How is everyone out there doing with their eating of really small portions? Has it taken you a bit to get used to it?? Since the pouches are small and one can only take in so much at a time.

My eating has totally been revamped. At over 3 years out, I can tolerate some Romaine lettuce, so I try to fit in one or two a day with protein added. Lots of protein, less salad actually.

No bread, cookies or sweets for me. I get horrible gas etc. I'm also lactose intolerant, but I was before the surgeries.

I'll have a Wasa crisp with peanut butter if I want a treat. Some Almonds, cheese, turkey or ham rolled up.

I've just re-discovered Matzo ball soup. Two matzo's and a cup of soup is only 9 carbs. Great treat and filling.

In the beginning you feel you're invincible with the whole eating thing. No matter what you eat, you lose. But it doesn't last. It's taken me this long and all this re-gain to discover a plan I can live with and an understanding of how "I" have to eat to lose weight and stay healthy.

I low carb. High protein. Drink at least 2 protein shakes a day, sometimes 3. I find the shakes make sure I get in up too 100 grams of protein a day. Which I need because of the high level of malabsorption.

AND VITAMINS! emoticon

That is a huge H*ll yeah!!!

I have totally changed my way of eating....my pouch only holds 3-4 ozs. I try to focus on proteins, fats, then carbs. Totally opposite than the way our society tells us to eat...but look at the majority of us.

I have also changed the way I look at food....and a lot of other changes also.

I can't tolerate salads yet. I eat a lot of fish, chicken, steak....depending upon how it is cooked....grilling rib eyes today!

At first, I was spastic about what I was eating. But then I learned to focus on my protein intake and listening to my body. So, if I want fried catfish, I eat it. There was a time when I thought I would be the only person on the planet to have the gastric sleeve and not lose the weight, I think we all go through that period.

I'm not eating too good lately. after my surgery on Aug. 17th I had the Gastric Bypass RNY I was eating pretty good but the past 2 weeks I feel like I can't eat in the mornings and seem to do better with my lunch and dinner although didn't do well with lunch today. I have lost 47 lbs so far its slow going for me cause I can hardly walk and have ordered some chair exercise DVD's to do until I get enough off where I can get around good. I found a yummy Lentil soup that is low fat and has turkey sausage in it. I will post it later tonight or in the morning. Hope everyone has a good night.

I don't watch fiber at all. I watch protein closest. I eat things low in sugar, but I don't watch my total sugar numbers. And I keep an eye on my calories, but I'm suppose to get between 1000-1200 a day, and I'm usually only around 600-800 a day.

I also do protein powders at least twice a day to supplement my protein requirements of 80-100 grams a day. I don't count calories but definitely watch fat and sugar intakes. I definitely miss pasta. My pouch can maybe tolerate a forkful but that's about it. I also go for protein first and then some veggies usually no starches.

I've always loved Whey Protein drinks - I often will do 1 or 2 scoops w/ice water after the gym because I go right after work and it's often too late to have a great dinner or 2 scoops w/skim milk for breakfast. *the breakfast part I started 3 weeks ago* My favorite is Body Fortress ... chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. Sometimes I'll blend it with frozen fruit to make a smoothie.

Do you have to watch your fiber intake, anyone?

I'm usually good with my protein intake ...its fatty, salty things that I have trouble with. I love Mexican food. emoticon

I drink a pre-made protein drink (from Costco) at lunch every weekday. I'm not having trouble getting 90-100 grams of protein a day, mostly from foods. The down side, I'm consuming 800-900 calories a day. Dietitian want's me to cut that down to 600-700 calories a day. I will have to make adjustments.

Talked with the dietitian today and what I took away from her, was that most people don't need to count calories, just protein. In my case, however, since I'm getting plenty of protein, I need to pay attention to the calories. Will probably have to ditch the protein drink.

By the way, I'm finding cottage cheese, low-fat cheese, and low-fat yogurt excellent sources of protein. Oh, and my wife made chili with kidney beans and ground turkey. (And yes, I added low-fat grated cheese.) Yum!!!!!

I drink Carnation instant breakfast in milk maybe once a week... but, I only go back to 'protein' drinks after a fill. I do eat a lot of the Health Wise protein bars and Greek yogurt and Protein BBQ chips, to help me get to my goal in protein every day. Doctor wants me to get 60 grams of protein a day. I usually get between 50-60 grams a day.

We usually grill almost year round. Usually don't between mid-Dec thru mid-to-late Jan.

I do have a protein drink every mid-morning. I get between 60-80 grams of protein a day. Another way of getting the protein would be a cup of Gen Foods International Coffee (Sugar Free/Decaf) with a scoop of unflavored protein. A bit high on the calorie count compared to a protein drink, but it's about the same amount of protein and gives a little variety. Another switch i've made is from 2% milk to Silk. I'm amazed how good it tastes on my Kashi cereal and the protein and calcium levels are higher

Do either of you still drink protein drinks? How much protein do you each have to consume? I'm a little sad it's getting colder here - I love grilling too!

Everything has change about how and what I eat. We eat at an earlier time and much healthier! We love grilling chicken or fish outside with potatoes or sweet potatoes.

Wow, since RNY everything about my eating has changed! I do focus a lot on protein and make decisions around my meals based on what protein count i'm at for the day. I do use the nutrition tracker after i eat anything so i have a running tally. I really try hard to not snack, but on the rare occasion that i do - i snack on beef jerkey - low fat, high protein

Have you changed any food behaviors? Have you changed how you cook or what you eat now? What are some of your favorites?
