LOL Add 'em up, Kyrrdis. I only had 160; another person had something in the 150s a couple weeks ago; and I haven't seen anything higher.

Next year I'll skip the Candlemas challenge; we don't need our humiliation so exposed.

I did 90 minutes of cardio last weekend... my weight is up and down, but is currently at 242.5 which is better than the 248 it was a few days ago. My points are... depressing, but I'll live.

Everyone re-commit to the process, and lets get Buff By Beltane II off to a hot start next month!

The good news is, we are supposed to set our goals low for this Challenge. Most of us only need to set a goal of not gaining more over the holidays than we can lose leading up to Beltane. We kept the challenge going so we can track how much we gained or lost, not to beat ourselves up over it. (Goddess knows I do that enough already, LOL.)

As I'm keeping the challenges going pretty much through the year (we skipped one or two in the past few years), we can use this Candlemas challenge to compare to next year's, and see how much better we can do. For a lot of us, this is cold and flu season, so you can't expect too much. But keeping a consistency of recordkeeping develops a habit. I'm hoping we're all developing it.

OK, I got 24 points last week, all in strength training, making my total a measly 140 points. Not trying to be TOO hard on myself, but in past challenges I've had two-week totals higher than that.

And my weight has gone up again, to 247 this morning. Grrrr.

I am preparing the next challenge, bringing back an old name which worked for us... Buff By Beltane II. I should have the spreadsheet ready soon, just ask for it (in email, not SparkMail).

OK, I got 21 points in weight work this week (Tues and Sat). My weight is back down to 243. My total points for this Challenge are 116.

I'm also working back up to cardio work. We have a wind-resistance stationary bike, and I've done 10 minutes on it twice this week. Of course, I don't count cardio work until it reaches 30 minutes (minimum cardio level), but it's a start.

Unless there is a major miracle, I will be lucky to get DOWN to my pre-holiday weight before Candlemas. I just don't know if I can do 1200 - 1550 calories/day right now (willpower being one of several issues). If I get more exercise in, perhaps I can work it out, but I've been having problems with that, too.

Perhaps I will feel more positive/willful after the holidays 'wear off'?

Well, I've fallen off the wagon for a few weeks. I'm up 2.8 pounds from my lowest weight on the challenge (so far).

Getting back on track is going to be fun for me, too. I do not want to discuss my weight this morning... my first morning since escaping from the Overfeeding Maternal Greek (OMG).

I did get a little walking done in Florida, but not much else.

I'm up 11 pounds from my low this Challenge. I will fix that. I finally did SOME strength work yesterday -- not quite enough to be able to use my 10 Login Points, but it's a start.

My Challenge Total right now is 105 which, for me, is pathetic. I will do my best to keep working -- I almost did enough cardio yesterday to count it (need to do 30 minutes for it to be "cardio").

I did a little better this week. I have done nothing but gain weight since starting a new asthma medication two months ago, so I will take any reduction I can get. I finally ditched the medication and found an herbal remedy that is exceeding my expectations.

I haven't been keeping track in my candelmas chart, but I've been losing weight even tho I'm less active due to my surgeries. Hopefully will catch up with charting and have something more solid to report, but I think I've lost 8 pounds in December

I'm happy to report that, with all my slippage, I'm still only up to 243.5 today. Yeah, that's back over my 240 "barrier" but now I know that's beatable.

I have been feeling better lately, and even flirted with actual exercise... not enough to bother recording in the Challenge, but baby steps.

