Actually, I've changed my mind again ... maybe I don't know how to really do this, but Capital One's teaser rate expires to something in the 17% APR range ... I can do a little better !

Still, I am reactivating the card, anyway ..

I found out, by chancing to phone customer service over at Capital One, that they had inactivated me due to my being a bad customer (not charging with them) ... but in my recent disorganization (failing to surf interest rates), I decided I will start up with them again on a small balance transfer ... I do have those rewards points (not enough for travel, but then I have this debt thing so relatively nailed I don't ...)

as near as i can tell them allowed them to raise the interest rates we all pay . they said it was supposed to make it better for all of us . but i do not see how allowing them to raise the rates is helping us . i have a problem with fashion bug . they where taken over by world bank . they changed the way i am to pay . more interest and they said if i wanted a paper bill it would be one dollar a sheet . they no longer wanted anyone to pay by sending checks . they wanted their bill paid on line or direct take out of your account . i did not owe them any money so i just did not go into the store anymore . if i do not see it i will not buy it and thus i will not owe them any money .

Oh me too, I hate them! I've had a card with them for years - actually, it's my oldest card that I opened in '92. You'd think that would matter to them, but it doesn't make a difference. I was enjoying a low interest rate and not using the card but very slowly paying it off. They sent a letter saying they were going to raise my rate and when I called to complain, they said they couldn't do anything about the rate so asked if they could do anything else. I said, well, can you get rid of the annual fee? No, we're sorry, we can't do that either. So I ended up closing the account to keep my low rate. I still owe on it and pay them faithfully, but once it is paid off-- never never ever again will I use them.

For me, they've been worse than other companies. Back when I was making only the minimum payments, it didn't matter that I hadn't used the card for over a year. Because of the annual fee, which they use some cockamamie forumla to determine when to chaege, I'd keep exceeding my limit! Then, there was the over limit charge, etc. I finally took the bull by the horns and started paying as much as I could afford and now have one of the cards paid off and have a small balance remaining on the other. I will be so glad to be done with them!!

Oh I hate Capitol One a whole lot right now. They recently sent me a letter saying they are going to start charging me $5/mth ($60/yr) for having an account with them. Bogus. I'm really mad that I got my car loan through them too so basically I'm just waiting for them to try and screw me over again. I almost want to get rid of all the cards. I don't even use them anymore.

In the short run, your FICO score would drop, that you got rid of (rather than revolve more debt on) the card, but in the long run fewer cards make you appear more credit-worthy (assuming mild activity on each one just enough to keep them active). I work with such things at my job.

I got a mileage check from work on Friday and just paid one of my Capital One cards off with it! I do have a question. Capital One charges an annual fee, so I'd like to get rid of it. However, I've read that's not good for your credit. How do I decide which move will be better in the long run for me?

I have two with them - one paid off and the other is almost paid off. I have hated them since the beginning. They slip those annual b.s. fees in there and then I have to call and fight to get them removed. I should have the last one paid off in a couple of months and then they are out of here! Good luck with yours.

That is the only card that I have active and I find them no different than any other credit card company. They all charge way too high interest, have hidden fees and lie. Up here in Canada there is legislation that has just gone through to end these practices, so we'll see what happens once it's all in place.

I don't have a card from them, but I had issues with a Wells Fargo credit card. It was something else and it was sold to Wells Fargo. They got nasty with me and cancelled my card when I tried to make a partial payment. Now I cringed last weekend when I bought mattresses and had to finance them....it was through Wells Fargo. I just have to make sure I don't miss a pymt the next 12 months.

You know, as far as credit cards go ... (I do Banking with them, they are not bad for that) ... they kept sending me notices about my having thousands and thousands of No Hassle Miles with them, but they would not reactivate my card because I became inactive due to not having a balance ...

[I live close to the bone, and more or less, I use only a few of a dozen-ish cards I have had .. and not Capital One .. in debt for somewhat smaller amount than had been usual]

IIRC, those thousands of miles are surely No Hassle ... not enough miles to redeem for anything ... lol !

Fortunately, I am very close to having them paid off, after which, never, and I do mean never ever, will I consider using them again. We actually had a consolidation loan with them years ago which we paid off in 3 years with no problem. I made the mistake of getting a credit card with them. They are so sneaky with extra charges for this, that and the other. I didn't activate the last renewal they sent me, so they called and asked me if I wanted to do that. I said no, I was just concentrating on paying it off. Then they gave me this big song and dance, oh no, you don't want to close your account, what if you have an emergency, etc. At this point, if I have an emergency, I think I'd rather sell my body to pay for it! (Too bad no one would want to buy it!:)
