Join the Circuit. Set up your own circuit at work or at home. You can use items
you already have for each station. Create 10 fitness stations. Spend 3 minutes at
each station then rotate. Repeat the entire circuit another time and you will tone
and lose weight after 8 weeks if you don't change anything else in your daily routine.

A Seedy Subject. You can meet your Omega-3 needs with 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed
(3,800 mg of Omega-3s) each day. Add it to your cereals, oatmeal, muffin mix and
smoothies.

Vote with Your Fork. When you eat fast food or dine out, choose the healthy options.
This helps send a clear message that people want healthy meals, making it more
likely that restaurants will keep these dishes on the menu-and add more like them.

The Days After. Use refrigerated cooked turkey within three to four days. Use stuffing
and gravy within one to two days. Eat leftover casseroles and cooked vegetables
within three to four days. Finish fruit and cream pies within two to three days
and cheesecake within seven days. Regardless of how many days have passed: If in
doubt, throw it out!

Lose this four-letter word from your vocabulary: DIET. Dieting is yesterday's news.
It is far better to find a healthy way of eating that you can maintain for a lifetime,
rather than going on and off diets. Your best solution is to avoid as much sugar
and fat as possible.

Nip it Before it Begins. It's cold season. If you feel a cold coming on there
are some things you can do to help reduce its impact and duration. Drink water
or juice. Gargle: Add a half t. of salt to a glass of warm water and make some
noise. Keep your nose clean with a saline nasal spray and take a hot shower. Over-the-counter
allergy medicines (like Zyrtec) are better than traditional OTC cold medicines (like
Robitussin) to help keep passages clear. Have 1 or 2 T. of honey within 2 hours
of symptoms. Grandma's chicken soup really does work and make sure you eat healthier
during this time. Light exercise can boost your immune system. Get ample rest
and avoid direct contact with other people.

Seeing it Differently. Change your mindset. Instead of thinking of the holidays
as a time to "eat," make the main event be your family and friends. It will move
your focus from food to conversation and you will eat less.

As Good as Pie. This holiday season, experiment with using fruit for your dessert
instead of pie. You can cut up fresh fruit and layer in a glass or parfait dish
using nonfat whipped cream between the layers. Or, have some fun baking pears,
apples, apricots, cherries and bananas. Slice, sprinkle with cinnamon and bake
at 350 degrees until tender. Serve with frozen yogurt. Kids can make these, too!

Plan Ahead. Be sure you eat before trick-or-treating so that you won't use candy
for your dinner. Allow yourself just a piece or two and put the rest away. Limit
your candy intake for the days following and even better is to donate your candy
to a senior home in your area.

Safety First. Halloween is a fun time for everyone. Take care in ensuring that
safety is your first priority. Trick-or-treaters should carry a flashlight, walk
on sidewalks and travel in a group. Wear clothing/costumes that are comfortable
and secure enough to avoid tripping or flowing into fire. Avoid houses that are
not lit up. Discard any open candy, inspect your bag of candy carefully before
eating anything and avoid foods that are not wrapped.

Snack--lantern. Get more than a jack--lantern from your pumpkin - create a fun
and festive snack from the seeds. Simply separate the seeds from the pulp, thoroughly
wash in warm water, spread seeds onto a cookie sheet, sprinkle with salt or your
favorite seasoning, and bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. The seeds, like
the pumpkin, are packed full of nutrition. Pumpkin seeds are touted as helping
to ward off prostate cancer.

Better Than Food. Children get way too much candy for Halloween (plus adults eat
it, too). Find something other than food to drop into your trick-or-treaters bag's
this Halloween. You can buy value packs of stickers, erasers, beads or rubber band
bracelets at the Dollar Store. If candy it is, choose lower calorie options like
Jolly Ranchers, Dumb Dumbs or Smarties-they trick you into thinking you are eating
a lot because they last longer. AVOID: Mounds and Candy Corn.

There's good news for you chocolate lovers! There is growing evidence that chocolate
may have heart-health benefits and might even help lower blood pressure. These potential
health benefits are attributed to chocolate's antioxidant-rich flavonoid content.
But not all chocolate is created equal. Cocoa powder, unsweetened baking chocolate
and dark chocolate tend to have the highest level of flavonoids. Chocolate should
still be considered a "treat" and not a health food. An ounce or so of dark chocolate
two to three times per week is enough to satisfy a sweet tooth and might even provide
health benefits.

A recent study found that nine out of 10 food advertisements shown during Saturday
morning children's television programming are for foods high in fat, sodium or added
sugars, or low in nutrients. Researchers also report that children eat more after
a food commercial than after an advertisement for a toy. Help balance your child's
diet by complementing one less nutritious cereal or snack with three healthy foods.
Healthy choices include fruits, veggies, whole-grain pretzels or crackers, yogurt,
peanut butter in moderation, or popcorn.

I love the one pound weights for walking too.

