I finished the Challenge strong, with 210.4 pounds of weight. Only had 242 points, felt I could have done more if pushed. Yes, I know I need to push myself, but I'd rather play basketball than golf. Just sayin'.

Another Challenge nears its end. I somehow get the feeling I'm not only the only one left on the track, but the only one left in the stadium. I realize I have a strong tendency to exaggerate my feelings... Anyone else still keeping track?

My weight is still in the below-215 range, although it has only once hit 211. It was 213 this morning. This is a huge success, but I was hoping to keep going once I reached my "impossible" goal of 215.

I made it to 227 points in this Challenge, and I'm back down to 211 pounds. I still haven't decided what my new Goal Weight should be... maybe 190? I haven't been below 200 pounds since 1986.

Hope someone else is here.

Moss

Not much to report. I did about 1:20 of cardio, so 12 points there. Messed up on a 25-point bonus spin. Still under 200 points. But I'm still going.

Here's my report for the week. Nope, didn't get back to the gym, have to start scheduling that. Got a couple people interested in the Challenge but nobody posted but me this week. Lost some weight, YAYYYYYY. I've actually passed my goal weight, should set my goals somewhere lower. Doctors say I should be 165-185 but I never dreamed I'd have a chance at that, 215 seemed unreachable. Well, I reached it, and have been as low as 211 this week.

Weight pts 34
Strength pts 0
Cardio pts 9

I spun a 25 today, would be a good day to get some work done... but my fellow Challengers don't seem to be around, which is a big dis-incentive. Please come back. Tell me you're in this with me.

Hugs,
Moss

LOL I get confused sometimes where I'm posting.

I made my GOAL WEIGHT!!! After being on SP for years and years, working and working... January of 11 I was back up to 272, with my low being in the mid 230s. This year, it just melted off, whaddya know. I weight 214.6 yesterday. Gonna have to set a new goal.

Anyhow, here are my Challenge Totals:

It's never too late. Finishing the Challenge is better than starting it!

If you want the spreadsheet I made up which makes it easier to track your points, email me at zaivalananda@gmail.com -- but the rules are posted in this chain of messages, feel free to count them yourself.

I've been losing weight, so it might be hard to catch me, but I haven't been doing all the work I should be, so it might be easy...

Moss

My honey finally took me to the Y, on the shared membership based on my income (hey, I can't knock it, $20 a month for ONE person wouldn't be bad, and for two it's killer kool). They have some decent weight and cardio equipment. I didn't overdo it for a first time. Hopefully can get there a couple times a week without honey screaming I'm taking too much time away from her.

If you all think I'm some sort of weight-loss champion, let me tell you, it feels good but not me. I have been in SP for some 7 years if I remember right, bouncing between 245 and 275. All this success has been in the past 21 months, and it comes from keeping my head in the game even when (for years) nothing was working. I have posts around SP (check my blog) about just hanging in there, about being a lightweight around here, etc. I don't give up easily.

I'm hoping that is an incentive for each of you, an inspiration, but I can't make it one unless you hear it and believe it. In other words, it's your job to be inspired, not mine to inspire, but I'll keep doing what I can.

Hugs,
Moss

I was hoping for a new "magic number" (i.e., low weight) this morning, and I sorta kinda got it... 217.4, down from 217.6 last week. Awww. Well, it's a loss anyhow.

I did something with my weights today, other than just looking at them. Hope it's the start of a process, not just an aberration in my schedule. But I just need a few more points to count my 7 point bonus spin...

By the way, posting HERE counts as Support Points. For that matter, posting just about anywhere in Pagan Place counts as Support Points.

How is everyone dong? Reports due on Monday.

Moss

OK, my exercise points are zero right now, but I'm really exercising a lot. I have a new job, been on it about 2 months now, and hadn't really had a job since 1997. So I'm up and down, running here and there, lifting stuff I never lifted... and can't count it at all, as most of you have regular jobs and those are part of your baseline. It is also increasing my self-esteem, which further allows me to lose weight.

So the only honest thing to do is collect my pound points when I get them, and try to get time for more cardio and/or strength work. The time thing is hard to do, as my fiancee is always complaining about not having enough time for her, and she is already intensely jealous about the job as she wanted me 24/7 like we started out. Ah well, that's another blog. But I'm getting better, and soon might be able to schedule some time at the gym -- my sweetie got a poverty discount at the Y which includes me, but only she has time to go (for now). Trying to work on her issues so that I can take better care of myself.

Did I mention I spun a 20 today? Not much chance I'll get to use it as bonus points, LOL.

Hugs,
Moss

As I had expected, I shot up to 224 after hitting 217... and now, 4 days later, have drifted back down to 219, so it's a net gain (i.e., back below 220). Give me a few more days and I might break the 217 number.

I figured out a couple months ago (and posted it in a blog) that I'm basically a Bear -- lose weight in the summer, put it on in the winter. My sweetie figured out last week that she is a wolf - put on weight in the summer, lose it in the winter. I guess that means we'll be going different directions, hope we can play off each other rather than trigger.

Don't worry about it. Pick up where you are now and keep going. The challenges have rarely featured someone who runs away with the lead, and the fact that you're still posting means you're still in it.

I feel off the bandwagon before it even moved. I had a funeral this weekend for a close friend so I have done nothing. I have not gained which is good but I really need to get started if I am going to make this work.

I got up late today. That gives me weight bonuses, as I get to drop more water before I step on the scale. However, I seem to be doing well. I had plateaued out at 220, then two days ago, the day we started, was up to 221. Considering I was 226 or so a couple weeks earlier, that was nothing. But I was 217 this morning, which is 40 points for this Challenge (plus my measly 3-point login spin).

Get busy everyone! This is the least I've weighed since 1998, when I was homeless, living on the river, and walking 11 miles each way to town every day. (November 2003 was my peak, 305 lbs)

Moss

I just noticed that, for those of you not using the spreadsheet, I had not listed the maximums. Here is the full statement on points, taken from the spreadsheet.

10 pts for each lb you lose
1 pt for every 10 reps of a Strength Training exercise - up to 180 reps or 18 pts/day
(remember if you do this daily, to do a different set of muscles every other day so you don't over-train, muscle is built on your "rest" day)
1 pt for every 10 minutes of cardio up to 180 min or 18 pts/day
1 pt for every Pagan Place team member you support - max of 10/day
Count your daily Login points any day in which you exceed 15 total points

Hope you're all getting into the swing of things. In the past, when a Challenge has been successfully complete, I have issued awards, just little SparkGiftie things but it's something.

Nope, you don't need the spreadsheet, but it has proven to help.

Here's how it works:

10 points for each pound you lose (from your previous low in this Challenge). If you think your scale is accurate to tenths of pounds, that's 1 point for each tenth.

1 point for each 10 reps of strength training. It is recommended to work different sets of muscles on alternate days.

1 point for each 10 minutes of cardio work.

1 point for each message you consider to be supportive, to any member of Pagan Place, not just messages in this string.

Each day your daily total exceeds 15 points, you can count your Login Points (that spin most of us do every day when we log in).

The Challenge begins tomorrow (8/2/12) and ends September 22 (9/22/12).

Weekly reports of your progress are encouraged; in the past, we reported on Monday for points earned through Sunday. Works for me.

Hugs,
Moss

Let's do a shorter one, easier to set goals.

Email me at zaivalananda@gmail.com to get the spreadsheet, which will help you keep track of your points. If you need an office package to read the spreadsheet, you can get Softmaker Office 2008 (and maybe 2010 for Windows) for free (2012 is pretty cheap too, as office packages go), or LibreOffice or OpenOffice.org for free.
