I agree. I think this month they were simply poorly defined. So, I need to pick maybe two and define them somewhere so I can truly track them. And, tomorrow is the new month!

I think I've found what works for me when I'm not meeting my goals the way I think I should, is I try to scale back on the number, and focus on the one that means the most or is the hardest to be successful at. That way I can focus just on that one thing, without muddying the water, so to speak.

I'm still thinking about what I might want to do for November...it may be time for a radical change!

Good work on the rolling! I'm totally off on my goals and will have to find a way to track them better - mostly likely adjusting my Other Goals here on SP.

Good for you just taking a rest week in Boston. Go and enjoy the trip! Hopefully, they'll be somewhat recovered from the storm...

Cats and dogs....not exactly a match made in heaven!

Yep, October is almost over. I did OK with my goals...even though I think I slipped on the foam rolling last week. At least I did get to it a few days, and I had a massage, that always helps with the knots!

And I found out just last week that I'm headed to Boston next week for work...decided I'm taking a rest week, and not going to worry about working out other than just walking around.

I'll start a new thread for November, so think about what goals you want to carry through!

I can't believe the end of October is almost here. I'm recharging a bit with goals. I've been reading a lot lately that exercise helps with digestive issues and that's a motivator.

I'm finally doing better with the dairy and I think that along with some other changes have made a difference.

Kitty has been with me for years, but I think she's still adapting to this apartment and all the noises. When Troy, the bulldog in the apartment above, gets a little hyper it sounds like a small basketball team up there... all dribbling. For some reason, now that I know it's a dog, it bothers me less, but seriously, there are times when I wonder what that dog is doing. :)

Maybe she just needed to get used to her new home (she is a new addition, yes?)

I made a tuna casserole from the SparkPeople cookbook, and have been having that for lunch this week (except on port roast day at work, they make a good one, mustard crusted...mmmmm) and still walking to and fro!

Still foam rolling, and getting in my yoga and meditation most days. I have to go in early today, lots of meetings, some Corporate folks are here, and my boss's last day was Weds, unexpectedly....so we're scrambling and regrouping! In any case, I'm just delighted that it's Friday, and I have a weekend to enjoy after this!

Good for you getting to the class! Good too with the foam rolling.

I'm experimenting with lunch so the tracking is totally not happening...I may have to reevaluate my goals for this month.

I did get a workout in tonight and even put a little effort into dinner. I'm happy to say that kitty ate her food - finally - today and even the leftovers from last night. Hopefully, the trend will continue.

Yeah, kitties do tend to have a mind of their own! Good luck with yours!

Nice that you were able to get your walk in too.

I've been doing OK this week, will get my class in tonight, even if I have to cut it short, we have an out of town friend to meet tonight, but I arranged it so I can still get in at least part of my class.

And the foam rolling has been going well too!

Had to take kitty to the vet tonight, but I did get my walking done during lunch and a little walk in the afternoon. Alas, I think she's scoped out the kitty steroid in the wet food. I'm going to have to hope it's not noticeable when there is more gravy. Poor little girl - she's telling me she wants wet food and I'm telling her to eat what she has.

Not sure one ever gets the point across with a cat.

I feel safe, but it's still dark...I think it's just that aspect, not being able to see (and be seen too) but about half is on trails, so it's hikng in the dark too. I did OK tonight, and I do have my headlamp, but I'll have to see how it goes, I ended up driving most of the winter last year.

I did get in my strength training class tonight, and foam rolled before hand. Rolled last night too, at least I'm remembering that more!

I'm basically failing with the strength training. But, I'm doing other workouts that do strength training, just not with weights in a traditional sense.

I am cooking more and am happy about that. Today's foray was pizza crust.. they turned out okay!

I'd be a little nervous about walking home in the dark. Hopefully you're area is a safe one to do this in.

Not a lot going on here! How is everyone doing with the challenge? Hope it's going well...

I hit 5 days of my goals last week, meaning foam rolling, I suppose, since that's what I'm looking for to hit that button! I did get 3 ST days in, and have been rolling at the gym Mon and Weds before my class (since I'm walking in to work, and it's getting dark when I leave the gym, and I'm still a little ancy about walking home in the dark!) I've also been trying to get in a short meditation as many days as I can, not totally successful, but it's happening!

