Definitely check the links on diet and calorie ranges Kristin lists. The numbers are different for everyone (just as the numbers used on Spark Trackers are different).
You shouldn't be hungry though. Keep in mind the "goal weight" is your INITIAL goal weight (i.e. for the duration of this program) NOT an end-all-be-all goal (like losing 100 lbs or something). You still need to have fuel to support muscle growth.

I had to do cardio in the morning sometimes. As for the calories, they remain about the same except you start to lower starchy carbs. I believe it is around week 7 that she talks about calories for light and heavy days. Again I don't remember that starting til later in Phase 2. Kind of gets you ready for cycling and tweaking your diet in phase 3 (which I stopped doing).

Link for figuring calorie range (look below the workout section:

Also check out the diet for Phase 2:

Hope that helps. Woohoo on entering Phase 2!!!

Is it OK to split up the cardio and strength due to time issues?

I see a lot of you mentioning calorie range. Should 1600 be a max? Ive been doing 1800 and still hungry :/?

Thanks

Got two more workouts until I can "move on" as it were, but I'm so looking forward to being able to say I'm in Phase II! I've actually learned a whole lot on this program about my body and what it needs. And I love that I know I'm doing things right because I get sore in all the right places afterward. (Hubs made a joke of this, asking if I had a new boyfriend, but I told him that Jamie is my new girlfriend and she's making me get DOMS a day or two after in the exact muscle groups she told me to work. ;) )

I am stalled at day 31 due to work. I am going to have to put this on hold until my 24/7 call schedule slows down around mid April.

Today I finished the last workout of week 3-shoulders and abs. Grateful for the rest days this week- my back and elbows (tendonitis) need a break. Plus I need some time to acquire some bigger weights.
Definitely avoiding the scale now- went down 4lbs but think Im up one.
But put on the 'after Christmas' jeans- now too big. Put on the pre- thanksgiving pants and they fit again! So happy with progress.
Sounds like things keep switching up- looking forward to the next week and then phase 2.

Thanks LFF- my legs are feeling it today but I can still sit on the toilet and walk forwards down the stairs. The funny thing is I have big, muscular legs but they are always the body part that screams the loudest.
Did arms and abs and a run today.

Shoot- these leg workouts are already tough and you're a runner, aren't you? I remember the first week I couldn't kneel down unassisted the day/2 after. It wasn't that bad this week, but still I am a little dreading today--Legs again. That's definitely my weak area, so its good that its my 2x a week.
Good luck tomorrow!

Unfortunately, I can't help you with the food plan because I haven't been following it. it's just not that easy for me to eat the way she prescribes. I try to eat as healthy as possible, but it definitely is not aleways clean. Which is probably why i usually go somewhat over 1600cal per day. If i go under, i find myself craving protein. So, I have yet to find a good way to incorporate the diet into my lifestyle. hopefully someone else will be more helpful

I'm getting ready to look at Phase 2 and am a little concerned about the food plan. In the past I have obsessed over food to the point where I have spent hours with myplate planning every meal, incredibly stressful. With two children in after school activities I don't want to get to that point again. My body fat is at 17% according to the calipers, my goal is 15-16%.

Do you think I should just try to stick to a calorie range, with more protein? My problem area is skinny fat around my hips, very hard to get rid of it.

I've started phase 2 this week, actually, on Sunday in case I have a hiccup and can't make gym this week at some point.

The first phase was a little boring for me, but I pushed it on the weights, which she says not to do for the first few weeks. I had not figured out warm-ups for the first phase, so did a little cardio machine just to warm up the muscles.

But phase 2 I'm loving! I haven't done 30 minutes of cardio for ages, doing mostly more dynamic workouts and HIIT, but it is really nice to step back into the cardio. Can't do one machine for 30 minutes (seriously boring), but I'm doing some skipping (jump rope) to make up any shortfalls.

It is so lovely to hit my muscles from all the angles and I'm so motivated. Loving how sore my muscles are (in a good way), literally can't wait to get into the gym most days.

In terms of diet. I've stopped drinking calories. Not really following the diet, more an eat-stop-eat approach, because it keeps me in my calorie range. And is far less admin.

Started Phase 2 yesterday. That cardio was killer, but felt great to finish the 30 mins. I ran the entire time! :) Very proud of myself. Looking forward to some more intense workouts. This week is a little busy for me with "extra things" so I might have to shorten cardio a couple days, but if I do HIIT instead of just jogging that might be worth it! :)

Good Luck All!

I am finishing Phase 1 tomorrow, and I am very excited to start Phase 2! I am having a difficult time with the eating plan. I am in Afghanistan, and the food choices here are pretty limited. Most of the food comes out of a package or is fried. I have learned how to make better choices, and I feel really great, eating as clean as I possibly can, given my situation.

Some days, there is no grilled meat, and I have to eat deli lunch meat, which I know isn't ideal. I wish I were back home, so I could cook...I am afraid I will not be able to stick to the eating plan exactly, but as long as I stay in the calorie range, I am okay with that.Keep on going everyone, we are doing great!!!

I started Phase 2 today! The back workout was pretty quick, and it felt great/terrible going for a run for 30 minutes. Last week I again doubled up one day for 4 days of ST instead of 5, so we will see if I can manage to get 6 in this week. I lost 10 pounds in the first phase (some of that weight was superficial thought because I pigged out the week before I started)and am now at 153.2, and I am going to continue to follow the clean eating plan and stay in a calorie range of 1400-1600 so hopefully I will continue to see weight loss, especially with the added cardio. My hope is to get to the 140s by Halloween so I can rock my mermaid costume!

