As with all things, it was a combination of work (bicycle riding in this mountain town), mindfulness, and other stuff which made this Challenge a success for me... but I just remembered I've been ignoring a change I made.

As this challenge began, I also started using a bread machine to make my own bread, and have been almost exclusively eating only bread I made. I have not been using exclusively "organic" stuff, but all unbleached and untreated flours and whatnot. I let the bread machine mix it, and then remove it and let it rise on its own, squeeze it down, drop it in a oil-sprayed bread pan, let it rise to the proper height, and then pop it in the oven.

It may be that the extra gluten I add might be the secret weight-loss ingredient -- if my system is sensitive to gluten, I would not be, shall we say, retaining what I have eaten. But I have also found myself eating only when I'm hungry, which is much less often than it was before, and I blame the wonderful world of chemistry that packaged foods include (and my leaving one part of that world) for most of the change. (Also eating less and feeling full sooner... not sure whether I'm eating "enough" according to SP, but I'm not hungry.)

Well, there's no time to really think about it... was hoping to hear from Kyrrdis before deciding...

But I guess we'll go another 2-holiday round. This one will be tough, as it includes the "holiday season" when we all have excuses to put on some fat to carry us through the Winter months. So I'm going to keep the challenge itself basically the same, but not expect much.

We should spend the time during the Inspiration For Imbolc Challenge thinking of what changes we could implement that will help us meet our goals. Less stress on meeting the goals, more on considering changes and beginning their implementation.

I have the spreadsheet ready... as it will go through February 2, it's two days longer than the Slimmer By Samhain Challenge. Ask me for the spreadsheet -- I didn't whip this one up in a frenzy, just copied my current one and deleted the values, plus added the extra two days, so there will be no glitches this time (please).

So what do y'all think? Should we wait until Candlemas/Imbolg before starting the next challenge?

I have the opposite result of Crystalwolf -- after a couple of years on SP with no results, all of a sudden I start losing weight... 15.5 pounds just in the 3 months of this challenge...

My achilles pain flared up again, dammit. It's not even the tendon, it's some sore spot on the outside of where the tendon attaches to the heel... don't know why it makes the whole area hurt, and don't know what to do to reduce the pain. Walking on it sometimes helps, sometimes hurts...

But I did drop another pound in the night. I like this challenge! LOL

The pounds have been slipping off lately, I wonder if I'm eating enough... lost another this morning, down to 248!

Good luck to all in finishing the Challenge.

Do we want to start right up with another Challenge? I think the time from Samhain to Yule, or maybe even Candlemas, are good times for rest and reflection. But that's just my feeling. Responses are VERY welcome, I love hearing from you people.

The next tweak for this challenge concept (which I'll do next time, assuming we have interest) would be to allow Login bonuses any time you have total points for the day exceed 15.

And I promise I'll get the spreadsheet fixed. I have no clue what happened this time, but it's fixable... just have to playtest it first before releasing it.

Thanks :) It's nice to have people offer support that have "been there" ...LOL My RA is actually starting to behave better (odd, since the fall has been colder than normal) so I'd like to start walking again. I have a recumbent exercise bike, I just need to find a new spot for it since we rearranged the living room. I thought I'd use it downstairs while waiting to switch laundry, but lo and behold I couldn't bring myself to use it. I think I'd have better luck using it while watching tv, since I don't get much tv time normally... LOL

Good for you, Crystalwolf... you've known me long enough to know what a yo-yo I've been, or rather my weight has been. It's good to finally get moving... and getting moving is what caused the change. Walking wasn't enough, the bicycle is what did it for me... I'm sure an exercise program would have done it, but couldn't talk myself into it. Hope you can find what works for you.

Sorry, somehow I stopped getting my emails with reply notices. Probably because I was just editing my original post and not making new ones, duh (I can be such a tard at times). I haven't been really active much recently, life is in the way, and I've had to put weight loss on the back burner to keep my sanity. LOL. Well, I have an interesting computer issue. All my files, including my spreadsheet, are kept on an external hard drive, smaller than a pack of cards and transportable. Tuesday I took it with me to visit my new girlfriend and share some files with her. I left the USB cable plugged into it, figured what the heck, saves me having to look for where the cable got to.

When I got home yesterday, the USB connector on the external box had broken. Hanging by one of two wires, and the plastic thing holding it to the circuit board had snapped.

So right now, I can't get to any of my files (except those I had backed up on my Linux machine, which does not including my Eternal Press work files or my SBS spreadsheet). And I've lost another half pound, finally got down to 255, and can't even record it.

"Experience is directly proportional to ruined equipment." -- techie adage. I have ordered a new box. My data is safe, I just can't reach it right now.

In my case, I am soooooo happy that another pound came off. The only good things about being on this plateau are: 1. the loose skin is tightening up again, and 2. I can probably wear these clothes for a bit longer (thus saving money).

