I walked a total of 5 miles today! Did 4 miles. In 63 minutes !!!

I still am having trouble since surgery getting enough calories, I am not getting enough Carbs. Will have to re-examine my plan, I have cut out most processed food, which has really cut my sodium back. I stocked up on fresh vegetables and fruit, bought a case of oranges. I prep a couple days of sliced/diced veggies and have them ready so I just have to grab and can have meal ready fast. Takes some thought the day before which beans to soak/cook and what meat. Using more brown rice also. Started using chia seed Usually can do enough beans or rice for several meals.

By the time I get to go back to work I hope to have this worked out well enough we can still eat before it gets to late..

KJ, that was great with the taco salad. Those taco shells are very caloric. I go out to eat a lot. I have yet to ask for a box before eating. It's a great idea. emoticon

Walked with my honey this AM - didn't want to discourage him from walking so took my cue from him on how far. This evening I was able to get a good 33 minute walk in. Whoo-Hoo !

Tracking meals kept my numbers closer to range today - on the lower side but better.

We went out for a late lunch - I had a taco salad and requested a box. I cut it in half and put the half with the whole shell in the box. I used the salsa and just under 1/2 of the guacamole on what was left It was just right. Worked out good.

Hi NEWCHICK! I hope you are feeling better! I disappeared for awhile because
I needed a hernia fixed. I'm a little bit in the same boat as you are regarding
exercise. Once we feel better, we can both join in more with these competitions.

Absolutely, we're here for each other. I saw your other post about your gall bladder acting up. My youngest sister goes through that too. Hope you are feeling better and if there's anything we can do besides the usual emoticon and support, let us know!

Great job, Nancy! I try to pack stuff too. Really helps.

Very cold & snowing here today. I think it's 14F now, but was colder earlier. This morning before the snow started, I took the dog out, and walked/ran a few miles. I had a scarf and neck gaiter wrapped over the bottom of my face covering my nose and mouth. When I got home, my hair and eyebrows were white frosted from the moisture from my breath escaping. It looked really funny. Besides the walk, I did a workout video so it ended up being a good day on the fitness side. If only I can keep it up.

Jan - Great job tracking. I don't think 600 over is too bad for a fancy catered lunch.

I slept better last night and got up to workout this morning. I packed breakfast and lunch and a planning to track all day. Dinner is I the crockpot so no pizza today!

I know Nancy. The holidays are really tough to keep on track. Obviously won't be perfect. Just keep trying!

Tomorrow is my company's holiday party. Pretty big one that's catered with food stations and tables set up throughout the building. Yesterday was the holiday lunch for just my department, also catered. I let myself enjoy some things, but I still think I did pretty good. I tracked it (rough estimates), and don't think I went over for the day by more than 600 calories. Could be a lot worse. Stopped at the gym on the way home, but no other exercise.

I on the other hand had two days of a slip up. Not sure what caused it, but I know how to fix it. Back to tracking and hopefully back on track. No jumping off the food cliff this time!!!!

Sounds like you did AWESOME! Both with the holiday dinner AND bouncing right back!

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I've had stuff going on so it's been tough to get in the normal exercise routine. Yesterday we had a funeral mass that was important the we go to, but it was a long drive away as well. We also had a big storm forecasted for last night, so I had to do some preparation, just in case we lost power. We often lose power, but funny thing, I've noticed when I (over)prepare, we never seem to lose power or internet. When I don't, that's when it's out for days and days. Any, long story, we didn't lose power but I didn't exercise. Stayed in range.

Today I shovelled snow in the morning (DH was out there too). My SP tracker picked that up as a "workout" so I must have been moving. I did some X-mas shopping and then late afternoon, got in a 60 minute exercise video. Working on a healthy dinner in the oven so with any luck, today will finally be a *good one* for me!! WooHoo!

Good job Jan!!! I bet you left the gym feeling great.

Yesterday was a lame day for me. I lost track of my calories at a holiday dinner. I didn't eat much that I shouldn't have, but I am just too lazy to track, what two bites of this and two bites of that so on and so on added up to. Missing one day of tracking isn't going to ruin my life. I am very pleased though that I was able to stay on track. I passed on the gravy and hot rolls, alcohol and had only two bites of the dessert before handing it to my grateful husband. I did however enjoy two glasses of lemonade when I should have had water.

The worse part was I had planned a night of dancing for my exercise, but the snow hit and we had to go. I did some light exercising when I got home to keep my streak going, but that was all. I am going to hit it hard today. My scale is stuck and looking back I slacked on exercise too many days this week. So Jan I guess we both better get more exercise in next week.

OK, I have NOT been keeping up with the level of exercise during the past week that I have up to now. With the icy weather, I'm telling myself that's OK, I definitely do not want to get hurt trying to walk on icy roads. Not to mention, all the extra stuff the holidays bring (that's where it might be an excuse).

I am proud of myself tonight because I REALLY wanted to drive by the gym and go directly home. But I told myself, I will NEVER regret a workout (thank you, Candy!!!), so I stopped and did my gym exercise. I did walk outside or do my usual workout video, but better something than nothing.

Otherwise, trying to stay on track and stay in range, and SO FAR this holiday season, looking okay...

Candy, I loved your comparison to smoking. I quit smoking 25+ years ago, but at the time, had a really hard time. Eventually, I went to a psychologist / hypnotist who gave me a post-hypnotic suggestion to replace smoking with sipping cold water. Believe it or not, that helped a bit (although at the time I was motivate to quit but yet it was still tough).

Even so, I still find that I use that same approach (drink water first to see if that will help) when I think I'm hungry.

I stayed under my calories today. This is getting easier each day. At night I am hungry, but I am sure I won't starve to death. It may not even be real hunger, but I head hungry. I am just so used to shoving food in my mouth 24/7. People that are quitting smoking speak of not knowing what to do with their hands. I can kind of relate as I always feel like I am missing something. That something is the near constant hand to mouth movement of a person that eats a lot and often. But I am sure I will get over it, I intend to have a new hobby of shopping for new clothes on the "other" side of the store.

I understand Nancy, just try to make yourself track even if you go over it is a powerful reminder of how much we really eat.

Way to go Jan! Ignoring the evil pastry shows YOU are in charge! Isn't it cool?????

I survived going to a Mexican restaurant this evening!! I ordered chicken fajitas and ate most of the veggies about 1/3 of the chicken. 1 bite of beans, 1 bite of rice and 2 bites of guacamole. No chips and no tortillas. I probably could have ordered something more sensible, but I was late and everyone was ready to order so I blurted out my selection. I am not a huge chicken fan, but it was pretty good. (Well of course I like fried chicken. LOL) I did pretty good on my tracking today. Woo Hoo!

That's awesome, Candy!!

emoticon emoticon emoticon

I had a good day food-wise, ate my healthy snacks. Someone in work brought in pastry, and they were all talking about it in the hallway outside my office the entire morning and into the afternoon. Not only did I NOT try any, but I realized that I didn't even want it, So, I did stay in range. WooHoo!

Exercise-wise, not such a good day. I did a 20 minute workout dvd, but that's it. Couldn't go for my walk/run because the roads were black ice in the AM and evening. Ended up forgetting my cell phone when I left for work, and then had a longer than expected day at the office so I didn't go to the gym since I wouldn't be able to let the family know why I'd be so late. Today's not going to be much better exercise-wise. Black ice again this AM and tonight I've got a hair appointment. So I probably won't do any better. Hopefully Thursday, I'll get back on track.

I hope today was better for you. I swear I should have tracked calories a long time ago and stuck with it. Having to "Budget" my bites makes me think about everything I put into my mouth. I am so focused on making sure I don't go over my goal that I suddenly have no thought about eating junk food. It is just way to caloric. I need veggies, fruit and lean meat so I can eat more for my calories. You can eat a lot of apples compared to the calories in a Snickers bar. I guess I always knew this , but I just didn't care. LOL

I came under my calories by so much today that I made myself eat a little more just to be reasonable.

Oh, the cheese popcorn would be my downfall!

I was not so good yesterday food-wise, but I tracked it. I think (hope?) seeing it helps me to resist next time. Anyway I packed healthy foods today and I'll try to be better to myself.

Nancy I think I would have trouble resisting caramel popcorn. Caramel is one of my favorite things.

Thanks Jan. I try super hard to get as close as I can to the 1550 calories I allow myself, but I am not going to beat myself up when I know that I di 60 minutes of hard work in the gym. But I am glad you brought up the point about abusing that privilege. And going back to eat more because you have extra "work out calories". I will watch for this and try to make sure am being responsible.