Fall events, like Halloween, can be fun times to dress up, enjoy parties and eat
treats. Here are a few tips for keeping your evening healthy and safe: provide
healthier treats for trick-or-treaters, such as individual packs of raisins, trail
mix, or pretzels (factory wrapped). For party guests, offer a variety of fruits,
vegetables and low-fat dips; use party games and trick-or-treat time as an opportunity
for kids to get their daily dose of 60 minutes of physical activity; and stay safe
by wearing well-fitting masks, costumes and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips
and falls.

Does the term "high-fiber cereal" make you think cardboard? If you don't enjoy eating
high-fiber cereal for breakfast, try using it as a condiment! Sprinkle it on top
of a salad, add it to yogurt for extra crunch, and use it in place of breadcrumbs
in cooking. Just a half-cup of high-fiber cereal can provide as much as 13 grams
of fiber, about half the recommended daily intake.

Should you use hand weights while walking? No! The risks far outweigh the benefits.
Hand weights can be a great part of your fitness routine, but use them separate
from your walk. Carrying weights will not provide the resistance needed to tone
your muscles but they can increase your blood pressure, place strain on ligaments
and tendons and may contribute to joint problems. You will actually be able to walk
faster without carrying the weights, therefore getting a better workout. Safer ways
to increase intensity include using walking poles or a weighted vest, which can
distribute added weight across your body.

Warning! Please don't believe the cereal food boxes that advertise the food inside
can deliver results like a prescribed drug. For instance, one cereal claims it
can "reduce bad cholesterol by 4%." Base your buying decisions on the value of
the food inside. Is it low in fat, sugar and salt and does it have 5 or more grams
of fiber per serving?

In Plain Sight. Place healthy food items in plain sight so snackers will graze
there. Set veggie slices and hummus on the counter so that it's the first thing
you see when you enter the kitchen to nibble. And, put the items you want eaten
in the refrigerator toward the front so they are the first things you see when you
open the door. Watch the difference.

Moving in the Right Direction. Eat the low-cal items on your plate first, then
move on to the other items. Start with salads, veggies, and broth soups. By the
time you get to the meats and starches, you'll be full enough to be content with
smaller portions of the higher-calorie foods.

Bring it Back. Coconut oil, as it turns out, is a great alternative to traditional
oils that are high in omega-6, like corn and vegetable oil. The properties found
in coconut oil like to be used as energy and are rarely stored as fat, making them
a good option. Like all oils, it is calorie-dense so choose virgin or extra-virgin
coconut oil.

The War on Sugar. If you take your coffee with sugar, try adding a small piece
of cinnamon stick or vanilla bean to your cup instead. It adds flavor without adding
caloric sweeteners. Top your breakfast waffles or pancakes with fresh fruit compote

The Social Scene. Brain games may be good to help ward off dementia but social
activity itself, and the complex interpersonal exchanges it entails that helps people
stay sharp, may be even more beneficial, according to researchers. They followed
more than 1,100 older people for up to 12 years, testing them periodically. The
most socially active people had only 25 percent the rate of cognitive decline,
compared to the least social. They also found that social activity was beneficial
independent of physical activity and other factors related to brain function, such
as age and overall health.

Iron Needs for Women. Aim for 18 milligrams of iron per day. If you don't eat
red meat, there are alternatives. Your body can more easily absorb the iron in
meatless foods if you pair your iron-rich foods with a source of vitamin C (such
as citrus fruit, strawberries or bell peppers). Good iron sources include 1/2
cup pumpkin seeds (10 mg), red kidney beans (5.2 mg), and 4 cups raw spinach (3.2
mg).

This is Cataract Awareness Month: Set Your Sights on Prevention. Cataracts are
a common cause of vision loss, especially as we age, but they are treatable. You
can help delay age-related clouding by caring for your eyes. Start by wearing sunglasses
and a hat outdoors. To keep your eyes healthy, fix your gaze and appetite
on fruits and vegetables; and whole grains, vegetable oils and other foods rich
in vitamin E are known to help. And, schedule eye exams when needed. The American
Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) now recommends that adults with no signs or risk
factors for eye disease get a baseline eye disease screening at age 40, the time
when early signs of disease and changes in vision may start to occur.

Muscle Up. Protein is an important muscle-builder AND it can also help curb your
appetite. When protein is eaten throughout the day, it keeps you feeling full longer.
Be aware of the kinds of meals you put together and make sure you include protein.
Ideally, you should have protein, complex carbohydrates (not bread) and "good"
fat at every meal.

and have everyone actively engaged in what is going on in the group. It can be
as easy as asking people to turn off their devices and respectfully keep them off

What is One-Half Your Height? The maximum size your waist should measure. Your
waist size is an important indicator of your health and risk for cancer and disease
so you need to keep tabs on the size of your waistline. Your waist should not measure
any bigger than one-half your height. For instance, if you are 6 feet tall, then
your waist should not be larger than 36 inches. Grab a tape measure today!

