. Hubby is on his way home--at 8 PM--and I just gave up waiting for him and ate at 7. Hard to do sit down meals when he isn't around!

Life long patterns are hard to change, once upon a time I never had breakfast and ate a full lunch of junk food at 11:30 pm then ate dinner at 5 so only two meals a day, course now I am in a better state of mind to accept any change I make, but it does take time to change these patterns.

I have to remember that breakfast is the most important meal of the day ... I should be eating it at one sitting and not splitting it up .... I will work on that this week.

It should prove interesting !!

I do think that PLANNING to eat something at a certain time is okay and not "snacking". I have trouble with the "sit and want something to eat--what can I find??" eating. That is the stuff I have trouble.

Lemon in water helps with digestion and has other healthy benefits, google it sometime - I have lemon in my water when i go to a restaurant - so you dont need a lot of it.. ginger is good in water too ..

I am doing well with the night time snacking, its not happening anymore, however I still need to work on afternoon ... I tend to break my breakfast up so I can have a"snack" from a portion of my breakfast at 10 am so I have to work on that too... at least the night time is going well.

I am glad you are getting somewhere on the decluttering, Dianne, keep up the good work ! Its hard to let go huh !

I don't like lemon in my water---don't understand doing that. Did really good with water intake today---but came home and had to have a soda---it was a rough day and had issues with some students at the end of the day---but only drink some of it and putting the rest away---it did help me feel better
Dianne, I am sure it does help---know it helped me when I was fighting that battle

Hubby was VERY late last night--so I did supper alone--hard to fix anything to eat all alone. But I had a nice meal with leftovers. I wanted "more" and did have calories so--cut my Klondike bar in half and only at half. I think that was REALLY good for me!

I have been gathering "stuff" to get rid of--and yesterday I went through 2 cupboards so hopefully it won't feel so out of control!!

Having a glass of water with lemon in it is the best way to break the fast from sleeping and getting your body functions working. I always drink a good large glass of water when I first wake up and I always drink one before bed. Except lately which might be why the knots are more intollerable. Could not sleep last night because of it.

BUT the no snacking in the evening is going well !!

Good on the water today---but could have been better in the morning---should have drank a glass first thing but wanted hot chocolate due to chill. One thing I read here on Spark that drinking ice cold water helped you burn more calories as it cools down the body and then it burns more to warm it up---mine must be working overtime at school trying to keep me warm---LOL

Weekends are less challenging for me because we tend to be away from the house and therefore all of the temptations in the kitchen. Ths weekend will be different because we have a wedding and I know there will be delicious food and probably cake there. You never know these days, bars, cookies, cupcakes, cheesecake, anything goes instead of the traditional tiered wedding cake.

My challenge to get rid of at least one thing each day has been going beautifully. BOTH bikes I put "FREE" signs on have been picked up and my backseat is getting fuller every day. Today I added two small life jackets that the kids wore when they were small.

yes weekends are more challenging for me as I seem to let my guard down and just go all out. So it was quite different to be restrained on not following that pattern. Last night I really wanted a snack around 8 pm but knew I could not have one. This is only the 2nd week so those cravings will be around a bit ...

I know what you mean, Lindie, weekends seem the hardest to follow thru---but think I did alright on the water consumption.
Did really well yesterday---need to step it up this morning though---had hot chocolate instead of water---so going to grab a glass of water before I go out of the house.

This past weekend was a real challenge for me as this is when I do my most snacking - almost uncontrollable. BUT it was nipped in the bud and I did follow through with no snacking inbetween meals.

Tomorrow is our garbage pick up and the neighbors are commenting on how much stuff we have out there so it was definitely a good day to get rid of stuff for us! I was working on an area in the house and Jay was working in the garage while listening to the Packers lose (boo hoo) and since I have a lot of day care stuff out there and it was nice out, I went to help him and we got a LOT done. If only there was another day to the weekend...sigh.

Glad you remembered to trun those books back on, Dianne. Good job on the yard work, I be t you are as tired as I am.

My de-cluttering today turned into bush trimming but that was also worthwhile--it was a great day to do it! I have remembered to "turn on" my half.com books to sell--I removed them while we were gone--you need to ship them within 3 days and I couldn't if I wasn't home. I do hope to sell a few more. DD3 did sell one of her books at school and may try to sell her differential equations book in Dec--she doesn't want/need to keep it and the prof says he wants to keep the same one--he has 2 in college and thinks the books are WAY too expensive.