The university is between work and home, and I was told by security yesterday that there has been a rash of bike thefts from there. I don't hold much hope of recovering the bike, but you never know. I did file the reports, and will make an insurance claim.

No rolling yesterday, I just forgot, and then had leg cramps last night when I was trying to get to sleep! Hmmmm, coincidence? My plan is to get to work early today, do a short resistance training at the gym, roll, and come home and do my yoga. Should be doable, and it's Friday! Yeah!

How awful about your bike! I've been looking for another place to live and am checking the crime maps in the process here. Not surprisingly, the closer to downtown (where I work) the higher the crime rate. I've seen a lot of bike thefts. Really sad. Do you think the police will be able to recover it?

Ahh... cheese. I heart cheese, too. And, I'm missing it, but I'm not really craving it. I'll explore some alternatives. And, I suspect I miss it, because I put it in a lot!

Good luck with your dairy-free trial run, Adlin, that's a bummer to have those symptoms, although I hope you find what is causing it, I hope it's not the dairy, just because I love cheese...but that's just me!

I foam rolled yesterday and today, and got to the gym today, even though my trainer had cancelled our class (he's got the flu), I did a half hour of biceps, triceps, back and some legs, and threw some kettlebell in there too.

The sad part was, when I went to ride my bike home, no bike! Someone stole my bike the $%#^#$%stards! emoticon

Wow! It is October isn't it?

Alan - kudos to you for cleaning out the snacks. Babar - good luck with the training!

My goals for this month are to continue tracking (4 days a week at least) and exercise 4-5 days a week (in addition to lunch walks during the week).

A new one for me. I've again been having more headaches, stomach issues, etc. I'm now suspecting food as the culprit as I can relate an increase in these to meals and snacks. One food group that I had never really considered was dairy, but I think that is a culprit. So, I did a little research and it fits as do a couple of other possible food intolerances. But, I'm starting with dairy. To that end, I'm on day 2 of a 10 day go dairy free challenge (see godairyfree.org for info if interested). I plan on completing this challenge and I'm also going to look into other possible culprits. What I've found is that dairy is kind of like sugar - it's in a lot of things. It might be in my head, but I'm already noticing changes - for the better.

Great goals! Let's do it!

I did get to the gym and foam rolled after my small group fitness class (it was good to be back after 2 weeks off), so far so good.

Alan, I agree, after losing 160, 10 lbs is well within maintenance, good for you for cleaning up that man-corner!

Babar, I've been thinking about a turkey trot too, I did one a couple of years ago, seems like it might be time to do another.

I've never gotten to my actual goal... 155... well except for that one day when I had the stomach flu... LOL. This month I want to get to goal. I'll be doing that by giving up drinking alcohol... those light beers I drink to be able to watch Yankees games w/o cable at my local bar add up calorie wise... I also want to train to run the Turkey Trot this Thanksgiving. I know I can do it! And I always lose weight when I start to train.

Okay, so I realize that at 53 I'm really not a 40-something maintainer, but since I joined the team when I was 49, I'm planning on staying :-)

As for my challenge .. it's to give up my before bed snacking. It hasn't had any major affect on me other than keeping me from re-shedding the 10 pounds or so I'd like to take off (after losing 160, I consider losing 10 as "maintaining" :-). First thing this morning was to rid my man-cave (actually a "man-corner" or my bedroom) of the assorted sweet and savory snacks. Still have my Gatorade G2 and protein bars, but that's about it. Gone are the Starburst, Tootsie pops, and sourdough pretzels.

So my challenge won't be so new, but a continuation of my prior months, getting a minimum of 8 freggies per day, 3 resistance/strength training sessions per week, and foam rolling at least 3 days a week.

Today is day one, I'm back to work, and nothing can stop me today!

What is working for you? what isn't? Do you want to stay on track like you have been, or have things been slipping, and in need of a tune up?

Tracking can help, it keeps you accountable for what is working, and helps you reign in what isn't, so post it, track it, and let's have a successful October! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
