I agree. With the exception of a few yoga stretches, both appear to work the core and tone the body in general.

in answer to the question "would you consider a yoga/pilates session to be ST?" ... it depends.

The ones I've seen offered at our Y seem to attract the elite...and would definitely be ST. I tried out a few of them and I was definitely not in the contender's league. Not that they weren't welcoming to all participants...but the classes were strenuous, and demanding of stamina and flexibility.

...bottom line...yes....I do think the yogilates classes have a definite ST component to them.

My goal is to get 3 full body workouts in per week and not have them occur on consecutive days. Ideally it would be MWF or MWSat, but lately it's been Tues, Fri, Sun. I'm a creature of habit, so it is challenging for me to have to work 3 in every week. I used to have it figured out for me with the st class at the Y on MWF at 4:30 p.m., but then they arranged the schedule (without consulting me....lol) to where my very favorite cardio class, spinning, and my very favorite teachers also happened at that time. I can pretty much duplicate the ST here at home, but not the spin....so I've had to try to fit the bodyshape in where I can. I do try to hit a Y Strength class at least once a week just to keep me motivated. What I notice is that at home I lift heavier weights and fully work out all the parts. At the Y, I might be lifting lighter weights and not giving each body area the full focus....but it is condensed into one hour of time and no breaks and sometimes doing things I would not do at home -- like those wall squats with the ball that our teacher seems to love to drag out that I consider pure torture.

I think we're doing pretty good! My scheduled days are Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Sometimes Friday's session gets pushed back to Saturday, though.

Definitely NOT an everyday task! I have to do it again after we have the tile grouted, but then it will only need to be done once a year or less.
