LOL!
You can do it, girl... whatever you set your mind too.

When I read labels now, I look for caramel food coloring.
I found some in a brand of gluten free soy sauce... La Choy.
Also seen it in BBQ sauce.
So its not just colas that are affected.

Always sumpin.

LOL!
You got that right!
Wish I had a way of posting it here, but our forum doesn't support visuals.

I got an email forward ... "ADS WE WILL NEVER SEE AGAIN " sent to me by a friend. It featured adverts from the late forties, fifties and sixties whose attitudes are so dated as to be ridiculous to our current mindset.

One of them was for Cola.
It showed a toddler with his mom with the caption:
" for a better start in life, start cola earlier"
The copy below reads:
How soon is too soon?
Not soon enough. Laboratory tests over the last few years have proven that babies who start drinking soda during that early formative period have a much higher changes of gaining acceptance and "fitting in" during those awkward pre-teen and teen years. So do yourself a favor. Do your child a favor. Start them on a strict regiment of sodas and other sugary carbonized beverages right now, for a lifetime of guaranteed happiness.

The Soda Pop Board of America

Lets not forget that Coke originally contained cocaine... hence the name... and 7up had lithium citrate in it to enhance mood as recently as 1950. LOL No big deal back then apparently!

The more ya know, the less you trust.

Linda,

I don't really think its one thing that "gets" us... causes our body to make cancerous cells that our immune defenses can't overwhelm. I think its a number of small things that add up over time to one big thing... a losing battle with cancer.

As a result of this publicity, Coke is advising its caramel color vendors to lower the amount of the suspect 4 methylimidazole compound in their coloring.

A good thing for soda drinkers... and something that would not have happened, if not for the CSPI (Center for Science in the Public Interest). Thank goodness for watchdog groups!

Perhaps this publicity will get conversations started and give soda drinkers one more reason to quit this non-nutritive chemical brew?

Dunno... its like everything in life... complicated!

Maybe it is true and maybe it isn't. Remember that California has put a warning on most things. You have to have a box of salt handy when you read all the warnings California issues saying that it will give you cancer... They have lost all credibility for me! If we are worrying about colas then I think the sugar or the sugar substitutes in diet ones is a much more valid concern than the caramel coloring. Personally,. it sounds like something put out by the people who make the clear sodas... Personal opinions only. Linda

Well that is just ducky! I have never been a big soda drinker and now go for months without drinking any but what about those years when I did drink them?

Thanks for pointing out the information!

So I was reading yesterdays Health News article here on Spark People and one of the subjects was that the caramel coloring in beverages was thought to be causing lung, liver and thyroid cancer in mice and rats. However, the American Beverage Assn. says caramel coloring is safe in beverages. OF COURSE they would! HMMMM, interesting! Here's the article:
