It depends on the trail you use but when we are there for the Providence 5k we have a path we take that is one time around and is the correct 3.1 miles. It is from the pavilion up at the front of the park. I would like to get my own measurement. Maybe during the week I can head over and do that. *rofl* I'm such a nut!

We will go with that for now, then. Dang...I liked it a lot better when it was 1.6! When we did the lupus walk there several years back they had it marked out for us to do it twice and called it a 5K...but they could have been off as well!

Hey Sarah, what did you use to measure this. I'm so happy to have people share information and don't want to dispute you, but we've measured it at 1.6 miles per lap...but we could be wrong!

Message for Team Stamina (slower walkers):

Be advised that this Saturday we will be walking definitely 2 laps (3.2 miles) which is equivalent to a 5K! That's about 25% of how far we have to walk on game day. IF anyone is able to and wants to we will amp it up to 3 laps (4.6 miles) which is 7.4K - roughly 1/3 the distance on our big day. If we don't do the 3 laps this Saturday, we will definitely be doing them on the following Saturday. It's time to ramp it up! emoticon emoticon

Hey all I won't be there tomorrow after all. Sophia is just not feeling well and hasn't been resting well. I don't want to take her out in the weather at all tomorrow since the high will only be about 54. So far tonight she is sleeping better since she has a vaporizer in her room but after 2 nights and 2 days of nearly no sleep I don't want to risk her going from allergies to something worse. I'll get my walking in when everyone is up and my hubby can watch her while I go walking. Sorry!

Leslie the elliptical doesn't have an impact and walking does so that is most likely why he was feeling it. He does need to be walking on solid ground to even out what the elliptical does. My friend who is a sports medicine doctor says you should never completely stick to an elliptical. They ONLY use them in her practice for initial rehabilitation after surgery or injury and then move off of that to either a treadmill or walking on a solid surface. It is really bad for the body to stay only on an elliptical.

Had a great time on Saturday. I'm just sad that I won't be able to join you all for the next 5 weeks unless they change my son's basketball schedule again. I don't think my husband will be joining us again...he claimed I was trying to kill him. His thing is the elliptical and that 3 mile walk did him in even though he gets more miles in on the elliptical, I don't understand.

Just a note to all who are part of the group and NOT already going to be with me on Saturday 3/3 for Walk MS: San Antonio...you can join the Walk if you want! You don't have to be on a team and don't have to register before the day of. If the group chooses to go down to the AT&T Center next Saturday the Walk will start at 9. You can register at the event and while you don't HAVE to do any fundraising you can donate at the event as well. (New thing Teresa...Day of...Give Green Go Orange campaign!) We would LOVE to have you! Heck then my mom would have a group to walk with (Team Stamina) since her two walking buddies either haven't responded to my summons or aren't able to be there. Thanks!

Deb - I used to wake up with big headaches all the time, until I saw my new chiropractor! I suffered for YEARS! He did some x-rays and showed me how my neck was all out of whack. After he cracked my neck a few times, I RARELY have a headache! If you want some info about him, just let me know. In the meantime, I hope you feel much better soon!

Sadly no but I'm on the home stretch with Walk MS and after next Saturday I will be able to get back on weekday working out. I'm working hard to get silent auction items in today (final day to turn them in) and then I have to pull together our team t-shirt design and then actually DO the shirts! I have little time left. Then most of the week next week I'll be pounding the pavement to get some more donations (anyone feel interested in donating to me or Sophia????) so I can not only hopefully meet my $500 goal but surpass it! See you Saturday though!

Has everyone been able to keep up with their mid week walking? I found it very difficult last week because of my knee. I could tell the difference when I walked Wednesday. I wasn't as fast and really felt it as I pushed to get to the 2 mile mark. Anxious about walking further than that at this point, but still so excited to be meeting up with everyone tomorrow!

So happy about all the new sign ups! See everyone on Saturday 9:00 a.m. at the Al Becken Pavilion at McAllister. Please plan on being prompt so we have time for some quick hellos before stretching exercises which from there go straight into walking. Remember, rain or shine, the training goes on!

