Did this problem get resolved Karen?

We have a biter right now too - he is biting but not everyday. But he does seem to pick on the same little girl! But they both have words - lots of them. Not sure what to do at this point. Talked to both parents. The bitee is getting ready to pull her children. The biter really doesn't know what to do!

I have a biter, 1 out of 3 full time kids and he keeps biting the same little girl! Mostly it is when he wants something she has or he is Happy or mad.... or just feels like it. I can't bite him, but his parents remind him every day NO BITING! And we say it when he comes and often in the day. but he still gets her at least once a day. I work alone and can say honestly it has happened right in front of me, and I make him stand at the gate when I am getting snacks or a meal, which helps when I am not right there but he should stop soon, they are both still getting their words, neither is 2 years old yet. UGH. Mom of the bitee says, "NO PROBLEM!! But when she starts biting I don't want to hear about it!!" I hear her!!

We had the biter switch classrooms for a few days. (with younger kids) She seemed to do much better. The teacher reminded her alot to use her words. So far, knock on wood, no new bites!! I hope this continues!! :)

Yep - not something we can do. We have a little girl who bites the same other little girl 3 or 4 times a day for no reason.

Going through that right now with one of my kids. My parent told me to bite him back but I never had to cuz some of my older kids bit him back when he bit and that pretty much solved that

I love our tradition of cmas eve our chili & oyster stew and munchies and we always play a fun interactive game and presents. This year we may go to cmas eve service .

Helping my kids pick out gifts for each other. They are always thoughtful and generous (of course they don't have a full grasp on the concept of money).

no. We only have walking field trips but we do do sprinkler day and we have a water table for outside as well as the SENSORY/WATER tables we have inside.

If we have a kiddie pool, we have to have someone who is lifeguard trained! So sprinkler is the best for us.

I try to have them sit on the floor and me in a chair. I usually have them all scoot back a little so all can see. I also try to move the book around so they can see. Maybe even do it in smaller groups!!

Make it exciting - change your voice etc! My kids love me to read. We also listen to books on cd and tape and they get to take turns turning pages!

I don't provide the sunscreen or bug spray either because of allergy's. I know all about getting burned out. My problem I think is that I don't take any days off during the winter. This yr I took 3 days during Christmas, but it isn't enough. Dave and I decided that starting next winter we are going for 1 week somewhere, anywhere, just to get away and not get so burned out.

We had too many with allergic reactions. So my current boss thought this way was better.

I do have a thing of baby wipes but after 10 - 11 kids even the wipes start to smell - LOL!

Yes burnout feelings are very common for me- especially when I feel under appreciated. Or when I am dealing with 1 Particular parent.

Sometimes I wonder if this is where I am really supposed to be. Most the time the kids remind me with hugs - it is like they know before you do!

Do you all apply bug spray and sunblock to the children? How does that work in your state?

In our center, the parents supply the items and we only put it on them if their parents bring it. So I have 11 children each with their own bug spray and sunblock!!! I understand why we do it but boy it is a little bit of a hassle.

WE usually have sprinkler day alot in the summer. We have even played in the mud before. I gave them dirt and water so they could make mud pies. They end up caked in mud! Then we do a hose down and sometimes sprinkler if they aren't too cold. Our outside water is pretty cold. They love it!

Summer is a lot less teaching and more fun themes. During the fall, winter, and spring, we learn letters, numbers, and colors and writing and cutting skills. Much more structured. Summer is more about fun!

We only take through age 5 so we don't have any after school kids. Summers seem like they are going to fill up and then something always happen. Fall is the same way - except that you have those few parents that need daycare today or tomorrow and didn't think about it.

We have music and movement time. We listen to different cds, play musical instruments, dance with ribbons, and play simon says type games. We usually do this right before lunch, when I am getting their lunch ready. We have several different cds that we listen to. Barney is one of their favorites. Then we have a listening one - they do what the cd says. Then we have some silly ones. It just depends on the mood.

We do what I call "Dance and Music" time. We use our homemade instruments that we made and one that were made yrs ago, then I put in a dvd preschool songs and we dance around the room with our instruments. The kids love it and it also give them good exercise because I will ask them to march or jump....that kind of thing!

We have an Easter egg hunt too. But my favorite thing that the my class does is we get to hide the eggs for the younger children. They love it! Of course, then they love finding their own eggs afterwards!!

I usually get some baskets (cheap ones) from oriental trading or dollar tree and we weave ribbon around it to make it their own. It is always interesting to see what they do with the ribbon. They are so proud of their work.

We also try to dye eggs in many different ways.

We are going to be doing a center wide Tie-Dye project soon! Just hoping all the parents bring in shirts - I hate to see a child not participate because parents aren't willing to do their part. If they talk to me, I usually try to help them out. But some parents just expect that you will make sure their child gets to do it.

First we have an Easter egg hunt outside if it's nice, if not I do it in doors. I have them all bring their Easter baskets for the egg hunt. I will also put in other candies and a couple of little toys and things like pencils, coloring books. We all have a great time.....can't wait!!!

Ours can only bring things from home on Show N Tell day or other announced days! We had kids bringing in stuff everyday from small toys to money - now we nip it at the door.

I let kids bring toys from home and then I tell the parents that if the child doesn't share that toy then it gets taken away and most of the time it gets taken away. Tami, to answer your question about the infant room. I have 2 that sleep in the infant room and when I signed them up it was the same time.....this helps because they always knows the others cries and sounds. I have never had a problem yet.

We do it once a month. I have 4 and 5 year olds. But it seems to be a hassle - they fight or don't want to talk. But they want to do it more often. I think we will keep it at once a month. Some of them talk and talk and some don't even want to tell you what they have.

No show and tell here either. Funny, though, because my son (4) just asked about it yesterday - I think he saw something about it on tv. Besides him during the day it is a 6 month old and 3 2-yr-olds. One of the 2s is talkative, but the others don't talk much yet.
Instead, I try to ask questions about books we are reading or objects in the room that relate to topics we are focusing on.

Southern Illinois. We service a lot of low income families - not that all of them are bad but tempers flare much easier when in combination with these other stresses.

I have had a lot of bad experiences, but the good outweigh the bad.

I was bit by a 4 year old through my fleece jacket that left a mark that was still visible when I applied for my next job over a month later! And my boss at the time said it was my fault!!! The child that bit me was threatening the other preschoolers and teachers with scissors. I had to physically remove the scissors and hold her to keep her from hurting herself or others and well she bit me.

I have been threatened to be beat up by parents more than once! But the worse is probably having a grandparent threaten another child repeatly - mind you the child was a toddler. It was awful - we had to let her infant grandchild go because she couldn't get it together.
