Thanks, my niece was telling me about the wii hula hoop, she enjoys that one as well!

I'm really sore today...off to a massage soon, I rescheduled from tomorrow, figured I could use a weekend pampering!

I did my Fat Burning Fusion DVD (Ellen Barrett) this morning, which is a mix of cardio, pilates, some dance and some yoga. Then I did some of the programs from the Wii. According to it, I'm "unbalanced." Which is one of the reasons I got it, cause I know my balance isn't great. Discovered I really like the hula hoop game. Maybe that'll help trim the hips as well. I realized I can also track my steps there as well, which I do here, but it might be fun to enter it there as well as it does try to give you and overall picture of what you're doing there.

I agree with seeing how the job goes and then deciding on what gym. Once you get a schedule groove going at work, you'll know which gym will fit best in that routine. Good luck!

Sounds like fun!

I did my Jackie Warner DVD today, turned out it was my only opportunity to really work out today, as my mom called and stopped by on her way back from a road trip to MN with my sister and 2 nieces.

I think I'm going to try to get this DVD or the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred in every other day. That ought to keep me going until I figure out if I want to join the gym at work or get over to 24 hr fitness and find a trainer there. I feel like I have a lot of options, but want to think it through, and also the work situation is so new, so I really want to see how it goes too.

Thanks! Last week was bad for working out - kitty cat to the vet, lending an ear to a friend, haircut, etc. Not even my little walks at work for a couple of days. Gads. I did do yoga and loved it. Clothes are still fitting well, but I know my weight is up a pound or two and I really need to start focusing on that. However, since I will be on vacation, I'm going to take some yoga dvds with me and hopefully do a session or two. I'm now setting a goal for something every day even if it's 17 minutes of yoga (my shortest yoga dvd).

I also just got a Wii with the Wii fit plus. I don't expect major workouts, but I do think it might help with balance and maybe even help me get in some strength training. We'll see. I set it up today and sampled a few and had a good time. Would beat sitting on my butt watching tv.

Maybe you can do some more gentle stuff with your back, yoga or stretching? With the vacation plans, you really want your back to be healthy!

I'm up and running at my new job this week, and my weight has been up, up, up since my week off! I'm trying to get into a routine, but it sure is hard with everything being so new, including being in my new home full time! I think part of it is I'm used to this being my weekend refuge where I could let my hair down, and now it's my full time home so I need to change my mindset a bit. It will happen, but I need to be aware, and make it happen!

Have a great trip!

I've got a an herb garden starter kit and a couple of "cards" to plant that should grow a garden that.

Last week was okay, this week is starting out slow, but it seems like last weeks workouts still bothered my back, so I'm taking it easy before I head for vacation -- which will involve a flight and a road trip and I really would rather be able to sit comfortably for that. :) Good thing about driving though is you can stop whenever you want.

I'm trying to gear up for the trip and map out what I hope will be a clean start when it comes to a routine when I get back.

I did a sculpting video today (45 minutes) that incorporates a bit of cardio. I use ridiculously low weights, but then again, I think these do what they're supposed to do, so I'm not complaining.

Then, I swept off the patio and repotted two plants. Realized how much I miss gardening and have resolved to get some patio plants. That with the new patio chairs should make a very relaxing place.

Backs are tricky, so good for you for listening to your body's signals and giving your back a rest. Those recumbants can be a good workout, it's all about the effort you put into it!

I was really feeling like I was slacking yesterday, but realized I was out in the yard all day weeding and such, and did a Spark-inspired RT session while watching a DVD. So actually I did fine!

Very true! My back is doing so much better, so I know it was the right decision. I went to the gym and did the recumbent bike last night. Wow. The ones at this gym give you a workout, which is find by me. I followed up with my arm routine, so I felt pretty good about that. It'll all fall into place, this I know.

It's about progress, not perfection, right?

I think we can push ourselves, and make good progress, but when we beat ourselves up for "missing" a planned session, or not making the effort we had planned (for whatever reason) that's when we start to feel hopeless....I'd rather feel like I'm making progress, even if it's slow, with the occasional good-hearted butt-kicking!

Ooops! I didn't really meet my goal last month. I'm not sure where I'm getting stuck but I used to have a really good routine that just doesn't seem to be with me anymore. Not sure what is different, but I'm working on it.

No stress, relaxing time is always good!

That's great! It's nice that the schedule works, I think that's the hardest part, is scheduling and making it a priority.

I'm just kicking back for June, since I have so much going on this month. I'm just doing what I can (I'm off this week so I suppose I have the opportunity to do more!) with the move, new job, etc. And I find I need some no stress relaxing time too, or I may just drive myself nuts!

I took it easy and my back is being nice to be again. Focused more on walking and yoga/pilates which does do some strength training. I'm carrying this goal forward into June as I really did make the progress in May that I wanted, which was coming up with a schedule that I could do every week.

Glad your rest helped your back, and good plan for the week, enjoy that long weekend, I know I'm going to enjoy mine!

I did my short pilates on Monday, and met my trainer (not many sessions left, since I'm moving in June....gotta get what I can now!) on Wednesday. I think since I'm off on Friday, I have more flexibility this week on my third RT session, I can go Friday or Saturday,

Been getting my protein in, and then too much snacking as well the past couple of days, I may be stress eating, lots to think about with the upcoming move....

I had serious back issues early in the week last week, so I took it easy. I did do my yoga, but my cardio and my strength suffered a bit. It paid off though as I feel much better. So, starting tomorrow!

I'm walking to work Mon - Wed (off Th & Fri) and that's about 4 miles round trip. So, I'm planning to do the Jackie DVD one night and then maybe a short yoga routine and free weights the next nights. Fingers crossed.

I got in my third for the week yesterday with a DVD called "the Parts Series" I did a segment called "glute camp" and I must admit it kicked my booty! I suppose that was the goal....I had to stop it a couple of times so hoping I'm not too sore today/tomorrow. But I feel good about keeping up with my goal.

And I almost forgot my post workout chocolate milk, until I started feeling hungry! Then I stirred up a quick glass....

Monday's workout is likely to be another quick Pilates segment from my 10 minute DVD. Monday's are rough with all the commitments I have....

The Pilates DVD I have I count as resistance training, since it doesn't elevate my heart rate. But then the Jackie DVD really elevated my heart rate and I called that one resistance too! For me I suppose it's more about using muscle resistance, and if my heart rate elevates, Bonus!

I did my Wednesday training w/ my trainer, always a butt kicker....they do a boot camp at that gym too, I'm just not here on Saturdays so I rarely attend. but it really works.

This week has thrown me off a bit, food-wise, it's "hospital" week, and we had a BBQ yesterday, and I went out for dinner w/ my sister on Wednesday....but I'm still trying to track it, although I find myself "guesstimating" more than not!

I did step on Sunday and arms. Then yoga. Then had serious issues yesterday with my back and have realized that step is probably no longer an option. I really enjoyed it, but will go back to doing the elliptical and the bike and perhaps some treadmill. Along with the DVDs. The one I did yesterday was very Pilates based and was good. Helped stretch some of my muscles out, but I realized it incorporated a lot of the strength exercises. Do you count dvds like this as strength? I consider it cardio cause I do get my heart rate up, but it also includes strength -- quite a bit of it even though no weights.

I have one of the Jackie Warner dvds and will have to incorporate it. It's really good. Mine is in segments, so if I'm time crunched I could do a couple of segments one night and the others the next.

Lovingit - I did a bootcamp through my gym a few years ago. I know you're butt is getting kicked! Good for you!

Outdoor bootcamp sounds like fun! (well, in a type 2 pleasure, happy when it's over sort of way)

I did a 10 minute pilates yesterday as my Monday resistance training. Jackie Warner kicked my butt on Saturday, I thought I was going to faint! And I have done this DVD before, so it's not like I wasn't familiar with the routine. I never thought 5 lb weights could feel so heavy...

Protein consumption on track.

Hi all, good job on the workouts,I've reading trying to catch up. I do a 3/day week outdoor bootcamp with some ex-military guys(they kick my butt) and I love it. We do a lot of cardio and body weight like push ups and pull ups, sit up and now we run on Wed no less than 3miles, whatever we can get in within the hour. Mind you I'm not really good at running yet so I hang with them but greatful when we stop and rest 1or 2 min. But I am planning on adding weight to my weekly workout on the off days not too much just need to add a little weight along with all the cardio. Keep it up you guys are great inspiration to me. jackie

Me too!

I'm at the lower end of my weight range too...even though I'm not really at the lower end of my calorie range. Maybe my body is using the extra protein in a different way?

Worked out with my trainer and sister yesterday, always a harder workout, heavier weights, good stuff!

Tonight I did a sculpt workout. Since the majority of the program used light weights I'm counting it as light cardio and strength training. I'm planning yoga tomorrow and something on Friday and will definitely be able to get the other workouts in this week. If nothing else, I'm pumped about reincorporating strength training.

so far, I am trying some new ideas, including not so long on the cardio machine....I did 30 minutes on Monday, and did my Polar test on Tuesday morning that told me I was at level 3, training effect, which according to Polar means I'm training hard, and need a rest day...so Tuesday I skipped the gym, did my grocery shopping, and came home and did a video off of Netflix. It was a light RT workout with very light weights (I only had 3 lbs).

My hamstrings still felt tight in this mornings yoga, but I did not have any cramps yesterday...maybe turning a corner?

anyway, good job on your program, Adlin!

So, tonight, I did legs before my step class not to mention the lunges that were in that class. Sit-ups I did after, so I'm feeling pretty good about having done arms and legs this week. My goal is two days of each, so I'm halfway there.

I hope the leg cramps are doing better.

Oh and a google search gave me info on chocolate milk, which is listed at 425mg of potassium for a cup. I just started using that for a post workout recovery drink, so I'll see if that helps the cramping (and it's quite tasty....)

I wasn't expecting the cramping, but then I never do! I think with all the fruit and veggies I eat it wouldn't happen, but it does, so I'll figure out a way to deal with it.

I skipped Saturday, and did my DVD today, since I was still really sore, so I'll just have 2 RT's for this week, since I the DVD was full body, and I see my trainer on Weds. Well, I suppose I could get 3 this week if I go back to Saturday, it was 2 for last week though!

I'm good on the protein intake, keeping up with that part of my challenge, but I do have to think about it.

Didn't know that about avocado, but I like it. Mine hit in the night and are in my calves. The whole calf just locks up. I usually wind up getting up and trying to straighten it out.

Today, I re-started the strength training and enjoyed it. I did a step class and followed that with free weights and a couple of exercises using the medicine ball at home. Once I re-start and make it a week or so, I'm usually pretty steady. So, hopefully, I'm good to go.

Avocado has a lot of potassium too....I'm thinking I may have to add some electrolytes to the water somehow while I'm doing my cardio, I'm a sweat-fest when I'm done. I get cramps at night, when I'm stretching, while driving, I even had to pull over on my way up to my boyfriends last night (I "commute" on weekends about a 2 hr drive to see him) and stretch out my inner thigh, it was cramping and painful....not good! Cruise control got me the rest of the way.

Potassium for the cramps. When that starts happening to me, I get bananas. Also, potatoes have potassium. Mine come in the middle of the night and painful doesn't begin to describe.

I don't think there are videos, but they do have pictures to show the moves. I got the medicine ball yesterday and will map out some stuff tomorrow and get it going for next week. I'm looking forward to it.

I have a Jackie Warner video and I like it. I like that I can do segments and not have to do the whole thing. I'll have to remember to put that in the rotation as well.

Are they videos? Whatever gets you moving, I'm sure it's a good thing! I just recently got 2 new workout DVD's one is Jackie Warner, so I may do that one again tomorrow.

I feel good about the protein, I'm really getting it in, and yet it's still only 15-20 % of my daily calories....

The only thing I'm noticing again is the spasm/cramps I get in my legs are back. I am being very diligent about hydration, as well as stretching, so I may have to try something else.

I always do so much better with more protein. Trying to concentrate on that as well.

I found some good workouts on about.com of all places, so this weekend I'm going to map out what I want to do and set-up a schedule.

Thanks! I was really struggling on Monday, it was just one of those rushed days....

Today was my regular day with my trainer, so we got in a good workout (my sister and I are training buddies) I think because I was late and we had a shorter workout, he decided to do a metabolic workout, Lots of sweat...

I'm also going for more protein, and that is working out well.

Good for you! I hadn't thought about the SP videos for strength. I did a 6:30 Cardio class last night and realized I should have gone early and done the weights before hand. Will do that next week and maybe even do up my own routine. I had the help of a trainer and while I like some of what he set up, not so much on the others, though it was well balanced.

Like the video idea for the house though.

Good job on the fitness test.

Yesterday was so busy, but I managed 2 Spark videos for my RT, I did a lower body bootcamp, followed by a core bootcamp video.

emoticon there, even if it wasn't quite as hardcore as I was thinking, in the end I figured doing what I could would win out over not doing anything...

Woke up this morning and did my Polar test, since it showed "full recovery" I did the fitness test as well, which showed my fitness level at "elite" I'm planning on tracking this monthly, now I just have to figure out the best place to do that.

For me, it comes down to which one will I be more consistent with. So if the classes work for you, go with that. It sounds like you have that sort of routine already, so that may be your better choice.

On the other hand, if there is no convenient class that works, then do it on your own. We can get strong! emoticon

You know, I need to add strength training as well. I've started doing more pumped up cardio in the form of a couple of classes a week, but need to build in at least one day of strength. Trying to decide if I want to do the class (it's a group strength training class) or just develop a program that I do a couple of times a week.

So my goal for May is adding more resistance training to the mix. I'm planning on 3 days a week, Monday, Wednesday (which I already do) and Saturday.

Anyone else adding something new to their program in May?