Those of you doing mid week walks on your own, keep up the great work. If you haven't made it to a Saturday training meet, make sure you are keeping up on your own. Team Stamina is currently doing 1.5 at the meets and 1 mile midweek. Team Speed is doing 2 miles at the meets and 1.5 miles midweek.

Guys I cannot open the spread sheet at all! I've tried every link you guys have put in and none work for me. Can someone send me the actual spread sheet to my email? Thanks!

Also sorry I wasn't there yesterday - I had posted I wouldn't be there because I'm on the Walk MS: San Antonio planning committee and we had a team captain event on fundraising. There will be several Saturdays I won't be able to make it - including the Walk on March 3rd. I will be doing my mid-week walks at St. Mary's University and at Woodlawn Lake if anyone wants to join me on them. I try to get out to walk every day but sometimes Sophia isn't accommodating. I will be doing my walks probably on Tuesday and/or Thursday though this week will have to be on Wednesday as I'll be dealing with a funeral on Tuesday and a Walk event on Thursday. Thanks!

I am so glad I made it toay guys! It was great to get out there with y'all. I'm off next week because of my book club, but I'll be back the week after that! I'll keep up with my mid-week walks too. :)

And where was everyone today? Did you forget today was Day 1 of TRAINING?!?! Thanks to those that did show up, y'all did FANTASTIC! So proud of each and every one of you! We're getting off to a great start! If you forgot about today, you'll have some catching up to do! Remember that training is to go on RAIN or SHINE! It rained on us today, but we kept right on walking and jogging!!! Go Team Stamina and Team Speed!

REMINDER: Our first "official" group training meet up is tomorrow. That's Saturday, February 4th at 9:00 a.m.

We will be at Al Becken Pavilion at McAllister Park. Please be prompt. We will have general hellos and some light stretching at 9:00 and then will break into our teams and get moving down the path!

Anyone needing help or information can text or call me in the morning. My number is 210-844-6126. I will be gathering your names and phone numbers in the morning either before or after the walk so that we can text any changes or new information to you about upcoming walks.

Susan, make sure you declare this in the 13.1 thread (the sticky topic at the top of this forum) so you aren't missed when we add up the members.

Just a reminder in case anyone missed it on the sign up thread. There is a spreadsheet Lillie made available that lists the Saturdays we are meeting and what each team will be doing on that day. It also tells you what you are expected to walk at least once midweek. You can contact a leader to add where you are walking and when on the spreadsheet if you want to give others the opportunity to walk with you. Here's the link:

Big gulp of air, breathe out andddddd commit. I want to join up for the 13.1 Half Sparkathon. But...McAllister Park is pretty far for me to drive. Soooo...here's what I'm going to do if its alright with everyone.

I live literally down the street from Rimkus Park in Leon Valley. I'm going to drag my beloved Tom along with for walks in the park. We both will wear pedometers to ensure we are going the distance.

I would like to join Team Stamina and make Thursday my mid-week walk.

Amanda, remind me to get your phone number on Saturday so I can call or text you if I am going to be able to show on Tuesdays or Thursdays. My schedule is erratic EVERY week between Dad's doctor appts, his weekly labs, nurses and therapists, not to mention whether or not I have David being determined by Carly's work and class schedules. I plan to get OUT and walk at least one time per week, preferably two. If I don't make Comanche Lookout when you are available I will post at least a day in advance when I will be out there for anyone who might want to join me.

I'm using the stationary bike here at home to work on my endurance and lung capacity. It's not walking, but it will help!

I will be doing mid-week walks at Comanche Lookout Park both on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Thursday the time is flexible (though must be before 2:30 as I have to be home for my kids after that). Tuesday is a little less flexible but I'm not sure yet if I'll be walking around 8am or 1pm.

If anyone's interested in doing C25K training, I'm also doing this out at Comanche on MWF mornings. I know this will be another thread somewhere at some point, but I don't see it up yet, so I figured I might as well include it.

I will be doing my mid-week walks alternating between O.P. Schnaebel Park and the UTHSC track for anyone who is interested! I will be walking in the evenings most likely until summer comes and things heat up. If you're in the area and would like to join, just let me know!