Completed Phase 1. I had to redo Week 4, because I was sick, but now I am all better and starting Week 5 today! Let's do this!

That is SOOOO awesome! I'm so proud of you for accomplishing so much already, MISSYSTAR!! :)

I think a lot of us in Phase 2 are having to make slight adjustments to the workout schedule. I did well following the workout plan EXACTLY for Phase 1, b/c 4 days of gym/ST seemed really doable per week. However, 6 days of gym is really really tough, especially when each session is 60-90 minutes to complete. It's just too much for me to feel very balanced in life.

Keep at it, and keep us posted about how Phase 2 goes!! I'm struggling with sticking "to plan" as well during this phase, and have a feeling Phase 3 will be even harder to stick with.... let's keep doing as best we can!

I have one more week of Phase 1 and then I will be joining you in Phase 2. I have really loved the clean eating plan and it has been very easy for me to stick to. The only tricky parts are all the shopping and cooking I have to do each weekend to prepare for the week. I've been struggling monetarily with it too, because buying 6 pounds ground turkey and 10 chicken breasts and gallons of protein powder and oats and greek yogurt and fresh veggies every week gets expensive! It is so sad that it is cheaper to eat crappy food than healthy food. Even if people want to make a switch, many can't afford it.

As for the exercise, I have been pretty successful with that as well, although this past week I doubled up one of the Legs days with Shoulders and Abs because I could only get to the gym 4 times instead of 5 in the third week. The same thing may happen this week, so I imagine Phase 2 with 6 days of long strength training and 4 days of cardio is going to be extremely challenging. I'm not going to kill myself over it though. I am not one of the hardcore people who makes sure the macros are perfect or sticks to the eating plan 100% (for example, I have greek yogurt for the last meal instead of egg whites and veggies and I have had several alcohol drinks these past three weeks) My goal will be to definitely get the 4 sessions of cardio in a week, and then aim for at least 4 of the ST days. I might take out a Leg day. We will see how it ends up working out. I've still got a week before craziness ensues.

I love how strong I am feeling, and I was NEVER a cook before, so I feel proud of all I have accomplished when it comes to meals and trying out recipes. Definitely a learning experience!

The food plan for me is out too. For health reasons, I'm trying out a vegetarian diet and so far feel great on it. I know there are ways to add in lots of protein without animal products, but it's a huge learning experience. I consider myself a beginner so I should have muscle growth since I wasn't doing much strength training before. It would be different if I already had tons of lean mass and was trying to keep that up.

The phase 2 workouts are much more time consuming so it will be a bigger challenge. I'm doing my best to stick with it though.

This team is becoming much more quiet lately so I'm curious to see how everyone is doing on the plan.

Hey there Team,

This first week of Phase 2 was really tough and is really putting a strain on my time - the strength workouts are longer + you need to add 30 mins cardio to them.
I'm considering splitting my workouts with ST in the morning and cardio in the evening - I'll see how this week goes before deciding on any change.

I'm not following Jamie's eating plan but was following the Clean Eating Magazine's meal plans - Unfortunately, due to financial pressure, I'm finding it difficult to buy all the food needed to follow these plans (which is a shame as I like them) but I think I'm pretty clued up now about clean eating and I am going to go back to cooking big meals that can last for a few days. Also, as we are getting into the cold months, it is easier for me to cook big batches of soup/stews - cheaper and comforting in cold weather :)

Em- I'm the same way with the food plan! I'm glad I stuck to it for the first month because I learned a lot about myself, but it was definitely hard not to "obsess" over everything. It got so all consuming with my thoughts and energy and was dictating my decisions and schedule, even. NOT how I can see myself sustaining and living happily. So I've ammended Phase 2 to "eating clean" with aiming for higher protein and lower carbs, still with 5 meals a day but not as obsessively worrying about macros. I don't need that stress!!

I'm sticking to the workouts as best as I can, although I find SIX DAYS AT THE GYM to be a little extreme for my life and schedule. Six days of exercise? Not such a big deal. I can fit in a little run or an extra walk or some yoga or even a workout DVD a few times a week to make it to six days without feeling like a crazy-gym-goer, but having to be there six days is tricky for my schedule and honestly I don't like it much. I did not do the second day of legs this week, and am not sure if I will make that a priority, or just aim for gym time Monday-Friday. That's a big commitment to me already!!

As far as favorite exercises, I've found that I really like the cable machine! The bicep cable curls, tricep push-downs, and even overhead curls make me feel like a gym-know-it-all (LOL)-- like I've conquered the gym since I use the cable machine!! I love how strong I feel using the cables.

Doing well with the exercises, though I skipped some cardio this week because I was sick. I decided to stop doing the food plan because I was getting back into old obsessive diet behaviors. I'm mostly eating clean and staying in my calorie range, also making sure to get enough protien every day.
I love learning new exercises, and the one leg barbell squat is my new favorite. I feel like a powerhouse! Has anyone else found a new favorite?

HEY TEAM!

For those of you who started with Jamie at the release of the program, we should be one week into Phase 2 so far.

How are things going? Are you still sticking with the challenge? Have you fallen off, and need some encouragement to get back at it? Don't quit-- just make changes as you need to find YOUR OWN PERSONAL SUCCESS!!

Sure, we face some similar challenges and struggles, but we're all different, have different responsibilities, time, situations, etc. Let's use this thread to update on how PHASE 1 went, what can use improvement, and how PHASE 2 is going so far!!

If you are just starting Phase 1, or still a few weeks to Phase 2, please feel free to post about your thoughts so far in the program.
