I like the powergel gummies very easy to chew. I have also used the sharkies,I tried the sports beans the beans are too hard to eat while running. I am going to try the gu chomps this race. they have been pretty good for training.

Since Academy is the only place I have found the Stinger products so far, I may need to make a trip out there one evening this week to pick some up before my half this weekend. I used the last of my gels on my run Sunday, so I definitely have to get SOMETHING this week. LOL

I tested the chomps/stingers this weekend and here is what I found:

I fueled normally (half banana and slice of bread with PB and water) headed out the door for 18 miles. I got hungry at my normal distance (3-4 miles) I started with the honey blossom stinger chews and they were easy to chew and swallow. They definitly worked better than GU's to keep me from feeling like I want to eat a tree. lol!
That pack lasted me up to 12 miles or so then I tried the GU chomps. They were much harder to chew/swallow and didn't seem to last as long. I did 18 miles with 2 1/2 packs.

I do the same pre-run as most of you are saying. Anything GU brand messes with my tummy big time. I use Shot Bloks and yes, messy to get out of my teeth, but seem the best for my GI so far. But by the time I hit mile 11 or so, I'm NOT putting any more of that stuff in me! I'm anxious to try Honey Stinger products once I start building the mileage again. Overall, I am still trying hard to get the right "mix" for fueling during runs. I can't get it right for a HM yet, how can I even attempt a full? (Good excuse, huh?)

I didn't like the chews either, it's too hard to chew, breath and run at the same time ( I know, it sounds like a blonde joke, haha)
I bought some and will give them an honest try again!
I got the watermelon flavor! YUM!

I've only tried the chops once, and wan't a fan, but maybe it's worth trying again if they won't be so harsh on the tum-tum. GU is just sooo easy and, I mean honestly... chocolatey! LOL

Suezette, that's what turned me off of the Chomps too, when I used them. They are so sticky! Plus. I wear a dental appliance thingy, so anything that is hard to eat is SO much moreso for me. EVERYTHING sticks to it. LOL.

I don't like the chomps because they get stuck in my teeth, then I lose all concentration on running cause I'm trying to suck them out of my teeth.

I talked to Kelly and she suggested that what we are using to fuel before a run/race is perfect. She also suggested that we try something other than GU, like chomps or beans. She has never tried the stinger chews but wasn't against them.

I say, get a few different things and test them out on long runs. She said the chomps (which I don't like chewing) are a good option because it's more solid but less harsh.

Sueann - let me know what Kelly says about fueling without GI upset. That's been my biggest problem with being able to PR! My times at Soldier (the first year) and Snickers would've been at LEAST 10 minutes faster if I hadn't dealt with GI upset and spent a good chunk of time in the porta-potty! LOL

I love the waffles too, Suezette. I have only had them a few times, but loved them. The only place I have found them around here is Academy and the closest Academy is about 25 minutes away (in Macon) so I don't get out there very often to get them.

Yesterday for my 16 miles, I had a banana and peanut butter toast before I headed out and then only used 2 Gu's while I was running... but seemed to do ok. I am trying to figure out how many GU's I really NEED on long runs like that... I've noticed that the more of them I use, the more tummy issues I have, so I am trying to decrease how many I use and still have the benefits. It's a confusing process for me.

I use the Honey Waffle Stingers right before a long run. They taste really good and I've had no problems with upset stomach. Just haven't figured out how to carry them on long runs to refuel. They get all crushed up in my fuel belt.

Have you tried thise stinger chews that Wendy uses? They are supposed to be natural and I wonder if those would be easier on the tummy. After the issues I had at that last marathon I need to try something new. I don't want that to happen again!

Maybe I can talk to Kelly about what would be good for fuel. I will shoot her an email and I will see her tomorrow so I will ask.

I get really hungry on long runs, too, Sueann... and I haven't quite found a good balance yet of what to eat before/during/after.
I usually have toast before, usually with peanut butter.. or sometimes just a protein bar.
During is usually GU, but it doesn't usually seem like enough to sustain me for really long runs. And too much of it messes with my stomach.
I am definitely open to suggestions on this front!

Short runs are a banana.
Long runs I haven't really got a pattern down yet. Usually toast with PB but I seem to get hungry easy on long runs so I need suggestions!

How do you eat to fuel your runs?
