Mostly working on a project. I got some gold silk fabric from India and I am almost done with my tailored bed skirt for the master bedroom.

I am trying to clean up after using any of my sewing things.

When completing a recipe, if I put the ingredients away as I put them into the dish, clean up is so much easier.

10 minutes to clean off the chest in the mud room. Ach! Such accumulation there.

Pat -- putting things away right when they need to be is a lesson I wish I had learned way earlier in life!

10 minutes in the living room today putting away papers that were stacked on the glass top table near the desk.

Are we too busy to tidy? I've noticed that I am more likely now to put something away right away, and if I don't, this place can look messy too quickly.
Took 10 minutes for a bit of mending, and folding and putting away laundry.

Paula, I hope the home sells quickly. Many who have to relocate at this time of year want to get it during Christmas break, so the kids can start the new year in their new schools.

Didn't take long to vacuum the new carpet in the family room to get up those bits of pile that the installers always leave behind.

10 minutes easily of putting unused ornaments and other misc. Christmas decorations back in the storage tubs and taking back to the attic. Still some to do yet tomorrow morning before heading out for a weekend wrestling tournament. (Grandson hurt his wrist tonight at practice, hoping he doesn't really hurt it more this weekend.)

Quickly gathered up ornament tubs and put them in the bedroom, as my friend was coming to my house so I could drive us to a quaint town north of here. I was right. She came in to show me some things she'd brought me for the mission dresses. I'm still not completely decorated, but I'd better hurry. DH's birthday was today and he has invited two couples over for dinner tomorrow.

Zipped through the whole house before my walk, just in case my neighbor wanted to come see the new tile work (she also has tile work to have done and wanted to see if she wants to hire our tile setter). Since she had never seen the house (she is a new neighbor), she got the whole tour. Good I did the quick sweep.

Three loads of laundry, then a long time signing and addressing Christmas cards. I'm almost done. Had to get ONE international stamp. The machine didn't spit it out, and another customer and myself got to stand in line to get help. Glad most of mine can be handed out at church.
As soon as the last one is in the envelope, my 10 minutes will be putting the lists and leftover cards and pens away. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Changed sheets, washed towels and whites, emptied & refilled DW. Ran to store for some ground round for burgers for lunch and stopped at the in-store bank to get money for the contractor. This deck is becoming a major structure. The fact that it isn't square is half the problem.
Got out the Christmas cards to begin signing and addressing them. emoticon

Pat -- I didn't realize those wreaths were so expensive. emoticon
emoticon It's also time to pull the decorated Christmas tree from her other attic. It's wrapped in a sheet, and pretty much ready to set up. DH will have a fit (haven't told him yet I plan to have it here at our house.) I've not decorated with a tree for years since we were always going somewhere else. I'm going to do it just because I want to do it. Now to figure out where it will go. We have room in the den, but sure not about the dogs leaving it be. Might be good here in the computer room as it will show out of the windows when we're pulling up to the house.

That was nice what you did for your mom!

10 minutes in the kitchen today putting cooking things away -- those big corningware bakers that stay behind some of the others I use more often for instance.

Paula, be glad you forgot -- those big wreaths can be very pricey. I tend to buy things once they go on 75-90% off. There is a second large one that hangs on the peak of the front of the house.

As we feasted yesterday, I had today free and drove to my mom's to style her hair. She was visiting her old neighbor. Once she left, I grabbed a tall ladder and cleaned the high plate rails on either end of her living room, washed the plates on the one and dusted the bronzes on the other.

Oh Pat! emoticon Your post just reminded me that there is a giant wreath in my Mom's second attic that is hanging on the rafters. DH and I were so exhausted after getting all the rest of the Christmas stuff out that day that we said we'd do it "later." Now is the perfect time to pull it out. It might look good on our gate if nothing else. Sorry we didn't get it out for the estate sale.

I used the battery operated leaf blower outside today (actually lasts about 10 minutes or so) to blow away the plump juniper berries that were lining the driveway. Dogs were with me, eating them up. Only trouble is when you walk on them, then track them in the house, it gets messy. Still had some power left, so ended with blowing leaves off the back porch.

Son #2 asked me to puppy sit both Tuesday night and today. I was already in his area for a 75% off warehouse sale of Katherine's Collection's decorations early this morning. I was at his house by 9:00 and left more than three hours later. I stayed in the kitchen. I was only supposed to make sure the new plates were put through the dishwasher. First it needed unloading. When I thought about putting away the silverware, I saw the drawer needed a good cleaning. So did the sinks, counter tops, microwave and stove top. I know the refrigerator/freezer could use it, too; but DH called me to come home, as the electrician hadn't shown up and he needed to help BIL with his tiling project. I'm definitely listing that three hours of heavy housecleaning on my fitness tracker today!

In the den...in between trips away from home... I swept all the dog hair up and dusted, and even touched up a couple spots on the wall with paint I have stored in a small container in the TV stand. It's amazing the hair that collects on the floor from our two girls. Wouldn't want to do without them, but it's an everyday thing with all the shedding.

Getting the trash emptied. DH was nice enough to bring the cans into the garage before he left this evening. I have everything ready so when he comes home, he can wheel them to the curb.

Pat -- What a nice thing to do for your step-dad's son! I know how these kinds of chores can turn into a mess really quickly. emoticon You'll feel good when it's all sorted and sent to Chicago.