Need to copy your vitamin ideas--either set by the computer or upstairs to take at bed--that is when I should get the calcium.

I once watched an episode of Biggest Looser and they were doing their 25 K race and one of the racers asked the coach for a pit stop to use the potty, which affected their time. She asked the coach what professional runners do, he said they go in their pants and keep on running !!!! So when I went for my 10 K walk - I used a depends - then I did not worry about having to go if there were long line ups for the potty places... in the future when I am doing long walks again, it will be depends - If professionals can do this without qualm, then I can do the same... emoticon

That is a good rule to follow, Betsy. And you are right, grocery shopping is entirely different---I often stock up on something when it is on sale.
Got to get my water in this morning---yesterday I drank later due to my walk.

Cathy, I got rid of 3 1/2 bag full at the donation bin today; all were from the Xgf! I will attempt to sell some of her things the consignment shop asks for such as sweatshirts and jackets. If they don't sell they are donated so it is a win/win situation.

I put another clutter free tip in use and plan to install it except for grocery shopping. That rule is if you bring anything new into the house, something must go. On Thursday I bought a "Sleep Sheep" for Sophie ( it plays sounds such as whales, rain, heartbeat, waves, etc.) and a Wee Sing CD for listening to in day care. Since I am already getting rid of one thing each day, I had to get rid of three...and I did it. One of the things I got rid of was the outer piece to a Columbia jacket I used to wear and now I am pleased to report it is MUCH too big :)

Betsy, just get rid of it---LOL---when MIchael moves out and if he takes his dresser in his room, the dresser we have down in the basement, the exercise bike, and my rocking chair will all have a home in there---and maybe even my trunk that I like to keep my Christmas clothes and sweaters stored in it plus extra blankets will come upstairs.
Did really well on water intake today --esp. in the morning---which is when I really want to concentrate it since at night it causes sleep issues.

Cathy, I am glad to see that you also have basement issues. That is definitely my biggest decluttering need but I also need help to get through it and coordinating schedules is tough. Steven owes me so hopefully we will be awake at the same time on a weekend soon and can begin the process.

Phyllis, how much vitamin D do you take? If you can't take it with breakfast, how about making it a habit to take with supper. It may be tough to do at first but once you get in the swing it should become routine. I take mine with breakfast every morning and can definitely tell when I don't.

Great decluttering news...although it shouldn't be my work...I am happy to get stuff out of my house. What am I talking about? Steven's x gf's stuff that is in our basement that she intended to attempt to sell at a consignment shop. She has agreed to let me donate it but I just might go through and see if I think anything would sell and try it myself! Have to think about it.

That is good Cindi as vitamins such at calcium and vitamind3 should be taken with food, vitamind3 is a fat soluble (sp) form of vitamin and requires food for it to go to where it needs to go. Most vitamins will cause upset stomach if taken by themselves. I take all of mine with food, and calcium should not be taken at more then 500 IU a dose as the body does not absorb more then that ... found that interesting.

I can't take vitamins in the morning and so I take them other times. I keep a bottle by the computer and another one goes in my bag to work. When I track either lunch or supper, I take a vitamin. It has helped a lot to do it that way.

I tend to forget my vitamins as well, or leave them at home instead of taking them to work, but Phyllis you are right, you do feel different when the vitamin D3 gets too too low. I have a little yellow pill box, has 3 slots, morning, lunch, dinner - lol so I fill the compartments and take them. BUT when I do not fill the compartments, I forget!

I am doing good today, just finishing dinner and dessert and that will be it except of course for water or tea. I do not consider them a snack.

Alright, I'm jumping in here too. My new habit will be daily vitamins. A while ago I had very low vitamin D and felt really tired, unmotivated, even depressed. I have been feeling down again lately and it dawned on me that I haven't been taking my vitamins. So I need to make that a priority.

I was searching for something and ended up moving ALL the folders, etc out of the "hiding spot" they have been in. Spent over an hour sorting through things last night--need to finish it tonight. But--have a big pile of paper recycling and a bunch to go to work to reuse! So making a dent in my de-cluttering!

I like your decluttering one, but I have that pretty much under control---except for the basement---LOL---and that takes Michael to work on that one---I have got to make him bring up his college dorm stuff so I can wash it and take it to GoodWill or maybe to the homeless shelter for families.