Oh, my housemate/dear friend/landlady is in a Pagan band that most of y'all would love, called Tuatha Dea. They performed a concert at Preservation Pub in downtown Knoxville on Yule Eve, over 3 hours, and the first hour got streamed to the Internet... so if you want to watch, here's the link:

OK, I think my crises are over. There have been a multitude of them, mostly having to do either with my recent move or my just-passed birthday. I will be getting back into this Challenge. Not only that, one of my housemates has a Bowflex, so I'm going to REALLY be going to work. I expect to win this Challenge, even though I'm a good bit behind. Let's all kick this up; it's for your health and mine. I've gained almost 10 pounds from my low, but I will finish this Challenge at 230 or lower, or know why.

sounds like a hard week over all! I did not weigh in, and although I did walk at least 10 minutes a day and have seen small daily improvements, I have been really struggling with some of the pain and frustration of postoperative living. I miss working out, and I miss other daily routines like walking the dogs. On an up note, some friends came over to do some healing magic and I really felt better emotionally and saw some improvement physically afterwards. I plan to paint them a picture in thanks and to paint a picture of what I saw in my mind when they were doing their magic.

I hope you all have a better week this week. I am not sure if I should bother weighing in late or just wait for this upcoming Sunday. I have resumed keeping track of food, and will do my weekly report next week.

I'm much better today. Besides the stresses, I need new lamps in my room. The room is fitted with old fluorescent fixtures, and both the sound and light frequencies have been hurting me. I'm also doing a bit better dealing with the stresses, and my housemates have had time to talk with me today which always helps.

I have been quite ill in many different and odd ways. My sleep cycles are way out of whack and are resisting any attempts at a return to any form of normalcy, my memory is so bad that I can't remember any contents of many conversations (including "CJ is going out to get stuff to make dinner tonight")... my stress levels are rising badly due to a stupid decision my boss made (but that I have to implement and enforce) and some extra workload...

I will keep trying. I know it looks bad for the Challenge Leader to not be completing his tasks, but I'm fighting for more serious things right now. I hope to right the ship shortly.

Darn, I knew I forgot something. Had some chicken noodle, forgot the garlic. My colds are usually very short-lived, as they are mostly the result of post-nasal drip and I use a neti pot fairly regularly. However, I know what caused this, and know what to do.

Hang in there everybody. I go in for some internal surgeries tomorrow and will be out of commission for a while, but I am going to be required to walk around the house afterwards, so can I count that as cardio? I'll count steps regardless :)

Best wishes while I'm away I hope you all do well and I double dog dare ya to catch up to my strength points ;) Here's some tips Emme:
Every step counts, if you can only get 6 reps in, get them!
Switch it up, keep it interesting. I find if you look at the My Fitness page and click "Switch workout" on the strength section they give some great suggested workouts and then it's like a game to try to check them all off or get as close as I can
Try an exercise band
Try a swiss exercise ball (you can get them cheap at ross or they also are at amazon.com and elsewhere)
Google "Fun with strength training" and see what it comes up with :D

Well, I am completely struggling with getting in strength training.

I'm a beginner with fitness. Most exercise intimidates me. For me, I think getting started with a routine is the hardest part. I try to go on walks after dinner (most nights) and I go to the gym three days a week during my lunch breaks to get in my cardio (treadmill, usually). However, strength training -- I haven't started!!!

Does anyone have advice on getting into the strength training groove?

Z, I noticed that too. I'm 5'10" so just slightly less than the male average. You're probably taller, but who knows :D

Hey, we're almost the same weight, too! I just dropped from 243-ish last Challenge, hanging around 238-ish now. I might be taller... or not...

This is our next wonderful Challenge for members of this forum. If you would like a spreadsheet to help you keep track, please write me at zaivalananda@gmail.com .

The rules are the same as last time:

10 points for each pound lost (you cannot count pounds lost after gaining back, only cumulative pounds lost from the start of the Challenge)

1 point for each 10 reps of weight/strength work

1 point for each 10 minutes of cardio work

1 point for each message supporting others in the Challenge

...

and if your daily points add up to 15 or more, you can count your Login Bonus Points (on the spinner when you log in...) that day. If you get some number of SparkPoints instead of Points, count it as 20 points.

Make weekly reports of your weight, weight points, strength points, cardio points, support points, and login points, plus the weekly total and the Challenge total.
