I would love to do a 10k, but THE TIME! It would take forever! I just don't have that type of time to devote to running. I do want to keep running the 5k. I'm on week 7. I'll do my first session Wednesday. Running a whole mile without stopping is very trying for me, but I'm getting there. I'm cheating a little. After half a mile or so I'll slow to a walk for about 1minute and then I'm back to jogging. I don't count that minutes as part of the mile, so I do still jog a full mile. It was so much easier on the treadmill when the "road" just kept coming. Also being outside is harder on my lungs. Sometimes I just need a minute to let them rest. I'm pretty pumped about this week. 2.5miles here I come!

I'm so excited for you! Getting to that 5k mark is awesome!

Well done, I so know what you mean. Pavement running is completely and utterly different to the treadmill! I know YES i have nearly completed the 9 weeks and I am now feeling what you felt it is a fantastic accomplishment. I have been using a couch to 5km application on my android phone and on the completion of tonights run it asked if I would like to further my running by doing a bridge to 10kms? wow where does it stop! I will not be doing 10km simply its too hard to fit that luxury of time in let alone put my body through that invasive training! I shall report back at the end of week 9 whoop whoop!!!!

Finally finished week5 or as close to finishing it as I'm going to get. It's very difficult for me to jog the entire 2miles. I did bursts of 5-7minutes of jogging linked with 1-2minutes of walking. I feel like there's nothing wrong with that and I still accomplished the distance I was after. At the beginning of this week I was struggling to just get 5minutes so this is an improvement and that's the whole point of this.

I bet you're nearly finished Marlena!

Thanks so much Fallen-Angel!

I wrapped up week3 today. It'd been several days, but I fell right into it. It actually came easier to me than it had the other 2 workouts. I decided with week 4 I'd switch to paying attention to the distance instead of the time. I blocked out my path for the week 4 and found landmarks so I'll know when to switch from jog to walk. Should be interesting.

I'm so glad you're finding this as rewarding as I am! Thanks for coming up with such an awesome challenge!

Hey there CHODGE83

Keep it up! you are an inspiration, and yes I am on week 6, last session approaching and it is getting tougher but very rewarding afterwards. I totally know where you are coming from! I walk 5 kms most mornings as well as doing the challenge and the other morning I thought of you and thought okay I will jog the last 1km of my walk..............well well well the pavement is most definately different to a treadmill, way more resistance, uncertain levels and the pressure of being in public. I take my hat off to you as the two definately so far apart and for you to be at week 3 is fantastic, KEEP IT UP!!!

Week3 is kicking my behind! I don't know if I'm just not pacing myself very well, or if it's the air, or the terrian. Maybe a combination of all these things, but the 3min jog is difficult for me. I'm doing it, but it's difficult. I can't imagine what week4 will bring!

Week 5 is when it gets real! It's like no walking! Must run!

I am so impressed by your pace! I run about a 12minute mile. In high school I ran a 9minute mile so I figure 3 extra minutes in 10 years (and 35pounds heavier) is pretty good. I'm starting an outdoor run tomorrow, we'll see how this goes.

I lost a pound and 3.5 inches.

Fantastic work, yay you did it I soon hope to say the same thing. I am at week 5 and have felt the past weeks sessions. I know that every treadmill is different but I have mine set at incline of 3, I walk at a pace of 6.8 and Jog/run at 8.2 which is getting hard to maintain as the weeks pass. I feel I will need to drop the speed down or I will chuck the workout as it is getting more challenging. Okay shall post back after Easter with week 5's experiences.

Again great job

Took a little longer than 9 weeks, but I FINISHED! 3.25miles in 39minutes, that's walking 0.25 and jogging the 3 on a treadmill.

emoticonemoticonemoticonemoticonemoticonemoticonemoticonemoticonemoticon

Now than it's time to take this to the outdoors! I'm starting over with week1, since I'm not used to jogging on the road or an incline or without a fan. Should be interesting!

