MONDAY's RAE: March 24

Abdominal Hold: You'll need a sturdy chair or a step with 4 risers for this exercise. Sit tall on the edge of the chair and place your hands on the edge with your fingers pointing toward your knees. Tighten your abs and bring your toes 2 to 4 inches off the floor and lift your butt off the chair. Hold this position for as long as you can. Aim for 5 to 10 seconds. Ok... Lets pick it up... Random Acts of Exercise...

WEEKEND CHALLENGE-
Circuit do each exercise for 1 minute run through it 3-6 times how ever much you can handle.

You can use your body weight or resistance bands or dumb bells... your choice.

push-ups

russian twists

squats

shoulder raises

elbow to hands plank (For this plank I start out on my elbows, come up to my hands, separate my feet, then go back down to my elbows and bring my feet in)

diamond push-ups (on my knees)

tricep curls

Good Friday Morning BC GIRLS!

It's Friday SEPT 21 and Im so glad! It had been a long week over here.

Friday's Random Act of Exercise is a PLANK!

Check out Scott here as he shows you how, but please don't be intimidated by him, I chose him cause he shows you how to do it properly and well, I like to look at him. LOL

The plank is an exercise that works the body's core, specifically the abdominal muscles and lower back. The exercise is traditionally performed as part of yoga and Pilates regimens but is effective for anyone looking to improve core strength and balance. Performing a plank requires no equipment; body weight and gravity provide sufficient resistance.

So Get into plank position and hold it for as long as you can. Don't worry that it isnt long, because it is HARD! But anything worth doing is right?

So.... give it a try.... hold the plank position for as long as you can, rest and then do it again... do as many times as you can manage.... 4 or 5 reps?

THURSDAY's RAE Sept 20

FULL CIRCLE PUSH UP

Start in a push-up position on knees or toes with hands set wide. In one fluid, circular motion, shift weight to right arm (as shown), lower yourself toward floor, then shift weight across body to left arm and push yourself back up to start. Do four reps, then switch directions, lowering on left side first, for four more reps.

MONDAY RAE!

Lumbar Roll
1. Lie on your back with your legs in thighs perpendicular to the floor and your knees bent.
2. Keeping your shoulders on the ground slowly rotate your legs to the right until they touch the floor.
3. In a controlling manner bring your legs back up to the starting position.
4. Repeat with the other side.

EASY FRIDAY RAE :

Calf Raises
25 reps EACH LEG!

Stand tall with feet wider than the hips and toes turned outward. Hold onto the wall for support. Raise your heels up away from the floor and slowly lower them back down.

Exhale as you lift your heels and inhale as you lower down.

Okay, here's my random act of exercise ... its' Thursday

50 total each leg each side - Leg adductions and abductions.

I do them on the floor but if you have a weight machine that works too.
On the floor, make sure you are lifting with your outer thigh and not your quads by rolling forward slightly and lifting with your heel leading. Same on the inner thigh, except you have to roll backward a little to let your lower leg raise - still focus on heel leading. emoticon

I have a teacher who says that you can take a different yoga class every day for a year and never get the same experience, because it depends on the style the teacher has been trained in, who they trained with, and then every teacher will still add their own "flavour".
It can be slow and gentle or dynamic and aerobic. The certification I am working on at the moment is for Power yoga, so I tend to move more towards the latter...

Glad you guys liked it. My confession is that Sun Salutations are my warmup in my own personal practice, so I do a few rounds every day. So added a few more in was easy.

I love Sun Salutations! I have a Jillian Michaels video of Yoga Meltdown and she does them in that where perhaps they are more dynamic than other yoga? Not sure as I am not familiar with too much yoga besides the really stretchy yoga and Jillian's which I love. Anyways, did them a la Jillian's way and it feels great! Woo hoo!!!

Alternate which leg steps back first, do 4 rounds


I don't know how familiar you guys are with yoga, but there are sooooo many variations on Sun Salutations. The basics of this series is standing tall, stretching up and back, forward bend, step back into a lunge, step other leg back, plank, pushup, backbend, up into an inverted 'V" (hands and feet on floor, bum up in the air), step into lunge, step other leg up, forward bend, stretch up and back, come back into standing.

Go slowly, breathe deeply, modify as needed, bend knees if necessary and only go as far into each pose as you can do. Feeling a nice stretch is good, pain is NOT.

The seated knee lifts are hard, but I like them. Core work I can do without equipment or getting down on the floor. Yay!

Ok I did both the lateral lunges and the seated knee lifts WHICH WERE HARD by the way! Plus I did an hour of power yoga!
