Here's how I think it got this way. Instead of viewing it as an X axis, the Spark folk set it up as if "goal" and all other good things were at the far right. Notice how a pure weight tracker has your goal at the far right? Same principle with this ticker--except that it violates math graphing principles.

Too funny! I never noticed, yet it is indeed backwards. I'm more focused on exercise minutes though, as I like to have a goal I'm aiming to achieve. Although my goal is to maintain my weight, my bigger picture goal is to improve my fitness level, therefore, the minutes help me more.

I had forgotten about this topic. I really prefer the body fat % ticker now, because to me this is much more relevant. As long as body fat % is where I want it weight does not matter anyhow.

Ok, all of your comments make sense and I understand. It makes me feel better. I guess because I'm a teacher and we teach positive and negative numbers, it was "throwing me off."
Thanks for the input!

I learned the other way also but this has never bothered me. Can't say why exactly but I like it better the way it is. I guess the other way makes more sense logically.

I'm a little OCD, myself, but this one has never bothered me. I guess that since we read from left to right, the weight-loss scale going from left to right made sense for me. So it follows that the higher weight would be to the left of goal weight, and the lower to the right.

For this reason, I think it'd bug me if it were the other way.

That is certainly how we learn it in math, but that's just for convenience (and consistency's) sake. They could turn all those graphs around for the next generation and they'd still learn the same math.

If you compare it to the losing pounds or weight tickers, moving to the right is usually seen as the direction we want to go (a good, or positive thing) and thus left is the direction we don't want to go (a potentially bad, or negative thing). So in the case of maintenance, gaining pounds is moving backwards in the negative direction - at least when it's not just normal fluctuations.

At least that seems to be the basic logic.

I agree that it is backwards but also think that it is not that helpful. It puts the focus on weight, which we all know is not a good gauge of health. I can maintain my weight by eating in moderation and not exercising but my body fat will go up a lot and my lean muscle mass go down a lot.
This is why I switched to the body fat % ticker.

To me the ticker that I am using that shows how much I am over or under my goal weight, is backwards. The negative numbers are on the right. To me and when I studied math, the negative numbers were on the left, like this -2 -1 0 1 2. Am I looking at this incorrectly or am I just being a little OCD? emoticon

This has been bugging me for a little while, so I thought I'd ask.
