Thanks for article Sandy. I drink more than 8 - 8 oz glasses of water daily. I drank 48 ozs during dance class. Another 24 ozs after swimming and several glasses with dinner addition to foods that contain water. More water while watching tv and cup of herbal tea b4 bed. I drank 32-40 ozs of water b4 going to ER and doc said I was dry. He ordered IV b4 I could undergo test. Test showed small kidney stone which radiologist said would pass if I drank more water! I drink enough water to fill a kiddie pool and my urine is rarely light yellow or clear. I don't eat processed food or salt and wonder why I have trouble with hydration.

I read we should consume a glass of water upon waking since we are dry. And glass b4 each meal since water aides digestion. Doc that wrote article does not recommend drinking water during meal. He only recommends drinking water b4, after and in between meals. Never while eating.

Below is message I received from Suzy Cohen that might be helpful:

Suzy Cohen .....Dear Pharmacist.......Thyroid Rules- Thyroid medication should not be taken with anything but water. That's because there are numerous foods such as soy, dairy, cabbage, calcium-enriched juice, and other substances such as iron and calcium which will bind with your thyroid hormones while they are still in your stomach, thus keeping the hormones from moving on to your small intestine and then your bloodstream. Take first thing in the am and then wait 30-60 minutes to allow the hormones time to move out of your stomach into your blood. If you need a pill during the day (i.e. because you are on twice-a-day T3), wait two hours after your last meal or snack to take you second dose.

I came across this article about TSH that might be helpful. I was sent three articles on this subject but Mary's is the easiest to understand:

Thanks, Sandy.

Hyponatremia as a result of too much water and insufficient sodium, is definitely something to watch out for in the summer months. So your article is timely! Additionally some of us with hypothyroid disease tend to have problems with electrolyte metabolism, just the way we do with cholesterol, even after our thyroid medications have been balanced.

My sodium is often low enuf to trigger muscle cramps as I don't eat processed foods, don't salt my foods and sweat quite heavily in some of my fitness classes.
