Well, today I broke 2 personal records.
First, when I was doing my Bench Lats I managed 3 sets of 10 rather than the 3 sets of 7 I had been doing.
Then I managed to jog (In the snow, no less) for 20 minutes. Up 8 minutes from my last time!!!

I'm doing the spark people boot camp as well, so hopefully by Imbolc I will be in MUCH better shape.

Well, the new year has begun and it's gotten off to a good start. I am doing well with my wight loss and plan to do even better from now on.
My goals for this year are written out and I have made something of a head start on it all.
I'm happy, on my way to being healthy and doing well.

I am actually doing pretty good though I haven't got on Sparkpeople as much as I should.
My running programme is going well. I'm up to two sets of running/jogging at 7 minutes each, though I am actually doing it because I am pushing myself.
The idea is that if I push myself further than the minimum each week then even on a bad day I can hit the minimum I need to.

My diet is a lot better though I did eat a bunch of cake to celebrate my 1 year wedding anniversary last week. (I think that's allowed.)

My wife is also back to working out after her accident which helps me since she likes to do it alone and so I go out and get in a little extra of whatever I can while she does it.

I'm drinking a lot more water and trying to just keep myself motivated and working hard.

I CAN do this.

Well, I haven't been around for a while and I haven't been working out as much as I'd like.
The reason for that is simple: I set fire to my face. It's a long story but suffice it to say that I am doing well and that I have started working out again.

I finally had time to cruise around Military.com to find a bit of circuit training to throw in on days where I feel like I need it. So I have THIS courtesy of Stew Smith.

img.photobucket.com/albums/v3
36/Dreadg
erbil/circuit.jpg

I also sat down and made a better workout schedule for myself. It will get printed out today along with the circuit training and a few other things for extra motivation.

The workout is just things I HAVE to do on each day. I can add in some extra cardio or bodyweight training whenever I feel up to it. I hope to get at least ten minutes of just pure cardio a day and at least 50 minutes on my cardio days.
I'm getting there and I'm pretty happy.

img.photobucket.com/albums/v3
36/Dreadg
erbil/WorjoutSchedule.jpg"

I also worked out a list of fitness requirements for various Military/Special ops groups and made a point of noting not just the minimum requirement but the distinguished requirement. Those are all on a goal sheet. My aim is to be able to do them all very easily in 2 years. (I have ages, but I won't slack.)
That's when I hope to join the Idaho Air Force National Guard. That way I can graduate basic training with at least a fitness distinction.

Anyway... I need to head off and print things out.
Now that I am feeling better I should be online more often.

WOOHOO!
I just completed week two of my running programme. (Based on the programme the USAF recommend for folk before they go into basic training.)

This week went:
2 minute sit-up push up intervals
5 minute walk
5 minute jog
4 minute walk
5 minute jog
3-5 minute walk

My main focus was on jogging while breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth.
I've had a hard time with that because the climate here is SO much drier than I am used to and because the elevation is so much higher.

Now, today at least, I managed to do the entire thing breathing in through my nose 99.9% of the time. (I gasped once.)

WEEK 3 should look like this:
2 minute sit-up push up intervals
4 minute walk
4 minute jog
5 minute walk
5 minute jog
3-5 minute walk

But I'll be honest, I made a mistake and was already doing Week 2 but with MUCH shorter breaks for walking than I was meant to do. So I am going to go ahead and skip right to Week 4.
So, as of Monday, I'll be doing this:

4 minute sit-up push up intervals
4 minute walk
6 minute jog
4 minute walk
6 minute jog
3-5 minute walk

I'm definitely ready to step it up on the push ups as well as the jogging. And I know I will be just fine. But I am going to have to work on the sit-ups. I can do it without any fear of injury, but I want to get my technique just right. So I am going to do both regular sit ups and the 2 part sit ups I used to do in my strength training.

I'm happy with my progress on this.
I'm also happy with my progress with my weights. I've managed to up the amount of reps I can do with the same weight, but I'm not quite up to increasing the weight yet.
That will come with time. I am just happy to see progress.

Thank you very much!
My week is going well and I'm happy with my progress. And being back online and settled helps a lot, too.

