I have also found that precise consistency is key for me also. I get up at 5:30 every day to take it. So on weekends, I just set the alarm and go right back to bed-but I make sure to use a pill box so I don't over or under dose on the levo and cytomel half asleep! I also keep a half-full water bottle next to the pill box, so all I have to do is make sure its all gone! I had to really set it all up, since I am a zombie straight out of bed!

Only thing I can add, is that if you take your meds at nite, you absolutely must take them with a FULL 8 oz glass of water. Reason being that if you don't drink enuf water they will stay in your stomach until morning, when you have eaten and drank.
Your thyroid hormone pill can't be absorbed thru your stomach wall... in fact, only three things I know are, alcohol, caffiend and aspirin.... o yeah and to a small degree water.
The jejenum, aka the middle intestine, is the part of your gut where the majority of your thyroid replacement is absorbed. So you've gotta give it the gas (water) to drive down there or it will be stuck in Stomachville.
Most of us experiment to find out what works with our schedule. Its a riddle that everyone needs to work out for themselves keeping all the caveats in mind.

Never underestimate the value of getting out of your own way.
Since I am one of those people who like a late night snack and need to eat breakfast almost right away upon waking. And through out the day I take medications (birth control pills, ect.) and supplements (calcium and iron) that can interfere with me absorbing my synthroid. I take mine in the middle of the night, when I wake to use the bathroom. That way I don't need to worry about it! I did the whole in the morning thing and the right before bed and for me the middle of the night works best. My numbers are the best they have ever been and I feel alot better to. So tinker around and see what works best for you! We all are different. Just remember to wait at least an hour to eat no matter what time you take it and to take it several hours apart from antacids, calcium, iron or birth control.
