I like that saying Tabby. I seem to recall perhaps my mother saying that too. Hmm... maybe I shall bring that up next time I hear the negative talk from family. I tend to just keep my mouth shut and let them say what they want to say but I don't think that is the best way to handle it. Maybe I need to ask myself "What Would Jesus Do?"

I agree with TabbyArt. If you have nothing good to say, then say nothing at all. My Grandma's favorite. My husband would rather stare, say a few words and shake his fist at those on the road who have no business. I keep reminding him, he will be in their shoes one day and some one will be saying it about you.

Boy can I relate--yes, it is hard. Especially when it is your child's spouse. It takes lot of prayers. I have a relative who goes the extra mile to say something negative about me. It is very hard to be civil.
I am forever trying to find positive things to say about people when I hear negative. I get this a lot from family members. Both my son and daughter are married. There are things I do not like about both of their spouses but I know that I cannot change them so I try hard to find something positive. It is hard when I hear my family speak negatively about other family members. All I want is for my family to be at peace with one another. I must keep on praying for them.
It isn't easy being positive all the time. However, if you stop to really think, being negative does nothing good--it robs you of energy, joy, peace, just to name a few. Everything that destroys. So no matter how things appear, being positive is worth working at when things are not going well.
