Shirley-as far as your affirmations go...they must be ones that you really connect with. Maybe, "regardless of what I do for others, I am worthy"--if you tend to put everyone before yourself. Or "I have healthy habits" or "I am at my ideal weight"...there has to be feeling behind it though :)

I have not been so great about writting in my journal, but I will just make a few comments here: I have been maintaining my weight and I am still tracking everyday what i eat and drink, but i will say I have been feeling somewhat discouraged that I don't have the desire to eat as healthy as often as I used to. I think I have the mindset that I have reached my first goal when it comes to my weight, so I don't need to be as strict about it. I don't know for sure what i am thinking, but I hope I get myself back on track consistantly. I am working on it! emoticonemoticonemoticon

How has negative self-talk affected you up until this point? How do you think your journey would be different if you didn’t participate in negative self-talk? What would that mean for your weight loss? How do you think it would change how often you ate a hefty amount of calories because you felt like a “failure”? How would you feel about yourself if you made a conscious decision to eliminate the negative self-talk? What kinds of things do you catch yourself saying to yourself that you would be absolutely horrified to hear someone saying to your best friend? What are you going to do the next time you catch yourself participating in negative self-talk? How are you going to remind yourself to stop?

I don't think it's so much that I participate in negative self-talk (at least not consciously), but rather that I avoid positive self-talk. Instead of seeing myself in the mirror looking pretty one day, I ignore it and move on - or I find some flaw that is holding me back from being able to say "I am pretty today". Or "Oh, look at that! My waist is trimming down... oh, but wait, there's that tummy flap that is now flattening on the sides and looks terrible". I guess those are negative self-talk conversations, aren't they? Anyhow, I should embrace the flattening of my tummy flap b/c it means it's not filled with fat anymore.

When I catch myself, I'll remind myself that I should be my own best friend and those are things I would NEVER dream of saying to a best friend.

That's great Lauren! I have toyed with the idea of being vegan but I love my cheese. I am slowly cutting back and maybe by this summer I will be prepared to do a 30 day at least. I hope it goes well for you! I guarantee you will feel so much healthier inside and your mind will even feel a little clearer.
I will hopefully have journal 3 up by Tuesday. I am still working on all my planning that I need from my last journal.

Lorie! Love your plan! It seriously gave me ideas! I thought you would appreciate this...I'm going vegan for 30 days :) I love the idea of having a backup menu for those weeks that you can't plan. REALLY setting yourself up for success there. I started using Gabrielle Berstein's meditations...there are a bunch of free ones that you can download on iTunes (you just have to sign up for her podcast). She's a wonderful speaker who does a lot about manifesting, law of attraction, etc. I think you'd really like her :)

In the past, what hasn’t worked? Was it hour-long workouts six times a week when you hadn’t worked out in months (or years!)? Was it jumping into eating 100% clean instead of slowly easing into it? Was it being 100% perfect on your diet plan and not leaving any wiggle room? Was it second-guessing your ability to lose the weight, even though logically you know it’s just a matter of time and healthy habits? Was it believing you can’t lose weight at all? Really scan your brain for every factor that has held you back! Then, list a game plan on how you are going to make sure NONE of this gets in the way of making 2012 YOUR year of Vitality/losing weight, gaining confidence, and living with passion :)

Okay so I know this is very late but it's been a crazy week.
So what hasn't worked for me in the past, that would include things like not planning my meals ahead. I would have a basic idea of what I was going to eat but I wouldn't write it down. Also eating when I am not hungry. Sometimes it's from boredom or stress but sometimes it's just because there is something there that I really like. I would also plan on exercising x amount of times per week and I would do my dvds but I would not write down specifically what I was going to do. I have always been able to stick to my exercise but it typically isn't planned out. I also have a hard time finding time to relax. I was doing good for a while but it's been slowly going away. Lastly I have been trying to lose weight for quite a few years now and I blamed it on having a child and then I thought it was something medically wrong with me. Well it's been 10 years since I've had my daughter and I have been tested for a lot of stuff that could make a person not be able to lose weight and they were all negative results. So that is a problem for me because I see myself exercise every week 5 days a week and I thought I was eating healthy, especially since I am a vegetarian. This past week I have come to the realization that I seriously need to scrutinize everything I eat because I believe that is my issue. I know I eat plenty of fruits and veggies but it's everything in between.
So what is my game plan to stop my bad behaviors? My first one is for planning my meals. I have lots of things that come up unexpectedly that I end up having to do. Part of being a parent and volunteer. So not an excuse but a realization. With this in mind I will have a set menu that is laid out in food group format that will be my fall back menu. (So for example it will say Breakfast: 1 grain, 1 protein, 2 fruits or veggies.) My ultimate goal is to have a menu actually laid out with specifics for every week but my back up is for those moments that I can't and I will have a "blueprint" so to speak.
My second plan of action is for those moments that I eat when I am really not that hungry or something is just there. First I will ask myself Am I really hungry? And seriously walk away and think about it for a minute. Then if I am not sure I will have an 8oz. glass of water in case it's just thirst. Then if I am still hungry I will go ahead and eat something. If it is late at night the plan is to have preportioned pudding cups and cans of green beans. Both are for a sweet craving and just hunger. Also on my dashboard of my car I will have a piece of paper that will be a reminder of my question in case I feel like stopping somewhere. If I don't have water with me then to drink I will order an unsweetened ice tea. I will also try to journal what I eat even if it doesn't have how much. That way I will have knowledge of items I am ingesting.
As for the exercise issue of planning. I will have a laid out plan of what exercise I will be doing on what day and put it in my schedule for each day. I will do this this by Sunday afternoon for next week.
The last problem I listed was no time to relax. I am going to put my cd player back in my bedroom and play my relaxation cd before bed. On days when I can't do that or my husband is really annoyed with it my back up plan is to concentrate on deep breathing for 5 minutes when I go to bed.
Well looks like I have my work cut out for me this weekend with planning. I hope everyone is doing well with the challenge! We can do this!

Journal Prompt #2: In the past, what hasn’t worked? Really scan your brain for every factor that has held you back! Then, list a game plan on how you are going to make sure NONE of this gets in the way of making 2012 YOUR year of Vitality/losing weight, gaining confidence, and living with passion :)

In prior attempts to lose weight, I only focused on the act of losing weight, not bettering my mind. In recent weeks/months, I have learned that my mind is what is holding me back from reaching my goals - both fitness related and weight related. I have allowed fear, sadness, apprehension, anxiety, boredom, anger, depression and self-hatred control my decision and actioins. This time, I am taking control.

I am working on many different things this year from physical fitness to weight to mental health. All of my problems are in my head and I need to move them out or they'll continue to weigh me down and hold me back.

Weight loss: move into a clean eating lifestyle - joined the Eat Clean Diet Makeover Challenge.

Fitness: Push and push no matter what my head tells me. My body IS capable of doing what I want it to do but my brain tells it that it cannot and my body believes it. My brain is preventing forward movement and progress. Additionally, joined the Body for Life Challenge (Round 1) which starts in February.

Mental Health: I am using journaling, positive self-talk, and www.self-esteem-experts.com to help me improve my self-confidence, self-esteem and mental health. A lot of my mental health problems stem from low self-confidence in myself. I am fearful of starting, fearful of progressing, fearful of finishing, fearful of pushing, fearful of the future, fearful of the unknown, and fearful of what I'm actually capable of doing because I'm fearful of all those other things.

That's pretty much about it.

Journal Prompt #1: Why did you choose to participate in this challenge? At the end of these 15 days, what do you hope to accomplish? What do you want to feel like? What is going to tell you that you are headed in the right direction during this challenge? What is going to be different? What will make 2012 different than 2011?


I chose to participate in this challenge because I know goal setting works. I also know that sticking out your goals for a long enough period turns them into habits and habits (good habits) are a good thing to have. I need good healthy habits in my life.

I want to accomplish self-confidence. If I stick out a 15 day challenge (as well as the 28 day January Jumpstart Challenge) I will feel confident enough to know that I am working toward a better me. This is more than just weight loss to me. This is a whole Jenn Makeover that starts from my brain and travels to my toes. My brain is so chock full of crap and stress and anxiety that I am a very unhappy person. I'm tired of surviving and want to thrive! I want to live a happy life, not one riddled with stress and anxiety, filled with (Rx) pill popping and unhealthy eating to numb unhappiness. I'm done. I'm moving on. I'm fixing myself. I am in control now. Now some stupid apprehension, annoying aggravation, minor setback, negative comment, etc. I AM IN CONTROL of me and my destiny. This challenge is going to help me solidify that new mentality.

So I want to have some feedback from you guys. I'm developing a program that is four weeks long and want to ask your guys' opinion on what it should include.

So far, the schedule is as follows (begins in February):

Week one: "Creating Your 'Perfect' Diet & Exercise Plan"
Week two: "Creating Killer Confidence & Living With Passion By Changing Your Mindset"
Week three: "Creating Your Winning Team"
Week four: "Creating & Maintaining Momentum On Your Journey"

I am going to record the calls and make them available if people miss them/to have the information to review for their own records.

As a bonus, I am going to offer a Goal Setting Intention Session where you can call in and get feedback on your goals. In addition, to get ideas and feedback for your personal goals as we will be meeting in a group.

What do you guys think?

I also believe that I am going to run this program every month and as an extra incentive to follow through with the goals you set...if you participate in the 15 Day Challenge and complete it, you will be entered to win a spot in the 4-Week Group. I figured it's a good way to get you guys started after the 15 Day Vitality Challenge if you want to take the next step in reaching your goals. I will be redoing the 15 Day Vitality Challenge every month, but the journal prompts will only change every other challenge. :)

I'm kinda stuck right now. I somehow twisted my L5 vertebrae and my chiropractor said that I can't hit the gym yet. He knows I'm eager to get going. I see him again tomorrow and it maybe just the treadmill, which I hate. However, I know that I can't physically do anything else right. It's hard getting up and down when sitting and such. So frustrating to happen at the beginning of the year. Sad part is, I think I injured myself cleaning the kitchen. Learned my lesson: let it be dirty! Haha.

Hope everyone is doing well! Let's do this!

FAITH: intentional prayer: I "pray" but want to be more intentional and might dig out my old prayer journal.
FOOD: plan menus at least a week at a time for my family, with balanced nutrition at the front of my mind as I do so.
FITNESS: get back into a daily HABIT--not "if" I will work out, because I just "will"!! Work up to 1000 minutes monthly. Might get my pedometer back out, it helped before!

I had to take some time to decide on my goals but they are as follows:

Nutrition - Track everyday, follow the daily plan that is in The Daily Vegan Planner by Jolinda Hackett.

Fitness - Get to the gym 6 days out of 7, and get to the rink at least 2 times a week.

Self - Love - Meditate everyday, and pick a daily affirmation from my affirmation cards when I wake up every morning.

Here are my 3 goals:

Fitness: Alternate days of elliptical and circuit traing dvds (The Firm and Kathy Smith Project You)
Also a 5 min ab workout in the morning.

Nutrtion: Making sure I get a fruit or veggie at every meal and snack.

Self Love: Continuing with my affirmation tape every day for at least 30 minutes. Mainly while getting ready for work or doing chores. I will also take 5 deep breaths to let go of the day when I am going to bed.

I forgot to add my 3 Goals:

Nutritional:
Select healthier foods, and count calories all day and Drink more water!

Fitness:
Go to the gym at least 3-4 days...and get in the pool!! Go to Saturday Aqua Aerobics with out fail.

Self Love:
Give myself credit for keeping the positive attitude. Take at least 10-15mins..to talk with GOD every night in bed.

Happy New Year everyone!

Sorry I haven’t been able to respond earlier Lauren, I had family in town and it was difficult to get time to sit at my computer. This year I have secured a table at a tradeshow for May and it’s the biggest one I have done so far (I believe they get an average of 3000 people a day), and I am hoping to promote up in work by the end of June (aiming for end of April) which means there is a chance I will be on stage at conference in August.

I am looking forward to the next 15 days. My journal entry should be up by the end of the day.

Hi! I'm Angie, loving life here in Montana. I'm excited to be part of this challenge. I'm also doing the January JumpStart as I credit the Spring Bootcamp of 2011 as a HUGE motivator in my current activity level. I'm just starting physical therapy to get back to my fighting weight - lol! - and running. This vitality challenge will help me remember that pt is just as important as cardio. Right? Right!