I tracked almost everything yesterday. I got into the cheese popcorn and caramel popcorn that my husband brought home. There is a really good place in O'Hare that sells gourmet popcorn. I'm just glad he doesn't stop there every time he flies! I'm back on track today.

Yes, I think it's OK to make up with exercise as long as you don't let it get out of hand. In fact, the SP nutrition tracker has a setting option where it adjusts your daily calorie range to account for your calories burned for that day's exercise. I don't use the setting myself since I'm one of those people who could abuse it. Either I'd eat extra just because I had more calories for the day, or I might end up exercising more than normal if I wanted to eat something extra.

I went over by about 800 calories yesterday. DH took me out for breakfast and then AGAIN for dinner (yes, he's good to me, but as far as food goes, being with him is a challenge!). He tried to talk me into ordering the breakfast special: Lobster florentine eggs benedict. I was good though (eggs with veggies, WW muffin & fresh fruit). But, at dinner I did have two margaritas and some chips (bad!), although I tracked everything. And I got my normal Sunday exercise in, so I think it easily could have been a lot worse without you guys and SP!!

Jan, isn't it funny how going over on your calories guarantees that you will not miss your work out!

Nancy I a the same way right now having the accountability of checking in on this thread ad the others is really helping keep me accountable and disciplined. When I stray away from Spark it makes it easy to cheat myself out of proper eating and much needed exercise.

There is strength in numbers. emoticon LADIES!!!!

Once again I went a little over on my calories, but made up for it in exercise. I am new to the calorie counting thing. Is it okay to do that or is it a no no?

I think my problem last week was not taking the time for Spark. I do much better when I keep up with the challenges I've signed up for. I've tracked breakfast and I think we're staying I. For the day so that should help me stay in track.

Good for you, Candy! Eating out is such a challenge, that is awesome you managed to stay in range. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I had to guesstimate on the calorie count for the takeout, but I think I probably only went over by JUST a little bit. I did my workouts, though so overall feeling pretty good about it. Today's challenge will be ignoring those leftovers calling out to me from the fridge!

Nancy, good that you went back to it again. Such a busy time of the year, we're all going to miss a day or two, but as long we get back to it, it's all good!

I was within range yesterday and walked the dog, went to the gym and did my workout.

But this morning, DH said he wants to bring home takeout tonight. I'll have to take it easy today food-wise and behave later to stay in range. Or at least make sure I don't go over by too much. Wish me luck!

My favorite is chicken breast sauteed in fresh salsa. Who knew it didn't have to be deep-fried to taste great?

I did pretty good today. If you leave the cheese out of an omelet and fill it with veggies, it is very low in calories! Yum!!!

Thanks for joining me ladies! It helps to share the journey! I did great today. I made it to the store to stock up on healthy low calorie food so that I can be satisfied and stay within my range.

I track everything on Fitness Pal because I love the ease of it. But then I track my exercise for points and for weekly and monthly totals on Sparkpeople.

Keep up the good work. We won't be perfect everyday and maybe not even close to it, but I am certain that we can get a lot closer to our goals but logging and holding ourselves accountable!

I am tracking calories (nutrition), water and exercise. I have the SP tracker so that tracks steps too.

My goal is to get through the holidays without gaining, and I appreciate the support here & accountability!

I've been doing pretty good st tracking but tonight I was craving oil-popped buttered popcorn. I didn't measure so I couldn't track it. I'll be back at it tomorrow.

Thanks! You and the other ladies were living examples for me. I knew I should, but I never thought I could! LOL I think I tired once before, but my heat wasn't in it. My son just lost 85 pounds with no exercise simply by monitoring his calories intake. I love to exercise, so this should be doable for me. Thank you for the encouragement, it helps me more than you know!

I started tracking my calorie intake on November 30, but for simplicity of my record keeping I am going to count Dec. 1 as my first day.

Day 4 I am still at it. I may go over my desired number, but I make certain to drop it back down with exercise. I am so excited about this. I have no forbidden foods, so I don't feel deprived. I just have to eat a small enough amount to not go over my calories, or I have to pay for it in the gym! Either way I am in control and on track!!!!!

This would be a great place to record things that you are tracking such as your calories, water intake, or any other topic you need accountability on. You can either list the numbers that you want to track or just record that you did the tracking. For instance, I probably won't list how many calories I ate each day, but I will just record that I did track them. Let's try this for a while. If we use it we can keep it, if not we can just scrap the idea.