10 minutes today several times telling myself "put one foot in front of the other" "what can I do now that I don't have to think about or make a huge decision on?" Laundry! Did two loads from sorting to folding.

Main thing that's monopolizing my time now is trying to get my Mom's house listed, and find an appraiser. Shouldn't be so difficult, but apparently it is. The good ones are booked up until a month away, or are charging twice what I expected for 15 days out. Meanwhile, my brother sits on the sidelines offering no help except to tell me what to do. I'm the one making all the calls, he's the one telling me they're seeing a "sucker". Since he's still living on the property, he has no real desire to get it on the market anytime soon. OK -- enough rambling...I keep telling myself "this too shall pass." It's got to get better.

The bedroom! Ach! Last night I thought I might put the mementos from my stepfather into a box and ship them off to his son in Chicago. It turned into a sort, but I had to quit because it was after midnight. What a mess I made.

Pat, oh my! It's always something unexpected, isn't it? Who would have thought to consider if the water produced by the softening system would be compatible with the water heater? Glad you have a company you can trust, and that you've come up with a plan!

Today was taking care of business...I guess you could say my 10 minutes was tidying up the paperwork from the estate sale and getting the check deposited in my Mom's bank account.

We're sorry, too--to the tune of $956.69. Apparently the water heater reacts adversely to the salt in the softener system. The heater was less than 2-1/2 years old (warrantied, thank goodness) but the salt caused the bottom to fall out and the seam to split. Wow! Instead of keeping the softener and having this happen again, I opted to put in a whole-house filtration system. The filter will need to be changed every 8-10 months at the cost of ~$25. Much cheaper than buying salt and having plumbers charge their fees. We have so much work done by this company, that they give us a discount! Ha ha, kind of like frequent flyer miles. We also have what they consider to be a large pipe coming from the city water source, and needed a pressure reducing valve and an expansion tank to save on the wear and tear on the appliances. We trust these guys and they always come quickly and explain everything fully. It just happens to have been the same week we are having the wood in the rec room and downstairs bath stained and sealed. This is why people have rainy day savings.

Maybe this can't be considered tidying, but DH and I spent at least 10 minutes sopping up all the water that had overrun the utility room, hall and third bedroom because the water heater (new as of 4/15) overflowed. Guess I won't be doing any laundry this morning! And I need--NEED--a shower! emoticon

emoticon Ladies -- my house is so out of control that I'm just trying to hang in and do quick touch-ups wherever I can. I DID do some catch-up in the dining room where I've stacked boxes of glassware and pottery from the estate sale that I just couldn't bear to donate. I've added some little odds and ends (in 10 minute spurts) to the "jelly cabinet" and china cabinet that look really good.

Yes, Christine, what is it about the pantry? It can be nice and neat, and you have only to move things aside to get to that jar of pickles in the back and the whole thing looks awful again. *sigh*

Since I mainly sewed yesterday, there was minimal mess anywhere but in the sewing room. And since I'm still making those dresses, I'm not cleaning up for a while.

Christine,
I'm sure that when you typed, there were apostrophes in your possessives and contractions; but they came out as ’. I've had that happen, too, so I googled that string of characters and found this tutorial:

It didn't help me ONE BIT! emoticon emoticon emoticon I'm helplessly backward on the computer. Even had son on the phone last night, explaining how to change things in the Excel document I was working on for his father.

That is the perfect thing to do Paula. I am still going through stuff here too

I do know I will not throw away my grandmother’s dresser set, that I would never use, I just think it should be saved there’s a hand mirror, a comb that looks like a brush, and then a brush. Probably from the 1920s I guess.

I think it is best to go through that with no pressure, at least that is what worked for me.

Thanks Pat! We have a local charity thrift shop that will come pick up everything, too. The estate sale crew is in charge of that, I just want to get anything out we want first.

10 minutes tidying up my craft closet trying to make room for some of the stuff I'm bringing home. I'm going to really have a job ahead of me getting all this stuff organized. I may end up donating some of it in the long run, but don't want to be pressured at this point to make decisions on some of it.

Paula,
If there are items you don't want to throw away, but cannot sell, try posting them on your local FreeCycle.org site. One man's trash is another's treasure, and what is still usable but unwanted will normally be snatched up in a moment. If you've never used this site before, I would caution you to hold off until a few people have replied before you respond to anyone about giving the item(s) away.

I'll be working on the paper pile for the 10-minute tidy.

Trying to get a little done before heading over to Mother's. What's left over after the estate sale now needs to be dealt with. The estate sale crew will do it, but they'll just donate it all or trash it, and there are items we don't want to do that with.

A friend's daughter is getting married Saturday. The dress arrived from China, and there isn't time to send it back for alterations.

Worked outside a good bit, weeding, watering, sweeping. Also cleaned up the kitchen and did a major work on the bed--vacuumed the mattress, washed the mattress pad, turned the mattress before changing the sheets. Started the dusting. Yep, that 10 minutes was extended.

Christine,
It seems like tidying is easier on vacation, because the area you need to clean is smaller, whether it's a cabin, trailer or hotel room.

Hope you find some bargains at the estate sale, Paula.

Working on altering a mother-of-the-bride dress today, so I'll need to put away lots of sewing stuff after that. emoticon

Pat -- the estate sale has been crazy! First day was SRO, today was a little more laid back. Actually....DH found a book in my mom's office he never saw before...a comprehensive guide to dog breeds. So he was happy leafing through that while he had to wait around for me today.
