It is hard for me once I eat something like chocolate or ice cream. It can start weeks or months of binge eating. It is frustrating and embarrassing. I am supposed to be an adult.

The thoughts we think are amazing. I keep falling into the same mind traps over and over. My excuses are usually because I'm tired.
Today I thought I could have just a few M&M's. I had a few over and over and over again. Somehow I was able to stop but I really consumed a lot. And they were GOOD.

Yikes, somehow because I ate the M&M's, I felt more tempted by ice cream.(didn't indulge!)

I can rationalize almost anything. My most dangerous words are, "I deserve _____." (Fill in the blank with whatever awful unhealthy food comes to mind.) Actually what I deserve is to be healthy and happy and junk food will not get me there.

Great job on the no sweet streak. It is hard!

I still have my no vending machine food streak alive. Today I gave it a look, but shook it off. I think I need a new streak. No granola bars except for breakfast. I tend to use them for snacks and honestly most of them are just candy bars in disguise. I bought a bunch of fruit tonight. That should help me.

Sorry, I still haven't made a Spark Page and it's been years.

Yesterday, it was incredible that I didn't have candy at the movies. Friday, at work I did have candy when no one else was around something I had resisted for days. I planned to try one because I would really regret not trying it. Ha! I ate the rest which fortunately was just 4 pieces. And this was after I had done so well in resisting birthday cake.

Candy, congratulations on stopping and letting it go. Everytime we avoid falling into all-or-none thinking it's a success.
I had two successes yesterday. First I didn't snack in the car. I drank water and my "hunger" disappeared! When I came home, I felt so hungry but it was probably just thirst after Chinese food!
I had a snack of pear and cheese. That was all.

Oh Laura, I need to practice what I preach! I did not stick to plan very well this weekend. I overate by several calories on Friday and then went to a seafood buffet on Saturday. I didn't pig out, but I certainly could have made better choices. Not to worried about that... Today however I was hungry and ate a bunch of snack crackers. No excuse, no reason, just gluttony. I stopped there however and didn't go into a "I blew it I may as well have a feeding frenzy like I would have in the past. So even though I backslide, I still feel strong and hopeful that these changes I am making will last a lifetime! Tomorrow is a new day.

Wow! I got through the night at work without any sweets.
when I got home I had a yogurt instead of ice cream. A portion is the same calories but who eats only one portion of ice cream!

Candy, thanks for the tip.
Unfortunately, when I asked myself if I would regret not having the chocolate covered pretzels tonigh,the answer was yes. (I conveniently forgot the other question).
Well at least I shared them.
I'd love to learn how to stop using chewing as a method to cope with tiredness. Even if it's chewing sugarless gum, it's still a form of emotional eating.
The good news is that I refused chocolate later on.

Laura two things are working for me right now.

#1 I ask myself if the cookie, meal, dessert or salty snack is going to help me reach my goal.
#2 I ask myself if I skip the above mentioned food item, will I regret it later.

The answer to both questions always seems to be no. I hope this helps. You did the right think by reaching out for help. YOU can do this!!!!

Does anyone else have suggestions o help make good food decisions when faced with temptation?

Candy, I'm afraid I'm sliding down the slope. Yesterday, I over ate at Golden Corral. Today I had peanut brittle at work.

We really need to find ways to guard against all or non responses.

Good job Laura, sorry you got heartburn, but glad you were able to resist the temptation of another price. All or none thinking is a slippery slope for a lot of people (Me). If they enjoy just a small piece of cake their entire "diet" is over for 6 or more months. Sounds lke you are doing great!

DH bought beautiful large cookie for me. I didn't eat it. Also I am not having the cookie dough ice cream he bought on sale yesterday. But especially tough was not having the dark chocolate Dove yesterday from a coworker. I gave it away!!!
It's so easy to think about how few calories a treat has. But the harm it does is mental not physical. Sometimes a treat can do no harm but sometimes I get caught up in faulty thinking and indulge for days

I had delicious dark chocolate covered almonds. They were so good that I kept eating them. Maybe I had 20. Fortunately, I stopped and I did not have any more candy or other treats!
On a more positive note, I avoided eating when I got home at 930 PM. I used my new trick of having a cup of herbal tea. Even that I have to fight obcessiveness with. I restrict myself to one 8 Oz cup only.

Recently, I've fallen into some "all or nothing" thinking.

I have a beautiful no desserts streak. It was supposed to be until a wedding I attended this past Saturday. At the wedding I ate the cake but I took nothing from the dessert table!
I decided to continue...
Monday was not so successful. We went to Mexican restaurant. Dessert was included. It was not fantastic but I ate the whole thing. When we got home after seeing a lousy play, I finished my cookie dough ice cream.
Yesterday was very successful.
Today we have a party at work. I plan to eat homemade desserts.

Even though I had dessert once a week during September, this streak has been very helpful and motivating.

I've been really busy lately as the campus is gearing up for fall semester. I've just had time and energy enough to hit my trackers and log in points each day. But I'm still moving along. =)

One week without hitting a drive-thru. I won't even let myself get a drink through the drive-thru. Now I haven't said no fast food (not yet at least), but the deal I made with myself was if I wanted fast food I had to get out of the car and go inside to order. And I can't have someone else pick me up something when they make a trip, either. Since I'm self conscious about eating in front of people and worrying what they might think about me when I'm ordering fast food, I think making myself go inside is a big deterrent.

Once I get 30 days, at least, under my belt with the fast food thing, I'm going to add no more pizza unless it is homemade. Right now what we mostly do is freezer pizza and occasionally get a take-and-bake. But I'm going to work on cutting that out too. It's too much of a regular thing right now. But pizza is what I'll tackle in August, maybe starting on my birthday!

That is a good one Raihala! If you start to pull into a drive thru think of us and speed out of there! I can not tell you how powerful this little streak has been for me. there have been times when I had a moment of weakness due to stress at work or just thought I was hungry and headed down the hall to get some chocolate or other junk out of the machine, but I remembered this streak turned around and went directly back to my office. I may struggle with other things, but I will not buy junk from a vending machine.