Non-meat Protein Sources. The Recommended Daily Allowance for protein is 56 grams
a day for adult men and 46 grams a day for adult women. All foods but fruit and
fat contain protein. One cup of cooked spinach has about 5 grams of protein and
1 cup of cooked broccoli is about 4 grams. Grains, nuts and seeds are versatile
and many varieties help boost protein content to meals and snacks all day long.
A half cup of shelled edamame offers 11 grams of protein, cooked quinoa contributes
about 4 grams of protein and 2 tablespoons of peanut butter offers 8 grams.

Just Breathe. When you feel angry, stressed, or tense take a minute to just breathe.
Deep, belly breaths can help get your emotions rebalanced and will send oxygen
to your muscles to help improve performance. Try this: Sit up tall. Close your
mouth, put your tongue on the roof of your mouth and draw a breath in through your
nose. It should feel as if you are bringing air in from your throat. Fill your
diaphragm with air. Hold for just a second, then slowly release your breath through
your nose. Take 5-7 of these every time you feel the need.

Back-to-Back. The weight of a child's backpack should not be more than 15% of their
body weight. The backpack should have two straps and both of them used every day.
And, heavier items should be positioned in the backpack so that they are closer
to the child's back.

Back-to-School Nutrition. Take some time to focus on your efforts as a family to
ensure your children's nutrition and physical activity habits are ready for the
year ahead.

* Breakfast is an important meal every day for growing children. Studies show that
breakfast eaters tend to have higher school attendance, less tardiness and fewer
hunger-induced stomachaches in the morning. Their overall test scores are higher,
they concentrate better, solve problems more easily and have better muscle coordination.
* If your child's school provides meals, take time to review the menu with them
and discuss how them can choose the right foods to build a healthful and nutritious
meal they will enjoy.
* If your children take their lunch, let them go grocery shopping with you so they
can pick out healthy foods that they enjoy. They are much more likely to eat what
they pick out.
* If your children are involved in after-school activities, pack a healthy snack
they can eat beforehand.
* Regular physical activity is also vital to a child's development. A sport or otherwise,
they need to get exercise on a daily basis at school and at home. Find activities
they enjoy or activities to do as a family.Educate your kids about the foods they
need for their growing bodies.

I know what you mean Georgine. My Drake is finally slowing down due to his age, but he really loves to get out of my yard and just go. The farther the better for him. LOL

i agree. that is always my first choice when i can do it. Brandy is still a little too brisk at times but i still enjoy getting out and she does set a good brisk pace. emoticon i hope to take her later, for whatever reason that pain kicked up when i just walked her around the yard. She wants to visit every tree for branches she can break off to bring inside. Then one of herbs has grown and is full of blossoms and bees so she wants to go and seet She keeps me going or i might just sit more of the time. Georgine emoticon

Fight Fatigue. Need an energy boost? Though it may be the last thing you feel like
doing when you're tired, it's the first thing you SHOULD DO -exercise. Even a brisk
walk can be more effective than a nap or cup of coffee at fighting fatigue

A Definite Honey DO. Pour a dab of honey on a cut before covering it with a bandage.
Believe it or not, honey has powerful antibacterial properties. A recent study found
that it was capable of destroying almost all strains of the most common wound-infecting
bacteria.

Decent Driver? When you are in your car for long periods of time it's important
to maintain good posture. To get your self in the right position, pretend someone
poured a cold drink down your back. Notice how your shoulders pull back and your
spine curves? That's the position your back should be in when you're rolling down
the highway.

good advice, i will remember that. My computer guy just left and i am in heaven with the new keyboard, still have to find my way around. I do like to play Facebook games alone and with friends and that is the one thing that did not improve with windows 7 He said to use this one for awhile and if i decide I want the games to come up faster he will get me another computer and we will trade and he will charge me the same as he was going to for putting windows into this one. I don't really want to spend the money but told my husband that the computer, my mysteries, my candles and mainly Morgan and my walks with her are what i enjoy in life as well as my family and friends of course.
I finished PT and she said we will wait 2 weeks and see how i feel and i can still come back if needed. I really think that therapy irritated that nerve and i am better off not to go. time will tell. Georgine emoticon

Weekend Fever. A fever up to 102F is considered mild and can usually be treated
by drinking plenty of fluids. But to quickly bring down a reading above that,
put an ice pack under your arm or near your groin. Icing either spot will cool
your body's core. It's uncomfortable, but it works fast. Then see a doctor.

Me either.

Keep the Willies at Bay. If you get claustrophobic in small spaces such as subways,
elevators, and that closet of an office they stuck you in, visit your local fruit
stand. A sniff of green apple may help relieve claustrophobic sensations. Carry
one with you. Also, if you're selling your house, placing a basket of fresh green
apples on the table may make potential buyers perceive the house as larger.

A Twist on the Definition of Recycling. You can splint a broken arm with a magazine.
To make an impromptu cast, place your wrist palm-down on top of a thick magazine.
Roll the magazine into a U-shaped cradle and secure it with tape, an ace bandage,
or long strips torn from a shirt. Then, take the injured to a doctor!

Drink and Drive. WATER that is. Use drive time to get your daily water supply. Fill
your water bottle each day and carry it with you wherever you go. Make sure your
bottle is the right size to fit into the cup holder in your car.