My week was not so much falling off the wagon, but continuing to be so busy I was too exhausted to exercise. This week may be more of the same, or may not. But I had a fabulous weekend at the SerpentStone Gathering, too much to talk about here. And today I get 5 more weight points!

THERE IS AN ERROR IN THE FORMULAS on the spreadsheet. A week ago looked fine, this week had a few weekly totals that were wrong, and all later weeks are missing Sunday in the totals. You can fix this by clicking on the block, and looking at the status line, which will say something like "=SUM(D37:D42)". The first number is not correct, the second number is... unless I messed up my own spreadsheet without messing up the template I sent y'all. You can click on the status line formula and just change the first number -- like if it's D38 and should be D37, fix it.

I'll be posting mine shortly... I have not continued to lose weight, but I have not gained above 260 again, which is a blessing. I may yet hit 255 if I get a little more exercise (read: ride the bike more than 1-2 times a week). And I will be ecstatic the day I hit 249... only to aim at 244, then 239... etc...

Eh, who knows what I did - just part of the disease process - my bones are softening, which with my added weight makes my legs bow - so it doesn't take much of a twist to set my leg off. Plus it's been rainy off and on for over a week, so I'm having an arthritis flare. Eventually it will go away, I just have to take it easy until it does.

I'm pissed at that weight... yesterday I was 2 pounds lights, AND I spent all night last night expelling the contents of my intestines and have eaten very well in every sense of the word (not too much, very low calorie, etc.) Ah well, it will come down again if I don't lose focus.

I haven't had as much energy for my bicycle, but I keep taking it out. I think this (riding my bike) is the best thing I can do, it is both strength and cardio exercise in my current condition.

And this morning (Friday, well, around 1 pm, that's "morning" for me), I stepped on the scale.

For the first time since my foot surgery, I now weigh less than 260 pounds. Yeah, it's only 259.5, but that's less than 260. As we say on Yahoo Messenger, \:D/

Major success tonight on riding my bicycle. I've been slowly getting my legs back... it's hard to do after most of 30 years slacking off, and Asheville is not the flattest town in America... I just rode a very up-and-down 2 miles, plus the same return trip, without once having to get off my bike and walk. My lungs are telling me I worked them (and my throat) too hard, but my legs aren't complaining much.

OK, I'm modifying the use of the Login Points, should be easier...

Rather than giving yourself an opportunity to hurt yourself by overworking something...

If you reach the daily limit on ANY area (strength, cardio, support) then you can count the Login Points as a bonus.

Does that make sense?

I just noticed today that I forgot to put the formula in for Daily Points. If you cafre, it's easy to add, but it's fairly superfluous... you could even delete that column without hurting anything.

If you want to add the formula,, go to the first cell (H2? I'm flying blind right now) and add the formula "=sum(d2..g2)" -- in other words, add the amounts in cells d2, e2, f2, etc., up to but not including that cell. Hit enter. (do not include the quotation marks)

If you did it right, the cell should now show the total of the other cells in that row which you've entered points into. Now click on that cell again, move your mouse to the bottom right corner of that cell (there should be a little black square in that corner), click the square and hold your mouse button down while dragging your mouse down the same column. This will copy the formula but automatically change it for each row (row 3 will say D3..G3, row 4 will say D4..GT4, etc.).

End of Excel lesson. Sorry I didn't have the spreadsheet on this machine, adding to the ambiguity of the above. If you don't get it, write me and I'll supply you with a fixed spreadsheet.

I listed my lowest weight during previous challenges as my starting weight... 262.5... I was sure I had some distance to cover to get back down there, but didn't want to claim points for losing from whatever I'd gained to...

Today I got brave enough to step on the scale. 262.5, whaddya know? I usually have had a good feel for what my weight was, and I felt fat this morning, would have guessed 268. So now I'm motivated -- for a change, I held a loss, and for over a season. And if I felt fat, then there was room to lose...

Hope this helps someone besides me, but it sure helps me.

OK, here we go again. This time we're going through Mabon and keeping going until Samhain.

We start on Sunday (Aug 2), and continue through Saturday (Oct 31).

Tweaks on weight work and cardio work, and a new rule...

Here are the rules for points:

10 pts for each lb you lose (remember, if you gain lbs back, you can't claim points for losing them again -- only if you lose MORE weight than you had previously)

1 pt for every 8 reps of a Strength Training exercise - up to 160 reps or 20 pts/day
(remember if you do this daily, do a different set of muscles every other day so you don't over-train, muscle is built on your "rest" day)

1 pt for every 10 minutes of cardio up to 180 min or 18 pts/day

1 pt for every Pagan Place team member you support - max of 12/day

AND -- If you spin for your Daily Login Points, you can do UP TO that many points of bonus exercise in your chosen area (Strength, Cardio, Support) and count them. (If you spin anything other than points, such as SparkGift Points, count it as 20.)

If it's easier for you, you can post your points here daily, or keep track and do it weekly. Please track in this format:
