Good for you for being so on top of things, Louise. It pays to take good care of yourself.

I had my third colonoscopy last Spring after a bout with diverticulitis. I had one or two polyps (had none the first two times) which were benign so I'm still on a five-year plan.

I have had a flex sig and two colonoscopies, the first two for general screening, both negative. After my dad died of colon cancer, my ten year window that you speak of dropped to five, and a good thing, I had two polyps, one benign, one precancerous. So I am on the three year plan and will be back next spring. You can read my story under "colon screening stories from other members 1 forum".
Have a great day!

Thank you Linda. I strongly urge everyone to overcome whatever objections that they might have to this test and have it done. If it is negative you dont' have to have it done for another 10 years. Have you had yours?

So very sorry about your niece. This is indeed a disease that we can prevent if we do our screenings, and/or manage if caught in time. Good for you for getting yours promptly, the peace of mind is so great!

I had my screening at age 50. The prep was uncomfortable, but not as uncomfortable as dying of colon cancer I would wager. The procedure itself was a breeze; painless, and I felt no discomfort (other than hunger) afterwards. I got my screening because my doctor said that it was time to do it.

After my screening, my niece in her 40s died of colon cancer. It only made me glad that I had gone and had my screening done.

I feel that, whatever people's concerns are about the procedure, these worries can't be worse than dying of colon cancer. My niece left behind a husband and two children and an army of friends. It didn't have to happen.
