First thing I was given was Placquinel-couldn't take it as it did affect my vision-please know
there are other drugs out there. Good luck!

I was on placquinel for several years long ago. The RA went into remission and I went off all meds for several years. When I flared again, I went on a series of medications, all of which helped for a while, then not so much, so I moved on. Now I am on Enbrel, with a little daily prednisone, and the RA seems under control, I struggle with past damage but no present flares.
I don't think I need any other meds at this time, just a few vitamins and supplements. Go ahead and ask your doc about taking you off the placquinel on a trial basis. Have regular blood work checked to see how you do, as well as monitoring your own pain. You can always restart the placquinel, or start something else, if that seems indicated. My doc wanted me on Methotrexate with the Enbrel, but that has eye side effects plus others, too, so I said "Let's try without it and see how it goes." That was at least 3 years ago now, so far so good.

I have been taking Plaquenil from the beginning, 7 years in May. After 5 years you can develope side effects to eyes, I'm being closely monitored for the past two years, I would like to go off the Plaquenil, now that I'm on Enbrel, so I don't have to worry about my eyes. Is there anyone out there that has gone on to other meds, after leaving Plaquenil, and have you noticed any difference being off it? I know the Drs. like to add other meds, and not take you off of old ones, if you aren't having problems, but I feel I have reached a crossroad with this med. Thanks.
