I've been feeling pretty good, but I am used to strength training 4 or 5 days per week as I've been weight lifting pretty steadily for several years. Are you tracking your calories? You need quite a few calories to build those muscles and the fact that you are doing cardio...that right there tells me you definitely need to up your food intake. Listen to your body...I would try adding in another meal (another 200 or 300 calories) a day for a few days and see how THAT makes you feel.

Hope that helps.

Whitney, I think Fit Mama is right about the cardio-calorie ratio. You are probably not eating enough calories to sustain the strength you need. I am sore, but I do weight training regularly. I need to add the cardio and have a couple of events coming up, so I will be adding some. Hang in there, it has to get better as our bodies adjust to the new load.

Whit, if you're sore from the ST, maybe it would be best for you to skip one of your workout so your body is well rested before your race.

I know that I will probably skip 1 or 2 workouts before my dance exam in October as I don't want my Ballroom posture and frame to be ruined by sore muscles.

MAYBE it's the cardio... but to be quite honest, I haven't been doing much. About 2 runs per week since I started the plan, and they haven't been super long aside from ONE long 12 miler. This week I did a short 2 mile run Monday, and am contemplating whether or not to do another one before my half marathon on Sunday.... then I will be DONE with the "added cardio." Definitely not doing more than the plan after that! Yeesh!

I'm not sure what to do for my workouts this week-- definitely not doing the second day of legs (I'm in week 3 of phase 1), but should I also skip one of the others to ensure I have 2 rest days before my race? I did the legs workout yesterday, back/biceps today, and was planning on chest/tris tomorrow, with another short run if my legs are functioning... (they hurt incredibly bad today...).

What do you think? I don't want to get injured trying to do both to the max!!

I've been doing just ST with no cardio per plan & have felt like I have had much more energy, not less. My muscles are sore & my body is definitely tired, but as long as I go to bed at a normal time & get plenty of sleep I am having no over-tired troubles. Maybe it's the additional cardio?

Absolutely exhausted too, but some of it is self inflicted as I'm a night owl and go to bed late but get up early to work out - I rarely sleep more than 5 hours/night.
I realise it is really bad and it is a goal for September - get more sleep!!

Now that you mention it, I've been noticing I am sooo tired at like 10 and on days I don't have class til 11 I sleep til like 8. Which is like 10 hours of sleep, and the recommendation is 7-9 hrs! lol I haven't notice no energy during the day at all though...but I think Whit it's because you've still been doing cardio correct? So I can only imagine how much energy you've been using up. Hopefully this stage won't last too long!

This program is approx 1300 calories. Jamie mentions not doing cardio during Phase I b/c she wants all the nutrients to be used for building muscle. So with that being said, it is pretty low calorie. IMO (as a personal trainer) If you do any kind of cardio, you should really be adding additional calories to make up for it. Just my thoughts.

I actually had MORE energy on this plan up until a few days ago when I got a really bad head cold. Now I am just trying to get my workouts in when I can. I have only done legs this week and need a rest to start feeling better. I would think it is probably the cardio on top of the strength training. Also, if you were used to eating more carbs than that could also be an issue and it may take your body a while to get used to not having as many.

I've been exhausted, too. I only take one rest day, so I'm guessing that's why. Maybe our bodies are just adjusting to building muscle all the time emoticon

Yes I have been exhausted as well. I do my workouts at night and I feel great after but I do find the next day I'm exhausted and ready for a nap. I've actually fallen asleep on the couch before dinner a couple of times and that is very out of the ordinary for me. I think maybe our bodies are just trying to adjust to the amount of strength training we are doing and maybe the change up in our daily diet. I just hope the exhaustion goes away or it's going to be a long couple of months lol.

I have been super super tired since I started these workouts.

I feel energized mostly with my food when I get up to workout in the morning.... but my body is soooo worn out and tired by the end of every day, and I get enough sleep, too!!

Each night I am in bed by 9:30 or 10 at the latest. I get up most mornings at 4:45 a.m.

Has anyone else found themselves EXHAUSTED with all this strength training? I'm wondering if it's just my body not used to all the work, or if maybe it has to do with only taking 1 rest day per week (I've been fitting in a few runs per week on my "rest days" in the program so far, as I have my half marathon coming up THIS Sunday, then I'll be following program exactly)....