I'm glad you're finally back online. Nice to hear from you.

Well, workouts just became a lot harder. And more fun.
Diane and I picked up my new weight set on Saturday. (I got it on Craigslist and it was a steal.)
I expected just the weights and a standard bench, but it was a good, big set and I can do leg presses as well as squats and various other things. w00t.

I've also started week 2 of my running workout. So my running days are starting like this:

WEEK 2:

2 minute sit-up push up intervals
5 minute walk
5 minute jog
4 minute walk
5 minute jog
3-5 minute walk

I can breathe through my nose a little longer, now, but I still have a lot of work to do. I have time, though. And I know I will get back to my best fitness level.

The other issue I am having is sit-ups. I simply don't have the abdominal strength I used to.
I had expected to recover it a lot sooner so I called my surgeon to ask his advice. It turns out that my muscles weren't just moved during surgery, they had to cut them. So I have actually recovered more ab-strength than most people do by this time.
It's just going to take work and patience.

Well, it's been a long time since I was on here. I lost my internet connection for a while and then had the move to America.
I'm finally settled in Boise, Idaho with my American wife and I couldn't be happier.
I've got a very basic setup for working out. (A 10lbs plate and a 19.5 lbs rock)
HOWEVER, I am hoping to have something a bit better set up shortly. I just need to wait for word on whether or not I got it. Time will tell.

Anyway... now that I am settled and have regular internet I can start posting again and keep up to date on my goals and progress!!!

Aeee!

I haven't been around much in the last week because I've been so busy at work.
Just as I get some free time I get into an accident.
Today, cycling to visit my Mum, the chain guide on my bike jammed and broke and I went skidding along the road on my right leg for about 10-15 metres.

My leg is badly and deeply grazed all along the calf and I got a cut down to the bone on my knee which needed stitched.
To make it worse, I also bruised/twanged one of my lateral/abdominal muscles while it happened so that has been aching all day.

I'm just doing what exercises I can and trying to be gentle with the injured areas.

Dang.

Well, I am finally back online and working on catching up with everything I missed.
I've been doing well. I've built some muscle so while I did go town to 157 I am now back up to 159.
I've been going running every morning and have finally got my biceps and my forearms caught up with my triceps so I am glad with that.
I need to work on more definition and lose the flab I still have around my hips and stomach, but I am getting there.

Here's a recent picture.

I've also found an old Reebok ad on youtube that I hadn't seen in years and which spurred me on.

Thank you for the congratulations, Lilac. I am happy with my progress and I see you have been doing well, too! How is your wrist doing?

My buddy is fairly busy so doesn't seem to get on much. That's fine by me but I wouldn't mind another buddy either. I'll leave it up to you since I know you are busy, too.

Thanks for the compliment, Lilac. The comb did take a lot of time, but it was more than worth it. My wife has VERY long hair and does a lot to take care of it, so the comb was going to be a special gift.

Also, I should hopefully be back online at the end of the week.
In the meantime I have dropped down to 159 LBS and have a good and steady workout going!
Woo.

I am still making sure to eat smart and to work out every day.
I am doing well and I can see the changes!

Well, it seems to me that it's about time I put a more detailed post in here.

A few years ago I was morbidly obese. Then I got reallllly skinny. Like... too skinny. Then I got into pretty good shape.
Here are some pictures . They go something like: 2001, 2005 and 2007.
img.photobucket.com/albums/v3
36/Dreadg
erbil/Previousjourney.jpg

Then I got injured and all of the weight piled on.
So these pictures go July 2007, March 2008 and July 2008.
img.photobucket.com/albums/v3
36/Dreadg
erbil/Weightlossthing.jpg

I'm still a bit stout around the middle, but you can see how much weight I've lost.
(About 30lbs since March. 25lbs since I started measuring in April.)
Most of it is thanks to finding Sparkpeople way back in April. It really helped me to keep a track of things and have other people to talk to who were dealing with the same stuff.
I have 25lbs to go, but I am also building muscle so I will gain some of that back.
I am aiming to be just a little lighter than I am now but fairly muscular and with a healthily low bodyfat percentage by November of this year.
Here's a picture of my goal build. Not too toned and a decent amount of bulk.
img.photobucket.com/albums/v3
36/Dreadg
erbil/Goal.jpg

So I am getting there and I am happy.
The aim is to be Army Fit once again and to be as strong and capable as I can be.
Once I'm settled in America I'll be joining a group I know of there who train for and compete in Scottish Heavy Athletics. I miss competing in Highland games and it is good for getting in shape, so that will help a lot.
I've also had help from a friend of my wife to find some martial arts to get into once I am in Boise.