Everytime I do a workout I feel like I can accomplish anything! All the things that make me nervous about running have kinda fallen to the wayside. I'm not here to impress anyone. No one cares how fast/slow my pace is and no one will laugh at me if a need a breather. I'm doing this for myself and even if it's at a 5mph pace without an incline and takes me 40 minutes - I FREAKING DID IT!!!! I'm going to start week9 this weekend. What's really sad is I love it, but at the same time it's time consuming and I kinda can't wait to wrap it up and just do shorter daily runs. Daily runs! HA! I never thought I'd be saying those words!

Are you running to a soundtrack? I literally cannot do it without music. My favorite song to jog to is Janelle Monae's Tightrope.

I'm two days in on Week8! The first day I finished up 5k in 39.30minutes and the second day I came in at 38.10minutes. I need a break today. I'll probably try to wrap week8 by Wednesday and get started on Week 9 Saturday. Wohoo!

Completed week7! I can't wait to start week8. It's really true what they say about running being addictive. If I have time, I'll probably hit up the gym this evening and get my jog on!

Hope you're finding it as enjoyable as I am!

I'm not using an incline. I asked around to my friends and some of the physicians that I work with; they suggested since I'm very new to running that I stay flat. I'm hoping to get thru the program this month and then I thought I'd start over using different inclines. Also I'm hoping the weather starts getting nice (I'm in Illinois,US) and I can take this outside. I'm so glad you started the challenge! It's a real rush!

Alright I finished week5! I did the 3rd workout on the ellipitical first to get the feel for it and yesterday I ran it on the treadmill. It was amazing! Later last night I realized that is the first time I have EVER ran two miles just for the sake of running. I have a friend that runs and she gave me a bunch of tips on silent running, etc that really helped keep my joints from aching. I honestly can't wait to go again. CRAZY!

Week4 is complete! I go into each week thinking I can't possibly do this and it's going to be too hard. Here I am at the end of the week and I've completed the 3 days and each time I shaved time off my mile. Week5 here I come!

Great work CHODGE83, thats fantastic. Due to holidays over in New Zealand, I have been travelling around the central part of our island and have not been able to start this challenge. I am however VERY much wanting to so I will be a few weeks behind you. You have given me drive to complete this CHODGE83 thank you and good luck with this week!

Started Week3 today. Woulda been easier if the guy next to me wouldn't've minded me turning on the fan. Got a little too hot for my head, but I made it through to the end.

Sinus Infection/Strep Throat is keeping me from moving on. I think I'll try to repeat week2 for a couple more days. I'm using an elliptical trainer which seems to let me breathe a little easier. When I'm over this, I'll move back to the treadmill and onto Week3. Can't wait...emoticon

I've done two days! My back, neck, and shoulders were killing me after day1, but I perservered and went back for more. I'm glad I did. It was a little confindence booster, like "Yes, I can do this." Today no pain, guess I just needed a comfortable night's sleep. Of course, it probably didn't help that I was making up for a missed workout Saturday and Sunday was a much lighter workout. Anywho, I plan on getting the 3rd workout in Wednesday.

Can't wait to see everyone's progress!

Hi there, awesome to hear from you!

As i write this it's pouring down outside and almost 4pm Sunday, and if anyone told me i had to get up n ready to walk, run etc, i think i'd cry lol..

This is going to test me something wicked, and i'd love to say 'yeah piece of cake' but i too am nervous, as i usually start out with a hiss & a roar.....then not so much after that..

So... This is WHY i have publicly challenged myself to this, it will not only be in here but on my facebook too....Eeeeek!!!!.....so there will be NO turning back...

Good luck my Pin-Up's, both Fallen-Angel_ and i are doing this right by your side,
So LET'S DO THIS TEAM!!!!...

I'm excited and nervous about this! I'm doing the official jumpstart January challenge so this will fit right in. I haven't jogged in a long time. During the summer/fall I was walking, but with the time/weather changes I haven't been outside at all. I don't have a treadmill at home and running outdoors in the winter isn't an option where I live. I do get a gym discount from my employer so I'm getting my membership renewed and lacing up on Monday!