I just parted with a toy I bought at a garage sale called "Smart Street." It is a large toy and a fun one ..for one person. I have had it in a closet for over a year but as my clients are getting younger I just decided to get rid of it but I will admit I toyed around with trying new batteries first. After that I remembered how annoying it is when you get something wrong. It doesn't give you any guidance, just says, "sorry, try again." I will be much happier without listening to that AND the arguments over who gets to play with it!

Dianne, I am so glad I am not the only one with a "dreaded basement!"

Cathy, next month it will be water for me although I am working on it this month too.

Good luck everyone!

I did pretty good with water at work--although I forgot to take a bottle with me to DRR first thing as I had drank 2 glasses of water at home. Today I am staying home hoping that resting and sleeping will make me feel better---probably won't go to water aerobics unless I am feeling a lot better tonight.

Everyone has great goals to acheive and start for the month of Sep - emoticon I have always thought of the de-cluttering as a way of letting go and making room for new adventures, new attachments and the like. You kinda have to move the old out to get the new in there. Sometimes a good physical de-cluttering is good for the soul as well.

The first day for me of no snacking - well it was almost a go - I forgot that i usually have something around 10 am in the morning and its usually something left over from breakfast, see now I have to work on that and stop that "practice" to allow the new pattern to develop. I will be ok and the only exception will be my chocolate at 3 pm, as that is the best time to have it, I do not consider it a snack. emoticon

I think I will take on the de-cluttering. My pattern is acquisition! I want to break that and turn it into "passing on". Betsy is doing a one item a day--I will try to work an area a day (going through things and getting rid of) OR just finding some thing every day that I can get rid of (either throw it out cause no one will want it or recycle it to a place it would be useful).

I KNOW I would feel better with less "stuff" around me. I look in my closet and have too much, in the dish cupboards, in the dreaded basement--so if I can lighten that load, I know I will feel the lightness!

Very good choices ladies as this is about changing livving patterns, not just habit - and developing those living patterns into a good habit. I too need to drink more at work, maybe that will be next month. De-cluttering is something I also need to work at. You can talk here or on the chat thread, either or as to how you are doing or not doing. emoticon

Good idea, Lindie---I have put a sticky on this so it will stay up for a year.
My challenge for myself this month is to drink enough during the day at work---it is very dry in the school and I really do need to do more during the day so not as much at night with interferes with my sleeping pattern---most times at home I am pretty good at this but not at work.
Betsy, decluttering of one's space helps to put the rest of your life in proper perspective--so a good one to work on.

I think this is a great idea and really what this is all about. After all you can lose the weight but if you don't change the lifestyle it WILL come right back. I already mentioned what I was doing for the month of September on the chat thread and that is decluttering. My goal is to get one or more things out of my house EVERY day. I will take the bag or box of what I collect to the consignment shop or a donation place every Saturday. Having a clutter free house will make ME feel better. Thanks for posting this challenge!

I wanted to start a new topic under challenges to get myself and others into the head space of changing our bad habits into good habits. One of the first things I wanted to do was find another word for "habit" - we all have our likes and dislikes and we all develop patterns of living that suit our comfort needs. Quite often developing new habits - or living patterns means we have to go outside our comfort needs in order to change them .

On one of my other teams a friend is making changes one living pattern at a time and spends a month working on that pattern and then moves on to the next one. As there are 12 months in a year, one can honestly have 12 changes if 12 were required. I also thought that since September is a month of renewal or refreshing one's journey it would be a good time to try something that was not just the normal exercise and water related, although...

So now join me if you wish to pick an area of your life where you want to improve and concentrate on that for this month.

So what is mine? I have made many changes that have stuck since I started with spark - now I want to improve on that and there is always room for self improvement. In a discussion with my daughter, she always eludes that it is my snacking that has kept my weight up and kept me unhealthy. I could ignore that and say she does not know what she is talking about, but she is right. So my refresh, restart, or change for me this month will be snacking, and it does not have to be just at night ...

I have decided to address this snacking by preparing a "dessert" for each meal and then not having anything after that. Its a start, if I can develop this into a good habit and living pattern, then I will have eliminated a bad one - constant snacking. Wish me luck, and I wish you success with what you want to do... sorry for being long winded LOL