I'm happy with my progress and I'm feeling like this is totally possible now that I've changed the way I look at food and fitness as part of my life.

Thanks Lilac!
I love woodworking but at the moment my tools consist of A knife, some sandpaper and a dremmell tool.
I decided I wanted to do woodworking and would teach myself about 2 years ago but didn't want to ever buy the tools knowing I would be moving to America. But I will be getting them just as soon as I get there.

Here's some of the stuff I've made:

Well, I'll start with the bad news.
The last two days have seen me eating badly and not working out as much as I should.
I made sure to complete week 2 of 100 Push ups and I am doing really well!
I was having trouble sleeping and some other problems at home, but everything is all sorted out, now.
However, I fractured my wrist and broke my ring finger again. (It got broken when I got mugged at new years.)
It's strapped up and I consulted with the doctor to make sure I had a workout plan working around it.
It just means things are going to take longer than I hoped.

The good news!
I managed to finish the basic version of my website!
It took a lot of work but I have a basic Geocities version up so that I can play around with the format and the articles and stuff until I am happy with it. Then it will go on the proper domain.
There's still a good bit to be uploaded to each section and it's ever expanding in general, but it means I can get opinions and figure out exactly what I'm going to do with everything.
geocities.com/heathenman@ymail.com

That's it for today!

O.K. My first proper post on here!

As of today I am 165lbs. (I am 5'4" and 25 years old.)

Today I've had a fairly laid back day.
I've done my weights for the day and I'm half way through the second week of www.hundredpushups.com and I'm doing well.
I really enjoy it and it has helped me to perfect my form and get the best out of my push-ups.

I spent a while doing some relaxing woodworking. (One of my favourite things)
A friend of mine wanted a proper shillelagh because he is interested in getting into Stick fighting. So I have been working on that.
I got a nice Oak bough (oak for protection, aye?) from a local area where some trees were getting trimmed and have used that. The wood is curing just now.
Woodworking is such a relaxing and spiritual thing for me. I love working with my hands and seeing something appear from the fresh-scented wood shavings and how the hand tools gently form it.
Ahhh.

I also contacted a friend of my wife who does MMA in Eugene, Oregon. He has put me in touch with someone in Boise so that I can get back into some hand to hand martial arts when I get there.

I did mean to spend some time practicing with my sword, but I didn't sleep very well last night so I decided not to push myself too much.

I also got a lot of work done on my website. (It will be www.HeathenMan.com but isn't uploaded yet.)
Since I changed my mind around of hwo to approach it everything has come so much easier.
I'm happy with what I've got so far. I plan to get the initial site up as a geocities site over the weekend just to show friends and so I can see how it all works together and get advice.
Then I will ask my sister the super web designer to help me get it uploaded to the domain itself.

The sword-work can happen tomorrow. For now I am going to go back to reading my book.

First, thanks to Lilac for setting this up for me.
I hope your wrist gets better soon!

Second, I suppose I better get a good first post going on this.

My name's Arlen and I'm a 25 year old Man from Scotland. I'm married to a beautiful American and I'll be moving from Scotland to Idaho in mid-September.

After some severe injuries and getting diagnosed with a gluten intolerance I am finally starting to lose weight and get back into shape.

I take being a Man pretty seriously and it feels good to start being more capable after so long being unfit.

So I'll be keeping this up to date with my progress!

It is the duty of a gentleman to know how to ride, to shoot, to fence, to box, to swim, to row and to dance. He should be graceful. If attacked by ruffians, a man should be able to defend himself, and also to defend women from their insults ---
