Thank you for the resources! I have visited the link and read a number of the resources.

I am approaching an intermediate goal that may be close to a maintainable goal for me. I decided that it was time to start thinking about the transition to maintenance. Don't want to put the cart before the horse, but wanted to think and plan ahead.

Thanks again. I expect to be popping in from time to time and will be more active here as I establish a goal weight and work to maintain it.

I've really appreciated the series of emails about all of the resources available to the AGAM:TM team. Thanks for compiling them, thanks for publicizing them. There is nothing else out there (to my knowledge) which is nearly as helpful for people who want to maintain weight loss.

Was just checking out the "loose skin" stuff: excellent info, and tells it like it is for sure.

The only way I know how to change body shape is by weight lifting. Real, heavy weights, low reps, not something like body pump.

From what I know it's not possible to spot reduce. And fat does tend to come back in certain places on certain people. So if you tend toward a pear shape, that's where it will go.

I can try to find some more links about body recomposition and lifting and expand the section where it's currently mentioned, "Keep on maintaining."

Only tangentially related, but I've heard that when people get liposuction, or the "skin" removed before they've got most of the fat out underneath, fat comes back in new areas where it didn't collect before, such as the back. So if you get either kind of those surgeries it's super important not to regain weight...

Hope this helps!

I have a question and didn't see a link on our "Big Page", and maybe you can direct me to a resource. I'm coming up on my 2 year weight loss. I've had the yo, yo's throughout my life and I finally found a way to lose the 20+ lbs that was separating me from so much of my wardrobe during this menopausal time of my life, the Dukan 4 stage plan. In stage 3, I kept losing weight and lost about 7 to 8 lbs more than the "true weight" Dukan sets for you. So, in stage 4, and BEFORE I FOUND THIS TEAM (dang it), and over T-giving and Christmas holidays, I regained those 7 to 8 lbs, and now I'm hanging within 2-3 lbs of the "true weight". So this is my question. I seemed to have regained those few lbs in the hip and thigh area, my trouble spot, and this is the area that will separate me from so many wonderful pant suits. So, do our bodies fight to put weight back in our trouble spots? Am I going to have to pursue an "achievable weight loss" (instead of a "maintainable weight loss") for the rest of my life for my pants to fit comfortably? Or is there really a way to change body type? I've been exercising a minimum of 90 min a day five days a week since 1996. I recently added back running as my family has taken an interest, and I love running with them. Will running help? Is there a link or two on the subject that could be added to the Big Page?

I appreciate any help you can offer.
Thanks for all the great leadership on this team!

Here's the link to it again, in case anyone is looking:

And yeah, I agree that it's interesting people don't discuss controlling their depression more in the context of weight management. There's a general discomfort discussing fat and also discomfort discussing mental illness, so you almost never see people addressing the connection between them.

It's the reason one of our team goals is "Do at least 1 thing toward mental well-being 1 time per week"

Never, ever, EVER give up!

4A-HEALTHY-BMI, I'm so impressed with all you do to create an informative and supportive maintenance environment! I read back through the factors of success in the Big Page again:

Here are the best predictors of keeping weight off:

1. Longer duration of weight loss maintenance (more than 2 years)
2. Dietary consistency
3. Less fast food consumption
4. Less TV viewing
5. More frequent breakfast consumption
6. Lower levels of depressive symptoms and dis-inhibited eating

Key behaviors associated with weight maintenance are:

1. Activity levels of over 200 minutes per week (at least for women in the cited study)
2. High levels of dietary restraint, such as:
Deliberately taking small helpings
Avoiding certain foods
Counting calories
3. Having lower levels of depressive symptomology
4. Controlling overeating

I've got all of these covered, but the sneakiest ones are these (which are really exactly the same):

6. Lower levels of depressive symptoms and dis-inhibited eating
and
3. Having lower levels of depressive symptomology
4. Controlling overeating

I'm not in general depressive, but this underscores for me the importance of having a goal of keeping myself optimistic and upbeat in any way I can--even if it comes to pasting a smile on my face because the mere act of smiling has been shown to boost mood.

I’m excited to share with you a resource Tina and I have been working on--a single organized page with all of our Team resources, tools, and inspiration in one place:

tinyurl.com/maintenance-links

We’d love to have feedback on the page. Tell us on this thread what you like about it, what you don’t like, and what isn’t on there that you think needs to be.

We’re looking forward to your help so we can build an even stronger base of tools and resources to help everyone continue with a healthy, happy lifestyle.
