I did get one drawer of a file cabinet cleaned out; maybe I will soon find that book that I am looking for......*grin* okay, that calls for more file drawers to be cleaned out......several,in fact.....this will take time as I tend to get distracted when clearing them out and deciding what to pitch and what to keep.

I'm getting there, I didn't meet my goal of done by the weekend but definitely progressed in this area while maintaining the others. And that's progress too! I didn't stick to nutrition so great yesterday but can tighten it up today no problem :) I'll be back in an hour with a report: LOL

Working in small time increments does work. It is like 10 minutes fitness. First, that is all you can do. Then, once you get into it, you finish.

I'm setting my timer for 30 min. Gonna do a trashbag, a stair vac, and pull old records box out to sort on table for the next 30 min block. BBL

Well I worked an hour. Kicked some paper work and kitchen @z! I'm taking a 10 min water break then diving in to paring down 52 items for giveaways. I want to reclaim my dining room table by the end of the weekend, then I'll get a snazzy new hairstyle as a reward emoticon

It went really well, the goal was to have all my papers in 2 boxes emoticon

All that's left is a small box of filing, and a small box of current projects, but both will work in just fine. I'm Happy emoticon

That is so true, I get stuck, but once I get started again I wonder why, it's really not that difficult or scary. I should do 10 minutes too!

I am focusing on this...finally. I am using the same 10 minute approach that helped me conquer my kitchen. It is all about getting started and then seeing how very easy it is to complete the task.

I have been procrastinating again, but I have two days left AND two days off!!! This is great, it's enough to motivate me, it is very doable I am just slow with paperwork: I freeze up and find it hard to make decisions, silly but true, but I can learn how to work faster emoticon

Joanofspark, I went to Sp_Arkansas last summer, we went to Hot Springs, it was lovely!!

Well done Joanofspark (love the name )

Ok, no excuses, but just need to look at the facts, I've had a bad cold and we had some serious distractions this month, so I'm behind on my declutter goal, but it is still do-able! It is about a week till February and I am armed with a timer and a trash can!

Mine seems to accumulate on my fridge. I took it all down, trashed or found a real home for it - and actually wiped off the front of the refrigerator. it's amazing. ;oP

Setting a timer for 20 minutes, taking care of a folder of things I always meant to read SOMEDAY. emoticon
I now have a very small stack. I'm going to leave it out emoticon but I am counting it as decluttering. I'll not move on until it's gone.

How does Evernote help? Also, what program to make the flashcards? My daughter is in college and loves to use flashcards.

This has always been one of my bigger issues. I am actually in the process right now of going completely paperless. I have evernote and a few other accounts that are helping me file all my paperwork and hopefully make it that I don't have to deal with paper any more. I have even found a program that helps me take notes for school on my computer and turns them into flashcards which is nice since I have about 3 shoeboxes full of flashcards I have made.

Yep, I know the feeling. I am experimenting with paperless statements. So far, I limited it to utilities. That helps, some.

It's like doing the dishes, wiping the counters and then someone brings down a dish from upstairs. Or, as soon as your done, put the last dish in the cupboard, its time to make lunch!

I have a new system I'm using (well, trying to get started with) where I use a small leather folder/case as a tickler file. That is my place for current, need to be dealt with paper. So it is NOT a pile but everything has a place.

Arrrrr - my stack in the kitchen NEVER seems to go away! I sort this at least once a week or every week and a half - I have a bag for bills and receipts and anything that has my name on it that got to the community shredder every summer - the trash bag - a pile for old magazines that can be donated to the library and the take care of it now stack. Never never never have I ever been able to get it down to NOTHING - always something left - this is (and always will be) an ongoing chore for me

Yep, we all have too much of it. Paper, paper and more paper. So let's tackle it together. This can be a one day, one week or one month project. Depends on your paper situation.

First - Identify, Sort and Destroy:

1. Place a trash can and/or shredder where that paper accumulates.
2. Shred or toss obvious junk mail, expired ads or coupons and the like.
3. Sort the remaining paper into 3 stacks:
a. Important - action required now (i.e. bills, appointment reminders).
b. Important - no action required now (filing or follow up)
c. Miscellaneous - requires more careful review (Is that really the winning Sweepstakes ticket?!)

Second: Follow Through

1. Review and act on the important and miscellaneous. (File?, Make A Phone Call?, etc.)

If your stack is really large - I suggest that you break down this step into manageable time increments (e.g. 15 minutes daily), task involved (filing) or by stack. (In my case, bag. )

That's it for now. Later we will tackle organizational tools to help you keep paper clutter under control.
